Abstract

The convergence of traditional media with metaverse technology has revolutionized interactive broadcasting by blending immersive experiences with real-time interactivity. This study explores the integration of media convergence and metaverse-driven platforms, highlighting their transformative impact on audience engagement, technological innovations, and the challenges related to infrastructure, cost, and ethical considerations. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative research. A comprehensive literature review established the theoretical foundation, while case studies of metaverse-enabled events, such as virtual concerts and immersive news reports, provided real-world insights. Semi-structured interviews with industry professionals offered expert perspectives on adoption barriers and strategies. Quantitative metrics, including audience retention rates and interaction times, were analyzed alongside industry reports to validate findings. The findings reveal a significant increase in audience engagement, with metaverse-driven platforms achieving 150% longer interaction times and a 20% higher retention rate than traditional formats. Technological enablers, such as VR, AR, Blockchain, and AI, were identified as key drivers of this transformation, facilitating immersive storytelling, secure digital transactions, and personalized content delivery. However, challenges persist, including high infrastructure costs, regional disparities in technological access, and ethical concerns over data privacy and intellectual property disputes. Metaverse broadcasting redefines audience interaction by enabling users to participate actively in content creation and exploration.

Abstract

The 2024 Mandailing Natal Regency Election has become a political contest that has captured the attention of various local online media outlets. Media play a crucial role in shaping public perception through news framing, which can influence the political preferences of the community. This study employs a qualitative method with a framing analysis approach. Data were collected from nine news articles from each online media outlet published during the campaign period up to post-election. The analysis was conducted by identifying the framing elements according to Entman, namely problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. The findings indicate that the three media outlets frame the coverage of the Sahata and On Ma candidate pairs differently. MohgaNews.co.id frames Sahata positively as an experienced pair close to the community, focusing on social stability. StartNews.co.id emphasizes the importance of election security and harmony, presenting the candidates neutrally. Meanwhile, MadinaPos.com prioritizes the aspects of legality and legal certainty in its reporting, with significant attention to the candidates’ administrative compliance. The differing frames across the three media reflect their respective agendas in influencing public perception. MohgaNews.co.id tends to support the incumbents, StartNews.co.id highlights security as a key issue, while MadinaPos.com emphasizes a fair and lawful electoral process. These findings demonstrate that media have a significant influence in shaping local political narratives, which can impact election outcomes and public participation.

Abstract

Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is a psychological phenomenon that has been widely adopted in flash sale business models to create a sense of urgency and social pressure. While this strategy can be effective in increasing sales, it also raises ethical concerns regarding consumer manipulation. This study examines whether FOMO-based flash sales serve as a legitimate marketing strategy or a psychological exploitation tool. A qualitative research approach was used, employing semi-structured interviews with consumers who frequently participate in flash sales, as well as expert interviews with digital marketing professionals. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify key patterns related to consumer behavior, emotional responses, and ethical considerations. Findings reveal that FOMO-driven flash sales increase impulse buying but also contribute to buyer’s remorse and anxiety. Consumers often experience psychological pressure due to scarcity cues, leading to purchasing decisions based on perceived urgency rather than necessity. Additionally, the study highlights a thin line between marketing strategy and consumer manipulation, particularly in cases where artificial scarcity or misleading promotions are used. The discussion emphasizes that while FOMO-based flash sales are highly effective in short-term revenue generation, they may harm long-term consumer trust if perceived as deceptive. Ethical concerns regarding stress-inducing marketing tactics call for greater transparency in digital marketing. Future research should explore quantitative measures of consumer spending behavior and cross-cultural perspectives on FOMO marketing.

Abstract

Digital culture has given rise to various new social phenomena that significantly influence the behavior of younger generations, such as flexing, promiscuity, and narcissism. These phenomena pose a serious challenge to Islamic preaching (dakwah), which aims to uphold moral and spiritual values amid the overwhelming current of popular culture. This study aims to analyze how religious messages are designed and framed in response to these three phenomena on social media platforms. This research employs a qualitative approach using Robert Entman's framing analysis model. The data were collected from a selection of popular digital da’wah content on YouTube and TikTok. In addition, narrative and discourse analyses were conducted to examine the message structure, rhetorical approaches, and communication styles of the preachers. The findings reveal two dominant patterns of da’wah framing: a normative-repressive pattern and a reflective-humanist pattern. The reflective-humanist framing proved to be more positively received by digital audiences as it emphasizes empathy, dialogue, and a non-judgmental psycho-spiritual approach. However, there is also a notable tendency toward the commodification of digital da’wah, which can obscure the true essence of Islamic preaching. Communicative and contextual da’wah framing is an urgent necessity in the digital era. Da’wah must be able to transform into a medium of dialogue and spiritual healing rather than merely a pulpit for condemnation. Nevertheless, ethical challenges and framing ambiguities arise when preachers prioritize popularity over substantive religious values.

Abstract

This study investigates how toxic romantic relationships are represented in TikTok videos and how these representations influence the evolving cultural meanings of love among young users. In the context of digital popular culture, TikTok has emerged as a key site for emotional storytelling and identity performance. Using a qualitative approach and Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this study analyzed 50 viral TikTok videos and over 1,000 associated comments. Data were selected based on relational themes involving emotional manipulation, dependency, and conflict. The findings identify three dominant themes, (1) the romanticization of toxic behaviors, (2) the ironic or humorous reframing of emotional abuse, and (3) audience identification and normalization of harmful relationship dynamics. Users often interpret such content as relatable, aesthetic, or emotionally resonant. The study argues that TikTok functions not merely as a space of representation but as an emotional and cultural educator where toxic love is reframed and normalized. While some content invites critique, most contributes to shifting emotional norms. The research highlights the implications of these narratives on digital intimacy and the emotional expectations of youth.

Abstract

Diversity often triggers multicultural tensions. Conflict resolution frameworks appropriate to the Indonesian context are still rarely studied. This study offers a strategic framework consisting of three steps: increasing cultural awareness and sensitivity, facilitating inclusive dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving. Using a mixed-method approach, this study combines 25 semi-structured interviews with community leaders, mediators, and stakeholders in five conflict-prone provinces, as well as a survey of 312 respondents. The findings show that increasing cultural awareness strengthens mutual respect and reduces stereotypes; inclusive dialogue is effective in bridging social differences; and collaborative problem solving combines traditional approaches (consensus-based deliberation) with modern governance. However, there are still communication gaps between generations and a lack of follow-up mechanisms.
