Abstract

The program “Financial Education: The Importance of Saving from an Early Age in Lilin Hamlet” was implemented as a community engagement initiative aimed at fostering financial awareness and saving habits among children and adolescents in rural areas. Using a participatory-educational approach, the program consisted of four stages: planning, socialization, saving practice, and evaluation. A total of 27 participants, ranging from elementary to high school students, took part in the activities held at the Pasraman Kilat community learning center. The sessions were designed to be interactive through discussions, visual media, and hands-on saving activities using simple piggy banks. The results indicated a notable improvement in financial understanding and behavior, with 48.15% of participants saving regularly during the program. The amount saved ranged between IDR 17,000 and IDR 28,000. The program not only enhanced financial literacy but also cultivated responsibility and self-discipline among participants. A participatory learning environment was found to be a key factor in sustaining engagement and behavioral change. These findings suggest that practice-based financial education embedded in local cultural values can serve as an effective strategy to instill early saving habits and strengthen financial literacy within rural communities.

Abstract

Social media has become one of the main instruments in modern tourism communication. The phenomenon of virality creates new opportunities for destinations to gain rapid and widespread recognition, including on Lombok Island. However, behind these opportunities lie challenges such as unbalanced promotion, inadequate infrastructure, and the degradation of local cultural values. This article examines the issue of social media virality within the context of tourism communication in Lombok using a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature review and online media observation. The analysis shows that virality can strengthen destination images based on nature and culture, but it also poses risks of overexposure, value distortion, and dependence on short-term popularity. Therefore, the communication strategy for Lombok’s tourism should be directed toward ethical, participatory, and sustainable digital narratives.

Abstract

The development of the creative economy through training on converting used cooking oil waste into aromatherapy candles was conducted in Dusun Lilin, Giri Tembesi Village, from June 25 to August 9, 2025. This community service program was designed to enhance the ability of youth aged 12-22 to manage waste into economically valuable products through a training-based approach. The methods applied included observation, lectures, and hands-on practice involving 22 participants. The training program consisted of four main stages: 1) introduction to the program and the concept of the creative economy; 2) delivery of material regarding used cooking oil waste; 3) training in aromatherapy candle production; and 4) techniques for product packaging and marketing. Evaluation was conducted through direct observation of participants’ practical skills and interactive discussions to assess their understanding of the material and entrepreneurial interest. The results indicated that 85% of participants were able to understand the candle production process, 80% mastered basic packaging concepts, and 70% expressed interest in developing their own business. The products produced were four lavender-scented aromatherapy candles with a burning time of 4-6 hours and a long-lasting fragrance. From an economic analysis perspective, the potential profit reached IDR 45,000 from an investment of IDR 35,000 for four candles. The program proved effective in raising environmental awareness, fostering entrepreneurial spirit, and strengthening the creative economic skills of rural youth, while also offering an alternative solution for sustainable waste management.
