Abstract

A learning trajectory as a sequence of mathematical activities that could facilitate the growth of students’ understanding of learning goals. This research aimed to produce an instructional sequence to learn the concepts of translation and reflection and to investigate how students develop their understanding informally using a South Sumatra dance context. The research employed the design research method, which consisted of three stages: preliminary design, design experiment (pilot experiment and teaching experiment), and retrospective analysis. This research involved six students who have the high, medium, low capability at the first cycle and 32 students ninth graders at the second cycle at Junior High School 1 Palembang. Data from observations, tests, interviews, and documentation were analyzed descriptively. The tests used were aimed to determine the improvement made by the students; while the classroom observations, interviews, and documentations were used to develop the local instructional theory. This study produced a learning trajectory with three activities include: the students watched a dance video to describe the dancer’s’ positions in relation to floor tiles; the students were asked to determine the starting points of the dancers in Cartesian coordinates to learn concepts; and the students developed a formal concept based on their own knowledge.

Abstract

The background of the research is that skills are needed in accordance with the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, especially in the 21st century, namely critical thinking skills. For this reason, research is needed to determine the description of critical thinking skills. This research is a preliminary study that aims to describe the ability of critical thinking skills in learning science physics. Descriptive research method using google form. The research subjects were 33 students of SMP Negeri 59 Palembang. The results obtained are 25% of students are able to focus questions, 30% analyze questions, 32% consider reliable sources or not, 17% observe, consider observation reports, 39% do and consider deduction results, 38% do and consider induction results, 42% make and determine the value of judgment, 25% define, consider definitions, 21% identify assumptions, 44% determine actions, and 54% interact with others. The description of the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in the 4.0 industrial revolution era Physics science material is still in the low category, judging by the percentage of student responses. Suggestions for further research on efforts that can overcome the low critical thinking skills of junior high school students on Physics Science material.

Abstract

This research is aimed to design learning environment in which teacher can create a learning process in develop their reflective practices. Gending Sriwijaya traditional dance, which is familiar with culture in South Sumatera Indonesia, can be as a starting point for context in geometry translation. Applying The Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Learning Approach (PMRI) is one approach that uses contextual. The research used design research consisting of preparation of the experiment, design experiment and retrospective analysis. This research data were collected through classroom observation, documentation, interview, and field notes. The result of this research tries to establish that reflective teaching practice is a tool to makes room for teachers to critically examine any assumptions regarding acceptable objectives, methods, problems and solutions. By reflecting, conducting analysis, and coming to conclusions about what has occurred, the teacher might indirectly learn about the benefits and drawbacks of applying what they have learned. Collaborative learning supports and enhances learning by engaging groups which work together to solve problems, complete tasks, or learn new concepts. Students who have more ability help less-able students. On the other hand, less-able students ask for help from more-able students. DOI: https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.17.1.17208.69-88

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to produce a valid, practical, and having potential effects PISA-like mathematics problems using taekwondo context in Asian Games. The subjects were MIA 3 student of SMA 10 Palembang. This study was design research of development study in which had two stages: the preliminary and formative evaluation. The formative evaluation includes self-evaluation, one-to-one and expert review, small group, and field test. The context is used to have the students estimate maximum numbers of exercising athletes in a hall with a specific size. The result of the analysis shows that the problems which were reviewed by three expert reviews are valid qualitatively based on the PISA framework; it is also practical and easy to understand the problem. Based on the analysis of students’ answer, the developed problems display potential effects on student’s diverse basic mathematical abilities on the various process of answering the problems. The basic mathematics abilities emerging among which are reasoning and argument ability. It appears that students can develop and solve the problem by modeling using their assumptions. Also, the other ability is designing strategies to solve problems in which students use various procedures in solving problems leading the conclusion.

Abstract

Plastic waste remains a serious challenge in urban areas, including in 26 Ilir Sub-district, Palembang City, with significant impacts on both the environment and public health. Innovative efforts are therefore required to reduce waste volume while simultaneously providing economic benefits for residents. This community service program aimed to provide education and skills to the local community through socialization and hands-on practice in producing paving blocks from plastic waste using simple steel molds. The program was implemented in several stages: preparation, socialization, demonstration and practice, mentoring, and evaluation with feedback. The results showed high community participation with cross-generational involvement. Public understanding of the impacts of plastic waste increased significantly, from 52% before the program to 87% after. Participants were also able to independently practice paving block production, including the fabrication of simple steel molds. The paving blocks produced were dense and suitable for use in neighborhood roads. Community feedback indicated that 72% of participants were interested in continuing the program and forming small business groups focused on plastic recycling. Thus, the program successfully enhanced awareness, knowledge, and practical skills in plastic waste management. Beyond improving environmental cleanliness, it also opened new entrepreneurial opportunities that support the concept of a circular economy at the community level.
