Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan “mahangke” suku Karo sebagai tindak tutur dalam komunikasi antara mertua dan menantu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data berasal dari suku Karo yang bermukim di Kabanjahe, Kabupaten Karo, Kecamatan Sampe Raya, Kabupaten Langkat, Sumatera Utara. Data penelitian ini merupakan informasi lisan yang berupa cerita tentang “mahangke”. Peneliti adalah instrumen kunci, adapun intrumen tambahan berupa alat perekam suara yang digunakan untuk mengambil data dari sumber data. Hasil dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa, “mahangke” merupakan adat istiadat yang telah diturunkan secara turun temurun oleh nenek moyang suku Karo yang tujuannya adalah untuk memberikan batasan atau larangan antara mertua dan menantu untuk berkomunikasi secara langsung, yaitu mertua laki-laki dan menantu perempuan, mertua perempuan dan menantu laki-laki. Dalam bahasa Karo batasan ini disebut dengan “rebu” yang artinya ‘pantang’. Berdasarkan hal ini, ketika mertua dan menantu ingin menyampaikan informasi atau meminta sesuatu, mereka menggunakan perantara sebagai penerima pesan, namun respon yang diinginkan sesungguhnya adalah dari mertua atau menantu tersebut

Abstract

This study deals with multimodal analysis of a printed advertisement “Burger King”. The objective of the study is to find out the general structure of Burger King printed advertisement, identifying with multimodal analysis. The source of data is visual or printed advertisement of Burger King that can be found in internet or public area. The data of the research is the content of printed advertisement that focus on kinds of advertisement structure. The reseach design is descriptive qualitative research design. The result of this reeach, there are not all general structure of advertisement by Cheong theory occur in the printed advertisement “Burger King”.

Abstract

Vocabulary serves as the foundation for increasing language skills for language learners. This research aimed to find out the significant impact of the hello words feature in the Hellotalk app on increasing the English vocabulary of 16 students in grade 8. The research utilized a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected through a multiple-choice vocabulary test. The research process included a pre-test, treatments, and a post-test. Data analysis was using SPSS 27.01 with descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and paired sample t-tests. The results revealed that the hello words feature in the Hellotalk app significantly increased students' English vocabulary, with an average pre-test score of 58.3313 and a post-test score of 82.5006. At a significance level of ? = 0.05, the paired sample t-test revealed a significance value (2-tailed) of < 0.001, which is smaller than 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H?) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H?) was accepted.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the Transfiguration of Characteristics Medan People slang into formal vocabulary of Bahasa Indonesia. The objective of the study referred to identify the general language about language changes in Medan. This research was conducted used Descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study was a result of observation and interview, and the source of the data was taken from students at University Muhammadyah Sumatera Utara. The result of this research we found the differences in transfiguration in Indonesian on a daily language use of Medan people, this is influenced by culture, ethnicity, region, religion and gender. Slang language influences Indonesian itself.

Abstract

The rise of digital platforms and media has made it essential for educators to adopt innovative methods that appeal to diverse learning styles, thus fostering a deeper connection to ecological concepts. This study explores the use of multimodal-based approaches in teaching ecological literacy, focusing on the integration of textual, visual, and auditory elements to enhance students' understanding of environmental issues. Quantitative and qualitative approach was used in this study, employing a case study method with pre- and post-test assessments to measure students' ecological literacy levels before and after the implementation of multimodal teaching techniques. Data was collected through surveys, interviews, and observation to gather a rich understanding of the students' experiences. The results indicate that the use of multimodal teaching methods significantly enhanced students' ecological literacy, with notable improvements in both cognitive understanding and emotional engagement with environmental issues. Students showed increased awareness and critical thinking skills regarding ecological challenges, and their ability to connect theory with real-world applications was strengthened. In the discussion, it is highlighted that multimodal-based approaches not only improve comprehension but also foster a more inclusive learning environment, allowing students to engage with content in varied and meaningful ways. These findings suggest that multimodal approaches are essential for contemporary ecological education, encouraging both knowledge retention and active participation in environmental advocacy.

Abstract

This research investigated the ability of children to pronounce the capital letter in words at 2-3 years at Kampung Lalang. Toddlers at the age of 2 years and up to 3 years would usually be able to say 50 words or more although some letters will still be difficult for them to pronounce. Vocabulary may grow rapidly but pronunciation may not keep up. There would be pronunciations that were difficult for them to pronounce even though they know what they were referring to. Only a few words and letters that they were able to pronounce and pronounce. The research aimed to find out the ability of children to pronounce the capital letter in words at 2-3 years at Kampung Lalang. The research was conducted in the house of parents that have the regional Kampung Lalang. This research was conducted by using Qualitative Descriptive methods. The instruments for collecting data were observation, interview, and oral-written documentation. The data analysis was the result of research in the house of parents that have the regional Kampung Lalang. After analyzing the folklore, the researcher found some capital letters that able to produced by the children and their ability to pronounce the capital letter in words. The letters were able to be pronounced by the children are A, B, C, D, E, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z. And the letters that were not able to be pronounced by the children are R and S. Keywords: Capital letter, Pronounce, The ability, Children.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the different types of errors that ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Kuta Buluh, Tanah Karo committed when writing narrative texts during the academic year 2022–2023. There were 28 students in this study. The author used a qualitative descriptive approach. On Friday, May 19, 2023, an offline investigation was conducted. The researchers looked into the narrative text writing errors made by the students. The categorization of student writing errors was the study's main goal. The Surface Strategy Taxonomy analysis of the results revealed 40 mistakes in the students' narrative text. 11 addition mistakes totaling 27.5% were made, as were 20 omission mistakes totaling 50%, 7 misformation mistakes totaling 17.5%, and 2 misordering mistakes totaling 5%. The most typical mistake is omission (20).

Abstract

This study explores the application of the clustering technique to enhance creative writing on the descriptive text for junior high school students at SMP Marisi Medan. The research question focuses on assessing the effectiveness of the clustering technique in writing descriptive text. The objective is to determine whether the use of the clustering technique significantly affect to enhance students' writing skills. The research adopts a pre-experimental design, within the population of 298 eighth-grade students. The sample consists of 20 students, selected through purposive sampling. The research employs a writing test comprising both pre-test and post-test assessments. Following the application of the clustering technique in teaching descriptive writing, the post-test mean score (79.0) surpasses the pre-test mean score (64.0). The hypothesis testing results, with a Sig. (2-tailed) score of 0.000 less than 0.05, lead to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. In essence, the findings indicate a significant positive impact of utilizing the clustering technique on the effectiveness of students' descriptive writing skills.

Abstract

In writing descriptive text, there are five aspects that need to be considered: identification, description, language use, vocabulary, and mechanics. Based on the problems identified at the beginning of the research, the aim of this research is to assess students’ ability to write descriptive text was determine students' abilities in writing descriptive texts for class XI students at SMK PANGERAN ANTASARI. This research focuses on 23 students. Researchers apply qualitative methods. This research was carried out directly on Tuesday, May 21 in class XI of SMK PANGERAN ANTASARI. Researchers examined deficiencies in students' descriptive text writing. This research focuses on categorizing students' writing errors. Data was obtained through a descriptive text-writing test. The results of the research show that students’ abilities in writing identification varied from bad to good, their ability in writing descriptions was less than satisfactory, their ability in using language, vocabulary and mechanics was also less than satisfactory. Additionally the research shows that students experience struggles in clearly identifying objects, developing ideas related to their lack of understanding of the structure of the simple present tense, as well as facing limitations in vocabulary and making mechanical mistakes.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan implementasi kurikulum merdeka pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan, mendeskripsikan problematika guru dan peserta didik dalam implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP Negeri 27 Medan, serta mendeskripsikan solusi yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi problematika implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan. Metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan oleh peneliti dalam penelitian ini. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan peneliti dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dalam wawancara yang telah dilaksanakan oleh peneliti, terdapat problematika yang dialami oleh guru dan siswa yaitu terbatasnya pemahaman guru Bahasa Indonesia terhadap implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka, kendala dalam membuat modul ajar atau perencanaan pembelajaran dan sarana prasarana kurang memadai yang mengakibatkan proses pembelajaran dan Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP Negeri 27 Medan kurang maksimal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan sudah mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka sejak tahun 2021 sampai tahun 2024 sesuai keputusan dan pengesahan yang sudah disahkan oleh Pemerintah. Namun dalam mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka masih terdapat beberapa problematik, pihak sekolah dan tenaga pendidik terutama guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia berusaha agar pelaksanaan Kurikulum Merdeka berlangsung sesuai dengan tujuan yang akan dicapai. Solusi yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi problematika implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka yaitu: menggunakan pendekatan diferensiasi, mengikuti pelatihan, sosialisasi, workshop, memahami pedoman yang jelas dalam pengembangan Kurikulum Merdeka, meningkatkan kreativitas guru dan peserta didik dan mengoptimalkan sumber daya yang ada seperti melengkapi sarana dan prasarana.
