Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon that causes the surface temperature of a city to be higher than the surrounding area due to changes in land cover. To overcome the negative impacts of UHI, especially in the Kebun Bibit Settlement, Hajimena Village, South Lampung, a Community Service program was implemented with the implementation of Sustainable Edible Landscape (SEL). This program consists of two main parts: education about UHI and SEL and implementation of SEL. Education is carried out using interactive media to increase public understanding of UHI and the benefits of SEL in mitigating it. Furthermore, the implementation of SEL involves land preparation, preparation of planting media, sowing seeds, and planting vegetables with the aim of mitigating UHI and increasing food security and the local economy. Evaluation was carried out with pre-tests and post-tests, showing a significant increase in public understanding of UHI and SEL. This activity is expected to improve environmental conditions and improve community welfare.

Abstract

Desa Sri Agung, Kecamatan Padang Ratu, Kabupaten Lampung Tengah, faces issues with several road sections where the street lighting system is not functioning to enhance nighttime visibility. To address this problem, Solar-Powered Public Street Lighting (PJU-TS) was installed. This system utilizes a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) to detect light intensity and employs an IC 7805 as a voltage regulator. The PJU-TS lights automatically turn on at night in dark environmental conditions and turn off during the day by utilizing solar energy as the primary power source, thereby reducing dependence on conventional electricity. This activity consists of several methodological steps, including field surveys, system design, installation, and performance evaluation of the PJU-TS. The installation was carried out in two strategic locations involving the local community at several points along the roads in Sri Agung Village.. The evaluation results indicate that the PJU-TS system functions optimally to improve road visibility. However, there are still issues with the energy storage battery capacity, which remains small and affects lighting duration. The implementation of public street lighting with Solar Technology (PJU TS) in Sri Agung Village has had a significant impact on improving accessibility, security, and energy efficiency. Additionally, it helps promote energy sustainability and raises public awareness of the use of environmentally friendly technology.

Abstract

Bandar Lampung City, Indonesia, still necessitates proper and safe sanitation infrastructure. Particularly, related to blackwater that is stored in the septic tank. A proper and safe septic tank must meet the requirement, preventing leakage and should be designed for periodic emptying. In this community services, the septic tank is designed to be emptied within 3 years. The septic tank infrastructure is designed using ferrocement. The consideration is the technology already common in the usage of water infrastructure as it is strong, leakage resistance, lightweighted and more affordable comparing to concrete. Based on the design, the ferrocement septic tank is designed by two compartment, with 2 meter length, 1 meter width and 1.95 meter in height.

Abstract

The role of the Kubu Raya Regency Regional Library in realizing a culture of community literacy can be said to have not run as expected. This is based on research that is constrained by the availability of budget funds and human resources. The research data was obtained from the results of observations and interviews with purposively selected research subjects. This type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach, the results of the research, the Kubu Raya Regency Regional Library has not played a role in realizing a culture of community literacy. This can be seen in the role of a Facilitator where the Regional Library has not been able to facilitate several facilities and infrastructure that support in realizing a literacy culture in several school libraries and Community Reading Gardens (TBM) in Kubu Raya Regency. Meanwhile, the role of Community Servant has been carried out according to its provisions. The role as a companion who is actually a partner in realizing a literacy culture based on the research results of the existing companions has never received training in any form so as to affect the ability as a companion. As a Partner, regional libraries have not fully carried out their role in fostering, supporting and collaborating in an effort to improve the literacy culture of the community with existing literacy enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the role as a funder, the regional library does not provide assistance in the form of funds but as an intermediary in literacy activists asking for assistance from the national library. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended: as a facilitator, regional libraries can innovate in accordance with their duties and responsibilities, as a companion can provide motivation, support and inspiration for literacy seekers. As a partner, regional libraries can partner with the private sector and play a role as Funders, due to their limitations, libraries can focus on important activities that have an impact on realizing a culture of community literacy
