Abstract

The digital era has made photography an essential skill, especially with the advancement of smartphone technology, enabling users to produce high-quality photos. However, many students have yet to understand how to optimally utilize camera features. This program aims to enhance the creativity of STAIN Madina students through smartphone photography training. This community service activity employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving students in all stages of the activity: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The training was conducted over three days, covering basic photography theory, field practice, and digital portfolio development. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests, post-tests, and an exhibition of participants' works. The training successfully improved the students' photography skills. A total of 85% of participants demonstrated improved photography outcomes after the training. Additionally, participants were able to create digital portfolios to showcase their works. Satisfaction surveys revealed that 90% of participants found the training beneficial for developing their creative and professional skills. The results indicate that the PAR approach is effective in increasing participant engagement, which positively impacts their skills and creativity. The training not only provided technical benefits but also opened new opportunities for students to utilize photography as a medium of expression and a potential career path.

Abstract

The rise of digital philanthropy has transformed the way individuals engage with charitable giving, particularly on social media platforms such as TikTok. Understanding the behavioral economic factors that influence online donation behavior is crucial for optimizing fundraising strategies. This study employs a qualitative research design, incorporating in-depth interviews and content analysis of donation-related campaigns on TikTok. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify key behavioral economic drivers influencing donation decisions. The findings reveal that emotional heuristics, social proof, reciprocity, and frictionless giving significantly impact donation behavior on TikTok. The role of influencers, algorithmic exposure, and real-time donation tracking fosters a community-driven donation culture that encourages both impulse and sustained giving. The discussion highlights how choice architecture and platform design facilitate seamless donation experiences. Social influence mechanisms, such as herd behavior and bandwagon effects, further enhance donation participation. The study suggests that digital fundraising efforts should leverage emotionally engaging content, influencer endorsements, and simplified payment processes to maximize effectiveness. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital philanthropy by identifying the behavioral economic principles underlying online donations on TikTok. While offering strategic insights for fundraisers, the research acknowledges limitations related to sample demographics and qualitative scope, recommending future studies to explore quantitative metrics, cross-platform donation behaviors, and longitudinal engagement trends. Abstract

This study analyzes how online media represent and construct meanings around the program using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. Employing a qualitative method, the study applies Fairclough's three-dimensional framework of discourse analysis: textual analysis, discursive practice, and social practice. Ten online news articles from various editorial backgrounds, published between April and May 2025, were analyzed using NVivo software. These articles were sourced from DetikSulsel, TribunKaltim, Tirto, Tempo, Republika, MetroTV News, CNBC Indonesia, RRI Cirebon, ANTARA News, and Kompas.com. The findings reveal that cooperative discourse in the media is predominantly shaped by top-down development narratives with strong symbolic reinforcement from the state. However, ambivalence and media resistance also appear in relation to the potential for policy mismanagement. The choice of diction such as “rural economic legacy,” “distribution monopoly,” and “economic holding” reflects ideological contestation between state interests and civil society concerns. The production of discourse is largely dominated by quotations from state actors, while at the social practice level, the program is closely tied to post-election political agendas and national economic transformation strategies. The discussion shows that media outlets do not merely transmit information but actively shape the structure of meaning and public perception of rural development directions. The prevalence of hegemonic narratives favoring official sources poses a challenge to information democratization, although some media platforms like Tirto and TribunKaltim have voiced critiques and expressed caution regarding potential governance issues within the cooperative system. This study concludes that media representation of the Kopdes Merah Putih program is far from neutral, and instead, it is infused with ideological dynamics and power structures inherent in the discourse of development.

Abstract

Islamic media platforms such as Salam TV have reshaped religious broadcasting, influencing both public discourse and spiritual identity. However, research has largely emphasized audience impact, with little attention given to how editorial and institutional processes shape da’wah content, particularly in campus-based platforms. This study adopts a qualitative case study approach to explore agenda-setting within Salam TV’s da’wah programming. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and focus group discussions involving 140 informants, including broadcasting managers, content producers, Islamic scholars, and viewers. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns in editorial decision-making and institutional influence. Findings reveal that Salam TV’s editorial priorities are strongly shaped by theological imperatives rooted in the Salafi tradition. Programming themes consistently emphasize ‘aqīdah, akhlāq, and Islamic jurisprudence, supported by structured mechanisms for selecting themes, developing scripts, and conducting theological reviews. While audiences value the program’s theological precision, younger viewers tend to prefer more inclusive language and contemporary framing. The study highlights the tension between theological rigor and communicative adaptability in campus-based Islamic media. To remain relevant and credible across diverse audiences, Islamic broadcasters must integrate theological accuracy with responsive communication strategies.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between markobar and Islamic communication, particularly to unveil the elements of Islamic proselytizing (da’wah) within markobar tradition. The method employed in this study was a qualitative approach. Data was collected through literature review, observations, and interviews with key informants. The observation was conducted at funeral ceremonies and traditional Mandailing weddings. The collected data from the field and documents was analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings illustrate that there are Islamic communication styles embedded within markobar tradition, namely qaulan sadida, qaulan baligha, qulan ma'rufa, qaulan karima, qaulan layyinan, and qaulan maysura. Additionally, this Mandailing culture is also considered to represent a means of da’wah and to contain da’wah messages to promote goodness and discourage bad deeds (amar ma'ruf nahi munkar).

Abstract

This community service activity was implemented using a service learning approach through a business planning and public communication training program for the Merah Putih Village Cooperative in Huta Baringin. The background to this activity stems from the need for cooperative members to increase their capacity in designing sustainable business plans and effective public communication skills in conveying the cooperative's vision, mission, and programs to the community. The implementation method was carried out through the stages of needs identification, formulation of training materials, simulation practices, and intensive mentoring. The results of the activity showed an increase in cooperative members' understanding in developing business plans based on local potential and improved public communication skills, both within the organizational context and externally to strategic partners. This program not only strengthens the cooperative's independence but also demonstrates the relevance of the service learning model in connecting the roles of academics, students, and the community collaboratively. Thus, this training contributes to local economic empowerment and strengthening institutional communication capacity at the village level.

Abstract

Abstract: Hoaxes are a serious challenge in the information age that can damage social order. In the context of Islam, the Qur'an provides guidance on justice and truth that are relevant to countering hoaxes. This study aims to explore the concept of justice in the Qur'an as a strategic framework in overcoming the phenomenon of the spread of hoaxes. This study uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method of the verses of the Qur'an related to justice and truth. In addition, this study reviews literature and case studies on the spread of hoaxes and the application of Qur'anic values in communication. This study found that the concept of justice in the Qur'an not only includes balance in upholding the truth, but also preventing the spread of slander and hoaxes through the principle of “tabayyun” as stated in QS Al- Hujurat: 6. The justice framing strategy based on Qur'anic values shows significant potential in countering hoaxes through an approach that emphasizes honesty, verification of information, and social welfare. The study also identified the effectiveness of implementing these values in digital literacy campaigns and Islamic communication. An approach based on Qur'anic justice values can be an effective strategy to combat hoaxes. The implementation of this framework not only improves public information literacy but also strengthens moral and spiritual values in communication

Abstract

This study explores the impact of live broadcast communication on the spiritual experience of congregants in listening to Friday prayer sermons in mosques and online platforms. With technological advancements, the method of delivering religious sermons has expanded, transcending the physical confines of mosques to digital arenas. The research aims to investigate how communication, particularly live broadcast, influences congregants' spiritual experiences. Using a mixed-method approach, data was collected from mosque attendees and online participants. The findings indicate that while physical presence in the mosque fosters a sense of community and direct engagement with the sermon, online platforms offer convenience and accessibility but may sacrifice a profound spiritual atmosphere. Disparities in audiovisual quality, social interactions, and distractions between the two settings affect the depth of spiritual engagement. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for religious leaders, mosque administrators, and policymakers to optimize the dissemination of religious messages to diverse audiences. This research contributes to discussions on the relationship between technology, communication, and spirituality in contemporary religious practices
