Abstract

Wages for workers in the informal sector are generally lower than those in the formal sector, and the gender wage gap exacerbates this condition. This quantitative study analyzes the gender wage gap in Indonesia’s informal sector using variables such as education, work experience, training, region of residence, marital status, and gender as a moderating factor. Data from the 2020 National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) were analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, robust regression, and the Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition. The results show that all variables have a significant effect on wages, while the Blinder–Oaxaca analysis reveals that the gap primarily stems from unexplained factors, which reflect gender discrimination. This study emphasizes the need for policies to improve access to education, training, and protection for female workers to reduce the gender wage gap in the informal sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the efficiency of government social spending in the education, health, and economic sectors and its impact on human development in Indonesia by employing the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method and Tobit regression to examine the influence of external factors on efficiency. The findings reveal that the efficiency of government social spending varies across provinces, with most provinces recording high efficiency in the education and health sectors, while the economic sector still faces efficiency challenges. Population growth rate and land area were found to have a negative effect on efficiency, as rapid population growth and large territorial size create obstacles in resource allocation and distribution. Conversely, foreign direct investment (FDI) has a positive and significant effect on efficiency in all sectors.

Abstract

Commuter and circular labor mobility emerged as a labor adjustment measure in response to the weak economic base in the area of residence in the employment of all residents, in the wage differentials and in the spatial distribution of economic activities. This research aims to see the influence of commuter and circular workforce mobility in West Sumatra Province. This research employs multinomial logistic regression analysis by using data from SAKERNAS 2020. The results of this study indicate that the employment sector, gender and income level have a significant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Marital status has an insignificant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Age has an insignificant influence on the mobility of commuter labor and a positive and significant influence on the mobility of circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Education level has a positive and significant influence on the mobility of commuter labor and a negative and insignificant influence on the mobility of circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Area of residence has a negative and significant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze how renewable energy and technology adoption affect air quality in developing countries in Southeast Asia. This study uses secondary data sourced from the World Bank from 2000-2021 with research variables grouped into three parts: the dependent variable which in this study is defined as air quality, and the independent variables are renewable energy and technology adoption, and the control variables used in this study are economic openness, manufacturing sector, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), forest area and energy intensity. This study uses panel data regression analysis with a cross section of 5 developing countries in Southeast Asia and a time series from 2000-2021. The results of the study indicate that renewable energy and technological adoption have a negative effect on air quality as measured by carbon dioxide (CO2) emission levels, thus providing an opportunity to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emission levels in these countries.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of gender inequality in education participation, labor force participation rate, and health on economic growth. This study uses macro data from the World Bank. This study analyzes 12 developing countries in Asia from 2005 to 2020. The method used is panel data regression with Fixed Effect Model. The results showed that gender inequality in secondary education participation and higher education participation had a significant negative effect on economic growth. Health has a significant positive effect, while labor force participation has an insignificant negative effect. These findings highlight the importance of creating gender equality to improve economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to examine three main things: (1) the influence of customer characteristics on the increase in MSME turnover, (2) the impact of business characteristics on the growth of MSME turnover, and (3) the extent to which credit characteristics affect the increase in MSME turnover. The data used is cross section and was obtained from PT Pegadaian Terandam Branch in 2023. The analysis method applied in this study is logistic regression. The findings show that two factors of customer characteristics, namely gender and education level, have a significant effect on increasing the turnover of MSMEs in the branch. On the other hand, the variables of age, type of business, ownership of the business premises, length of business operation, and loan amount did not show a significant influence. These findings underscore the importance of increasing the capacity of MSME actors through education, both formal and non-formal, to support business management skills and encourage turnover growth.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of human capital, financial capital, economic structure, and regional dummy variables on the poverty level of island regions in Indonesia. The analysis method used in this research is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that all independent variables collectively have a significant impact on the poverty level as the dependent variable. Partially, human capital has a negative and significant impact on the reduction of poverty levels, financial capital has a negative and significant impact on the reduction of poverty levels, while the economic structure has a positive but not significant impact on the reduction of poverty levels. Human capital interacted with the area dummy has a negative and significant effect at the 10% level on the reduction of poverty levels, financial capital interacted with the area dummy has a negative but not significant impact on the reduction of poverty levels, the economic structure interacted with the area dummy has a negative but not significant impact on the reduction of poverty levels, and the area dummy has a positive and significant impact at the 10% level indicating a difference between island regions and non-island regions.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of good governance on poverty levels in developing countries. Good governance is measured using five World Bank indicators: Control of Corruption, Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism, and Voice and Accountability. The analysis employs panel data regression from 16 developing countries over the period 2008–2022, using a quantitative approach through the Random Effect Model (REM). The findings indicate that both individually and jointly, good governance indicators have a significant effect on poverty. Control variables, namely Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR), also play an important role. These results highlight that improving governance quality through transparency, policy effectiveness, and public participation is a strategic effort to sustainably alleviate poverty in developing countries.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) empowerment programs on beneficiaries’ welfare, financial inclusion, social participation, and spirituality. Using questionnaires administered to the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of the empowerment programs in Central Lampung, South Tangerang, Trenggalek East Java, and Bima Nusa Tenggara Indonesia, the study constructs three impact indicators: the welfare index, financial inclusion index, and social and spiritual index. The data are analyzed using the difference-in-difference (DiD) method, where the three impact indices are compared between the two groups of respondents in 2021 and 2022. We find that the CWLS empowerment programs improve the welfare and financial inclusion of beneficiaries but have no discernible effect on social and spiritual participation. However, the DID analysis reveals that the overall impacts of welfare, financial inclusion, and social and spiritual participation are not statistically different between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries in 2021 and 2022. This study provides significant implications for policymakers and nadzir to enhance the impacts of CWLS on socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation.
