Abstract

This study aims to analyze the political practice of reciprocating in the 2024 Regional Elections in Sidikalang District and the factors that affect it. By using a qualitative approach and in-depth interview techniques with various informants such as success teams, community leaders, voters, and party administrators, it was found that the practice of reciprocating favors is the main strategy in building political support. The politics of reciprocity is carried out through the provision of social assistance, promises of projects, and the strengthening of ethnic or religious ties. The main factors driving this practice are patron-client relations, weak political education, party pragmatism, and the dominance of clienteleistic strategies in campaigns. These findings show that local democracy is still colored by transactional relations that hinder the formation of a government that is oriented towards the public interest. Therefore, efforts to improve political literacy, party reform, and law enforcement against money politics are needed to encourage a cleaner and more integrity election process.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the extent of the influence of family choice traditions on students' political decisions in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach by collecting data through interviews and literature studies. The results show that the family is still the main political socialization agent that influences students' political preferences, mainly due to emotional bonds, economic dependence, and inherited values from an early age. However, technological advances, higher education, and political discussions in the campus environment also provide space for students to think critically and make political decisions independently. Thus, although the tradition of family choice is still strong, its influence on students' political decisions tends to begin to weaken with the development of the times and wider access to information.

The Pujakesuma Association played a major role in winning legislative candidates in Simalungun Regency in the 2024 election.  This shows that associations that are synonymous with cultural organizations can take an important role in politics. A well-managed cultural realm will create good results in the surrounding environment, including in the political environment.

Abstract

This research focuses on self-reconstruction in corruption prevention policies at State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN). The problem of this research is how self-reconstruction becomes a solution in corruption prevention policies to achieve justice and social welfare at PTKIN. This research proposes a self-reconstruction mechanism to prevent corruption and execute justice and social welfare at PTKIN. This research design uses a qualitative approach with case studies as the primary method. The research locations are UIN Sunan Kalijaga, UIN Syarifhidayatullah, and UIN North Sumatra Medan. The theory used in this research is the theory of self according to the Eastern/Islamic view and the theory of self according to the West, as well as the basic understanding of corruption. This study resulted in the formulation of a self-reconstruction mechanism at PTKIN in preventing corruption, namely the process of self-improvement to avoid the factors that cause corruption starting from good initial intentions, improving moral morals and then self-consistency in work. Self-reconstruction is one of the solutions to preventing corruption in PTKIN. The solution to avoid corrupt behaviour in PTKIN must involve all elements, rectors, deans, lecturers, or other components. This research provides concrete evidence about the effectiveness of the self-reconstruction mechanism in preventing corruption at PTKIN, this is a valuable finding and can be a significant contribution to the literature and practice of preventing corruption in the academic environment.

Abstract

This article discusses political structure and culture with a focus on several key dimensions, namely the physical structure of politics, the social structure of politics, and various types of political culture. The physical structure of politics refers to the formal institutions and political mechanisms that influence the process of political action. The socio-political structure includes the distribution of power and social hierarchies that influence political dynamics in society. Furthermore, this article outlines the different types of political culture, including a political parochial culture that shows minimal involvement in national political affairs, a political subjective culture that reflects individuals' political attitudes and orientations towards power and political participation, and a political participatory culture that encourage active participation in the political process. Through an analysis of the physical and socio-political structures, as well as various political cultures, this article provides a more accurate understanding of the complexity of politics in modern societies. The implications of this understanding for public policy development and political system development are also discussed in depth.

Abstract

The rise of religious-based organizations, especially Islam after the 1998 reformation, led to a contestation between radical and moderate (wasathiyyah) streams. Organizations within the wasathiyyah group also experienced conflict. This study is an exploration of the wasathiyyah political movement carried out by Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah in North Sumatra to explore the ontology of the wasathiyyah political movement of the organization, the construction of the movement, and the practice of the wasathiyyah political movement of NU and Muhammadiyah. This comparative qualitative study found that 1) Muhammadiyah's Wasathiyyah is based on the thoughts of KH. Ahmad Dahlan in 7 philosophies of life which are summarized into the nature of religion, renewal-purification (tajdid), education, and social charity, the theological basis of Al-Ma'un and openness is central to the Muhammadiyah's approach, while Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) adopts the term Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah, characterized by tawasut}, I'tidal, tawa>zzun, and tasa>muh. The construction of NU's wasathiyyah political movement is rooted in moral and value-based principles, focusing on cultural politics and actively influencing electoral processes through non-formal organizational channels. On the other hand, Muhammadiyah places emphasis on cultural politics, modernizing education, health, and social work, alongside charitable efforts and tajdid to purify Islamic teachings in line with the Qur'an and Sunnah. In the context of North Sumatra, NU's wasathiyyah political movement actively engages in electoral politics and strives to enhance religious understanding internally and externally through educational and religious activities, while maintaining religious traditions based on the teachings of Islam Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah. Conversely, Muhammadiyah prioritizes the renewal and purification of Islamic teachings, with a focus on education, health, and charitable efforts for its members and externally.

Abstract

Abstract

This research discusses the application of electoral district structuring principles and Islamic political principles in the formation of North Sumatra Province DPRD Electoral Districts in the 2024 Election. Using qualitative research methods, normative approaches, and Miles and Huberman's interactive data analysis model. This research investigates the extent to which these principles are reflected in the determination of electoral districts. The results of the research show that the principle of equal vote value and the principle of proportionality has not been fully accommodated in the Determination of Electoral Districts for the DPRD of North Sumatra Province for the 2024 Election, based on the Principles of Electoral District Arrangement. According to the perspective of Islamic political principles such as obedience, justice, and equality (al-musawah), they cannot be fully applied in determining electoral districts. Further analysis reveals that the main factor causing the non-implementation of these principles is political influence in determining electoral districts for the DPR and Provincial DPRD in the 2024 Election. This research makes an important contribution to understanding the challenges and obstacles faced in realizing the democratic and political principles of Islam in the context of regional elections. The implications of these findings emphasize the need for reform to increase the value of voting representation and proportionality, in line with Islamic political principles. Practical recommendations involve policy reform and tighter oversight to reduce detrimental political influences. It is hoped that these steps will improve the implementation of these principles in future regional election systems.
