Abstract

Teaching English for the non-English Department has a huge challenge. Most of the students are in low motivation to learn a foreign language including English because they are more interested in their main subject than the supported subject. They assumed that English is difficult and complicated so that they have a low desire to learn the subject. It affects their competences and performances, therefore another creative method is crucial to be implemented in the classroom. One of the solutions is creating a fun learning of English final project. This research aims to identify whether drama can build their motivation and interest to speak and learn English. Drama can be performed by the students in groups and create stories based on their creativity. The research method used is qualitative by interviewing some of the students and the quantitative research methods by distributing a questionnaire. The research results show that most of the students stated that learning English through drama has a positive effect on their motivation, it is more than 45% of the students agree that drama encourages them to learn English. It is expected that drama can be implemented in the classroom to enhance students’ motivation in the first semester of the year.

Abstract

The research examined the relationship between cultural ritual, linguistic, and ecology in the context of ecotourism. It aimed to encourage, stimulate, and integrate the use of religious tradition’s terms in understanding and reinterpreting the environment and human relations and its roles. Cultural forms and elements basically had the potential to be used as a tourism commodity, meaning that they could be commodified. The research also related to ecolinguistics, a study that discussed language associated with the environment in which the language grew and developed and how it was used by the community. Cultural rituals as a tourism commodity could be a means of maintaining culture and language even though they were commodified for tourism purposes. Thus, the religious-cultural structure of Rebo Buntung and Tetulaq Tamperan should be packaged following its original structure as a medium for cultural and language preservation but also packaged as attractively as possible with a contextual structure that adapted to tourism sites so that could attract tourists. This ecospiritual commodification was expected to be able to budge the economy of the surrounding community. The research was conducted at Ketapang Beach, Tanjung Menangis, Pringgabaya district, and East Lombok where Rebo Buntung ritual was carried out. The research applied a qualitative descriptive method. For this reason, the data obtained were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis by describing the data obtained from an informant. On that basis, it can be concluded that the practice of ecospriritual commodification can have multiple effects, not only to preserve culture and language but also to maintain community harmony with nature, as well as improve the economy of the local community.

Abstract

The regulation and policy in the teaching and learning process are changing during this pandemic (Covid-19). The face-to-face learning process is altered by online learning. This evolution faces numerous obstacles throughout the world including in Indonesia. Information Communication and Technologies (ICTs) have a pivotal role in supporting materials and media for tutors or teachers in learning English because teachers can provide videos, music, and any other materials in e-learning that can be accessed everywhere and anytime by pupils. Collaborative learning could boost students’ motivation to learn English so that learning can be more interesting, easier, and interactive. The aims of this research are to identify students’ attitudes towards collaborative learning with ICTs through e-learning and to compare women's and men’s attitudes towards collaborative learning with ICTs through online learning. This research is mixed research namely quantitative research with a 5-point Likert scale using a questionnaire and qualitative by interviewing the students. The research results show that most of the students agree that collaborative learning through ICTs has a positive impact on learners’ attitudes during the pandemic. Then, females have a higher percentage than males in most of the items; however, males have much more interest in using the internet for their daily life. It is expected that government should provide some training to students not only on how to use the technology but also how to utilize the technology to gain appropriate materials; then blended learning would be much better to strengthen good communication and interaction between students and educators.

Abstract

In this research, the researchers convince the readers about factors that affecting the effectiveness of Inter-dialectical accommodation among sellers-buyers. In this research, they prove how the theory of Giles cannot cover the discourse among sellers and buyers in terms of accommodation,   which is done in Central Lombok Nusa Tenggara Barat Province. The researchers describe the phenomenon of the inter-dialectical accommodation in the dialect of Meno-mene versus Meriak-meriku. The object of this research is the activities of sellers-buyers in doing the transaction in the market. The data in this research is taken through observation, recording, interview and note taking of the accommodation among sellers and buyers discourse in some markets in Praya Barat, Praya and Jonggat Sub-district. The researchers use the interpretative qualitative method with some data to reflect the condition of sellers versus buyers discourse in the market. The researchers find the preliminary data shows that the Giles Convergence Theory is un-effective or not applicable in the market where sellers and buyers of Meno-mene versus Meriak-meriku assemble and do a transaction. However, the research result shows the un-effectiveness or there is no effect of converging in bargaining. This research reveals that the convergence theory by Giles cannot be generalized into all part of the discourse, especially in the dialect of Meno-mene versus Meriak-meriku.
