Abstract

ABSTRACT Communication problems that frequently occur in the workplace can be addressed through mindfulness, particularly mindfulness in communication, which refers to an individual’s ability to be fully present, open, and to respond calmly during the communication process. One aspect of workplace behavior related to mindfulness in communication is voice behavior, defined as employees’ tendency to express ideas or suggestions aimed at encouraging organizational improvement or change. This study aimed to examine whether there is a relationship between mindfulness in communication and voice behavior among employees in the Food & Beverage (F&B) industry in Jakarta. This study employed a non-experimental quantitative approach using purposive sampling as the data collection technique. The instruments used were the Mindfulness in Communication Scale and the Voice Behavior Scale. A total of 246 participants were involved, consisting of employees who were currently or had previously worked as operational employees in the F&B industry in Jakarta, worked in team-based F&B companies rather than individual enterprises, and had a minimum of six months of work experience. The results of the analysis indicated that mindfulness in communication had a positive correlation with voice behavior. These results suggest that higher levels of mindfulness in communication are associated with higher levels of voice behavior among operational employees in the F&B industry in Jakarta. Based on these findings, organizations may develop programs focused on enhancing mindfulness in communication and voice behavior to support better communication and increase employee contributions within the organization. Abstract

Self-efficacy is an individual's belief in their ability to organize and carry out the actions necessary to achieve a goal or deal with a particular situation. This study aims to determine the effect of the 2025 West Jakarta Abang None quarantine program on increasing the self-efficacy of the finalists. The study used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group, involving 30 participants (15 Abang and 15 None). The measurement instrument was the General Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995). Data analysis was performed using a paired-samples t-test. After analysis, the results were found to be (t(29) = -1.53, p = 0.138; Cohen's d = 0.28), meaning that there was no effect of the quarantine program on the self-efficacy of the 2025 West Jakarta Abang None finalists.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the differential effects of classical background music (Mozart K.448) and lo-fi music on middle school students’ mathematics task performance. Method: A quasi-experimental design with repeated measures was employed involving 66 middle school students aged 12–15 years. Each participant completed a set of 20 standardized mathematics problems under three experimental conditions: silence (no music), classical background music (Mozart K.448), and lo-fi background music. The interventions were administered across separate sessions with a fixed time limit of 30 minutes per condition. Mathematics performance was assessed based on accuracy scores. Data analysis was conducted using repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Bonferroni post-hoc comparisons, while effect sizes were calculated to evaluate the magnitude of the observed differences. Findings: The results revealed a statistically significant difference in mathematics performance across the three conditions (F(2,122) = 8.459, p < .05). Classical background music produced the highest mean scores and was significantly more effective than the silence condition. In contrast, lo-fi music showed a modest increase in performance; however, this difference was not statistically significant. The effect size (partial η² = 0.122) indicates a moderate-to-large influence of background music on mathematical task performance. Significance: These findings suggest that background music does not exert uniform cognitive effects in academic contexts. Classical music, particularly Mozart K.448, appears to enhance cognitive focus and performance in mathematics tasks, whereas lo-fi music demonstrates limited cognitive benefit. The study provides empirical support for the selective use of auditory environments to optimize mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

Toxic masculinity is a rigid form of masculinity that can be harmful to both men and their environment. Toxic masculinity manifests as the expectation to always be strong, dominant, and never show weakness. This study aims to examine the characteristics of toxic masculinity among male college students. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach, and the participants consisted of 280 active male college students from various universities in Indonesia, selected using non-probability sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted online using the Toxic Masculinity Scale-28 (TMS-28), which consists of four dimensions. The results indicate that toxic masculinity among male college students generally falls into the moderate category. Based on the dimensions, emotional restraint had the highest mean score, followed by masculine superiority. These findings suggest that the strongest aspect of toxic masculinity among male college students is related to the tendency to restrict or suppress certain emotional expressions. The results of this study are expected to serve as a foundation for the development of psychoeducational programs on healthy masculinity and emotional openness among male college students.

Abstract

Final-year university students face various academic demands that require them to make appropriate decisions. Self-regulation is considered an important factor associated with individuals’ tendencies to adopt particular decision-making styles. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-regulation and the five decision-making styles among final-year university students. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was employed. A total of 160 final-year university students were recruited using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Short Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SSRQ) to measure self-regulation and the General Decision Making Styles (GDMS) questionnaire to assess the five decision-making styles. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rank-order correlation. The results indicated that self-regulation was positively and significantly correlated with the rational (r = .556, p < .001) and intuitive (r = .398, p < .001) decision-making styles. In contrast, self-regulation was negatively and significantly correlated with the dependent (r = −.356, p < .001), avoidant (r = −.582, p < .001), and spontaneous (r = −.465, p < .001) decision-making styles. These findings suggest that higher levels of self-regulation are associated with greater tendencies to adopt rational and intuitive decision-making styles, and lower tendencies to adopt dependent, avoidant, and spontaneous decision-making styles. Therefore, self-regulation appears to be an important factor associated with decision-making style tendencies among final-year university students.
