Abstract

The introduction of Qur'anic literacy from an early age is necessary in contemporary Islamic education. However, conventional approaches to teaching Qur'anic literacy often face various limitations, especially in maintaining children's interest in learning. This study examines the effectiveness of Smart Hafidz "Al Qolam" as an interactive digital media in supporting the mastery of hijaiyyah letters, reading fluency, and memorization of short letters in early childhood. This research method employed a descriptive quantitative approach to 22 children aged 4-6 years who were active users of Al Qolam for six months in TK Mawarbudi 1 and 2, Harjowinangun, Demak District. Data were collected through direct observation and assessment of children's Qur'anic skills. The results showed that all participants successfully mastered the hijaiyyah letters. Six children could read the Qur'an fluently, ten showed moderate fluency, and the remaining six could recognize letters well, although they did not read thoroughly. In addition, most children memorized at least five short surahs. Al Qolam's voice and interactivity features increased child engagement and created a more enjoyable learning experience in the home environment. This study confirms that digital tools, such as Al Qolam, have significant potential to strengthen the Qur'anic literacy foundation and can be broadly integrated into early childhood education.

Abstract

The Hajj rituals training activity in Demak Regency in 2025was motivated by the low technical and spiritualunderstanding of prospective pilgrims (JCH) of the correctprocedures for Hajj according to Sharia guidance. Involving1,200 participants, this activity used a communal religiousempowerment approach based on Participatory ActionResearch (PAR) during Ramadan 1446 H/2025 M, heldcentrally at the IPHI Building in Demak Regency. The mainobjectives of the activity were to improve Hajj literacy andmental-physical readiness and strengthen social cohesionamong pilgrims. The activities were carried out in threestages, including briefing on the theory of Hajj fiqh, technicalpractices and simulations, and spiritual-motivationalstrengthening. Evaluation was conducted through pre-testand post-test as well as direct observation. The resultsshowed significant improvements in fiqh understanding,psychological readiness, and the formation of small supportgroups among pilgrims. This training indicates a communaland structured approach can create optimal worshipreadiness and strengthen religious solidarity. This model willbecome a national reference in sustainable communitybased Hajj pilgrimage coaching.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the concept of independent education in Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s (KHD) perspective and determine its relevance to the independent learning policy implemented in Indonesia. This study is a literature review of character analysis with the main objective of profoundly investigating KHD’s concept of education about independent education through documentation studies and interviews, which were then analyzed using Content Analysis. According to the findings of this study, KHD presents the concept of independent education, starting from the purpose of educating students to liberate them esoterically, mentally, and physically by implementing Pancadarma, which is implemented in Taman Siswa, with among system using various methods that are continuously carried out from an early childhood to adulthood presented in the Taman Siswa. The concept of KHD’s independent education is relevant to that of independent learning in Indonesia today, in terms of its purposes, education system, teachers, and students

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Imam Az-Zarnuji’s educational principles from Ta’lim al-Muta’allim in shaping the growth mindset of female students at Madrasah Diniyah Putri TBS Kudus. Specifically, it investigates how key principles such as sincere intention (niyyah), respect for teachers, patience, perseverance, and discipline contribute to fostering a growth mindset characterized by resilience, openness to failure, and continuous self-improvement. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis involving two teachers and fifteen students. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns related to the application of Az-Zarnuji’s principles in students’ learning behavior and mindset development. The findings reveal that these classical Islamic educational values significantly reinforce modern psychological traits associated with the growth mindset, such as perseverance in learning, intrinsic motivation, and receptivity to feedback. The study offers concrete implications for Islamic education practice by demonstrating how integrating traditional pedagogical ethics with contemporary mindset theory can enhance students’ character formation and academic resilience. This integrative model presents a contextualized, holistic approach to developing growth-oriented learners in madrasah settings.

Abstract

This study explores the transformative impact of the Tahsin Program on advancing Qur’anic literacy by integrating culturally responsive pedagogy with contextually grounded instructional design. Addressing the gap in inclusive, community-rooted religious education, the program aims to foster both linguistic proficiency and cultural identity. A qualitative case study approach was employed at a community-based learning center in Cimahi, Indonesia. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, direct classroom observations, and document analysis. This multi-method strategy ensured a comprehensive understanding of the program’s design and outcomes. Findings revealed that over 80% of learners improved their Tajweed proficiency within three months. The program’s unique integration of modular curriculum progression, localized content, intergenerational mentorship, and embedded formative feedback contributed significantly to learner success. Culturally embedded practices—particularly the inclusion of elders—enhanced communal learning and reinforced cultural identity. Peer mentoring and dialogic group discussions fostered interpretive depth and active engagement, while ongoing feedback supported differentiated instruction and learner autonomy. The Tahsin Program exemplifies how pedagogical models that blend tradition with innovation can enhance religious education. By grounding the curriculum in social constructivist theory, the program accommodates diverse learner profiles and promotes sustainable community involvement. This study highlights the effectiveness of context-sensitive, culturally grounded Qur’anic education. Future research should explore how digital tools can scale such models for broader urban and online application.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Spiritual Quotient (SQ) in adopting Islamic e-wallets using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach. The data for this research were obtained from 130 Gen Z Muslim users of Islamic e-wallets in Central Java, Indonesia. The research data analysis employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings of this study reveal that spiritual quotient and perceived benefit have a positive and significant influence on the intention to use Islamic e-wallets. However, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use do not significantly affect the intention to use. Through this research, Islamic e-wallet service providers can further enhance system performance, effectiveness, and ease of use to build higher service credibility.

Abstract

Digital transformation in Islamic education necessitates innovative pedagogical strategies that honor religious values while equipping students with 21st-century skills. Within this context, pesantren—Islamic boarding schools rooted in Qur’anic memorization and character formation—face the challenge of integrating modern tools without compromising their core traditions. This study aims to explore how student-led video content creation fosters character development and digital literacy among elementary-aged students at Pesantren Anak-anak Tahfidzul Qur’an Raudlatul Falah (PPATQ RF), Central Java, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed that video production activities actively fostered values aligned with Islamic ethics, including discipline, responsibility, collaboration, and creativity. Students engaged not only with digital tools but also internalized moral lessons through scripting, directing, and reflecting on religious themes, such as honesty, patience, and communal accountability. While the initiative enhanced student engagement and self-confidence, it also encountered pesantren-specific challenges, such as time constraints due to tahfidz schedules, limited equipment, and the need for teacher training in media literacy. These findings highlight that integrating digital storytelling within pesantren pedagogy can serve as a transformative method for nurturing akhlāq al-karīmah (noble character) in line with Islamic educational ideals. This model offers new pathways for reimagining pesantren as centers of both religious integrity and technological adaptability.

Abstract

Environmental education is key in promoting environmental literacy, but integrating religious principles in education for sustainability remains under-researched. This study examines the role of tauhid-based environmental literacy in Islamic education, focusing on its effectiveness in shaping students' environmental awareness. The study used a qualitative approach involving interviews, observations and document analysis in three Islamic primary schools known for their commitment to the environment. The results showed that integrating Islamic theological teachings with environmental literacy significantly increased students' awareness and responsibility towards the environment. The main mechanisms are theological teaching, experiential learning, and institutional support, strengthening sustainability practices together. However, challenges such as the lack of a structured curriculum, resources, and inconsistent institutional support hinder the full implementation of faith-based environmental education. Compared to secular models, tauhid-centered sustainability education offers a holistic approach that integrates ethical, spiritual and scientific aspects and promotes long-term behavioral change. This research contributes to the broader debate on faith-based environmental education by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of religion-integrated sustainability education. Future research should explore curriculum development and policy integration to institutionalize tauhid-based environmental literacy, ensuring its long-term impact in different educational contexts. Pendidikan lingkungan memiliki peran krusial dalam menumbuhkan kesadaran ekologi, namun integrasi prinsip berbasis agama dalam pembelajaran keberlanjutan masih kurang dieksplorasi. Studi ini menelaah peran literasi ekologi berbasis tauhid dalam pendidikan Islam, dengan fokus pada efektivitasnya dalam membentuk kesadaran lingkungan siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen di tiga sekolah dasar Islam yang diakui atas komitmennya terhadap lingkungan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi ajaran teologi Islam dengan literasi ekologi secara signifikan meningkatkan kesadaran dan tanggung jawab lingkungan siswa. Mekanisme utama yang mendukung hal ini mencakup pengajaran teologis, pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman, dan dukungan institusional yang secara kolektif memperkuat praktik keberlanjutan. Namun, tantangan seperti kurangnya kurikulum yang terstruktur, keterbatasan sumber daya, dan dukungan institusional yang tidak konsisten masih menghambat implementasi penuh pendidikan ekologi berbasis agama. Dibandingkan dengan model sekuler, pendidikan keberlanjutan berbasis tauhid menawarkan pendekatan holistik yang menggabungkan dimensi etika, spiritual, dan ilmiah, serta mendorong perubahan perilaku jangka panjang. Studi ini berkontribusi pada diskursus lebih luas mengenai pendidikan lingkungan berbasis agama dengan memberikan bukti empiris tentang efektivitas pembelajaran keberlanjutan yang terintegrasi dengan nilai-nilai keagamaan. Penelitian selanjutnya perlu mengeksplorasi pengembangan kurikulum dan integrasi kebijakan untuk menginstitusionalisasikan literasi ekologi berbasis tauhid, guna memastikan dampak jangka panjang dalam berbagai konteks pendidikan.

Abstract

Early childhood talent exploration by Early Childhood Education (ECED) teachers is an essential challenge in optimizing children's future potential. However, teachers' methods are often insufficiently structured, with constraints regarding training, limited time, and resources. This study aims to explore the methods used by ECD teachers in researching children's talents and the constraints they face in implementing these strategies. The technique used was a qualitative approach with a case study involving in-depth interviews with 10 teachers and observations in three PAUD institutions. The results show that spontaneous observation, project-based activities, and standardized evaluation tools are the primary methods teachers implement. However, most teachers face constraints regarding lack of training, limited time, and inadequate resources. To improve the effectiveness of talent acquisition, this study suggests the importance of continuous training, increased resources, and the application of more systematic evaluation methods. The findings contribute to the development of early childhood education theory and practice and point to the need for policies that support the development of teachers' skills in identifying and developing children's talents.
