Abstract

Hope is important in mediating the relationship between optimism and grit in adolescents. Optimism, believing in positive future outcomes, can promote constructive attitudes. However, hope helps to direct such optimism into concrete actions in the form of grit in achieving goals. This study examined the effect of optimism on grit, with hope as a mediating among adolescents in Islamic boarding schools. This study used a quantitative, ex-post facto approach involving 367 adolescents selected through multistage random sampling. Data were collected using the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S), Optimism Scale, and Adult Dispositional Hope Scale. Data was analyzed using multiple regression with Process v4.2 macro of Hayes Model 4 through SPSS. The findings showed a significant positive influence between optimism and grit through hope, with complete mediation. Therefore, it is crucial for boarding schools to foster optimism and set realistic goals, as this can improve students' fortitude and academic achievement. The practical implications of these findings are that teachers and Islamic boarding school administrators can teach and promote an optimistic attitude and realistic and positive goal setting, reward small achievements, and goal visualization exercises can help increase adolescent hope and grit.

Abstract

Mathematics physics is often considered by students as a very difficult subject to learn, one of the causes that makes this happen is the lack of learning media that supports students. In addition, most of the existing media use foreign languages, so that in this case Indonesian language learning media is needed, namely the mathematical physics e-module on vector material which is then seen from student responses based on gender differences. This study aims to analyze students' perceptions of the mathematics physics e-module and to analyze students' perceptions based on gender differences in the mathematics physics e-module. This type of research is survey-based research with a quantitative approach. The population of this study was physics education students who contracted mathematical physics with a sample of 80 students. The instrument used in this study was a student perception questionnaire with 15 questions and an interview sheet with 10 questions. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistical analysis and inferential data analysis using t-test. The results showed that overall students had a positive perception with a perception value of 60% in the very good category and 40% in the good category, whereas when viewed from the gender difference, male students had a perception value of 76.6% in the very good category and 23, 3% in the good category, for female students 50% in the very good category and 50% in the good category. That is, students with gender differences have striking differences in perceptions. Student perceptions can be used as a determining factor in the selection of open materials. From the results, it can be seen that gender differences can help in assessing the products made so that they will support the learning process and increase student learning motivation.

Abstract

Many senior high school students face challenges in situations that require mathematical skills, often resulting in low interest and discomfort in learning mathematics. This study aims to examine the influence of academic self-efficacy and teacher social support on academic flow in the context of mathematics learning among high school students. Employing a quantitative ex-post facto design, the study involved 420 students selected through a probability sampling method using a multistage cluster random sampling technique, due to the large population size. Data were collected using modified instruments: the Flow Perceptions Questionnaire (FPQ), the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Foreign Language Teacher Support Scale (FLTSS). Data analysis was conducted using prerequisite tests and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that both academic self-efficacy and teacher social support significantly predict students’ experience of academic flow in mathematics learning. Students who possess strong confidence in their academic capabilities and receive substantial social support from teachers are more likely to engage positively in mathematics learning through the experience of academic flow. These results highlight the importance of fostering students’ academic self-efficacy and enhancing the quality of teacher support to optimize academic flow in mathematics education. Abstract

Many individuals fail to achieve their goals because of their low self-efficacy. This research was initiated from a case that many researchers found in the surrounding environment, especially the campus environment. Researchers often meet students who do part-time jobs in between their activities as students. This phenomenon makes researchers interested in conducting research on students who work part-time during the thesis preparation period to see how the student's self-efficacy is. The research then uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, with the subject collection technique using purposive sampling technique, with data collection using interviews. The results showed that the subject under study was able to achieve all aspects of self-efficacy. The subjects succeeded in motivating and convincing themselves that they could by managing their time well, not giving up easily and being confident that they would graduate even with a busy schedule. And find a way to get up and succeed in completing their assignments.

Abstract

The high dropout rate in Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia poses a significant educational challenge. Many adolescents lose interest in continuing their education at boarding schools, resulting in many of them dropping out. Increased grit is believed to have a significant impact on the academic success of adolescents in these schools. This study examines the influence of optimism and hope on grit in adolescents attending Islamic boarding schools. The study uses a quantitative ex-post facto approach, involving 367 teenagers selected through multistage random sampling. Data were collected using the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S), an optimism scale, and the Dispositional Adult Hope Scale, and analyzed using multiple regression with SPSS Version 27. The results showed that optimism and hope together have a positive and significant effect on grit (p 0.05). Partially, optimism acts as a positive belief in future outcomes that encourages students to view challenges as opportunities, while hope provides clarity of purpose and the ability to devise alternative strategies to overcome obstacles. These findings confirm that the synergy between optimism and hope forms a psychological foundation that strengthens students' resilience amid academic and spiritual demands in the dormitory.
