Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk dan fungsi dialek Osing yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Desa Kemiren sebagai representasi identitas sosial. Penelitian ini berfokus pada bagaimana kosakata dan pelafalan khas Osing digunakan dalam interaksi sehari-hari dan makna sosial yang terkandung di dalamnya. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode pencocokan intralingual digunakan untuk membandingkan tuturan dialek Osing dengan dialek Jawa. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara dengan tiga penutur asli Osing yang aktif dalam kegiatan sosial dan adat di Kemiren, Banyuwangi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dialek Osing memiliki ciri leksikal dan fonologis yang unik yang membedakannya dari bahasa Jawa, seperti penggunaan isun (saya), riko (kamu), madyang (makan), dan turau (tidur). Perbedaan-perbedaan ini tidak hanya menunjukkan variasi linguistik tetapi juga mencerminkan identitas dan solidaritas sosial masyarakat Osing. Penggunaan dialek Osing dalam upacara adat, komunikasi keluarga, dan percakapan sehari-hari menunjukkan perannya dalam melestarikan nilai-nilai budaya dan memperkuat identitas sosial. Implikasi penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pelestarian dialek lokal seperti Osing berperan krusial dalam menjaga solidaritas masyarakat, keberlangsungan budaya, dan keragaman bahasa di Indonesia. Lebih lanjut, temuan ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi kajian sosiolinguistik dan program pelestarian budaya yang bertujuan memperkuat identitas daerah di era globalisasi.

Abstract

Istighfar is an interjection in the Indonesian, borrowed from Arabic and widely used in various social situations, both in personal and public spheres. As a religious interjection that holds a significant position in the linguistic practices of Muslim communities, istighfar reflects both emotional responses and moral awareness toward events perceived as negative or sinful. This study aims identified the characteristics of istighfar as an interjection and to analyze its meaning using the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) approach. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method, the primary data were drawn from fifteen Indonesian novels by prominent authors, while supplementary data were taken from online news headlines and everyday communicative experiences, including spontaneous conversations and selected social media comments within the researcher’s observation. The analysis proceeded in two stages: categorizing istighfar within interjection typology and constructing semantic explications using NSM. The results show that istighfar fulfills nearly all prototypical features of interjections and carries complex spiritual content. Its use not only reflects emotional expression but also constructs and represents the speaker’s religious identity. This research affirms that language can reflect levels of religiosity, as demonstrated by the frequent use of religious interjections in Indonesian society, which is known for its high level of religious devotion.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and functions of sarcastic language style used by the characters in the film Rumah untuk Alie through a stylistic approach based on Keraf’s (2006) theory of language style. This research employs a qualitative method with listening and note-taking techniques to collect data in the form of utterances containing sarcasm. The data were analyzed using the referential identity method (metode padan) to interpret meanings, contexts, and rhetorical functions of sarcasm in shaping characters and conflicts. The findings reveal three main forms of sarcastic language style: mocking sarcasm, cursing sarcasm, and ironic sarcasm. Each form serves different rhetorical purposes, such as expressing emotions, channeling anger, and asserting social dominance within conflictual interactions. Stylistically, the use of sarcasm in the film demonstrates how diction, intonation, and context create emotional and aesthetic effects while reflecting the characters’ social dynamics and power relations. This study concludes that language in film functions not merely as a medium of communication but also as a means of psychological expression and social representation.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of associative meaning in poetry as a formative element of imaginative power, emotion, and linguistic creativity. However, there has been limited research systematizing associative meaning techniques as a model for poetry writing instruction. This study aims to analyze associative meaning techniques in Chairil Anwar's poems and formulate their implications for poetry writing instruction. This research employs a qualitative descriptive design with semantic analysis of eight selected poems from the collection Aku Ini Binatang Jalang (I Am a Wild Animal). Data were collected through repeated reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted through componential analysis, referential analysis, and meaning verification using KBBI (the Indonesian Dictionary). The research findings indicate that there are three dominant techniques in the development of associative meaning in Chairil Anwar's poetry: meaning components, rewriting, and synonymy. The synonymy technique is the most frequently used, followed by rewriting and meaning components. These findings demonstrate that associative meaning plays a crucial role in strengthening the expressive power and semantic depth of poetry. These findings have implications for poetry writing instruction, namely the need for explicit teaching of associative techniques to help students enrich their diction choices and expand semantic creativity in their poetic works.

Abstract

This study aims to examine elements of Indonesian culture in Tere Liye's novel Bumi using a literary anthropology approach. The analysis is based on Koentjaraningrat's seven dimensions of culture theory, which includes social organization systems, religious systems and ceremonies, livelihood systems, knowledge systems, technology and equipment systems, language systems, and arts. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with documentation techniques and data analysis through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the novel Bumi represents six of the seven dimensions of culture, namely social organization, religion, livelihood, science, technology and equipment, and language. The element of art is not explicitly found in the text. These findings prove that the novel Bumi not only has aesthetic value as a work of literature, but also serves as a medium for the preservation, internalization, and reflection of the culture of the archipelago. This study is expected to enrich culture-based literary studies while contributing to the learning of Indonesian language and literature. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji unsur-unsur kebudayaan Indonesia dalam novel Bumi karya Tere Liye dengan menggunakan pendekatan antropologi sastra. Analisis didasarkan pada teori tujuh dimensi kebudayaan Koentjaraningrat, yang meliputi sistem organisasi sosial, sistem religi dan upacara keagamaan, sistem mata pencaharian, sistem ilmu pengetahuan, sistem teknologi dan peralatan, sistem bahasa, serta kesenian. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik dokumentasi dan analisis data melalui reduksi, penyajian, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Bumi merepresentasikan enam dari tujuh dimensi kebudayaan, yakni sistem organisasi sosial, religi, mata pencaharian, ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan peralatan, serta bahasa. Adapun unsur kesenian tidak ditemukan secara eksplisit dalam teks. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa novel Bumi tidak hanya memiliki nilai estetika sebagai karya sastra, tetapi juga berperan sebagai media pelestarian, internalisasi, dan refleksi budaya Nusantara. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya kajian sastra berbasis budaya sekaligus memberikan kontribusi dalam pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra Indonesia.
