Abstract

Someone with coronary heart disease is someone who has a heart defect that makes the heart experience narrowing or inhibition of arteries that drain blood to the heart muscle. This situation may affect the optimism of life that exists in coronary heart patients. However, if coronary heart patients get social support from their partners, it can have a good impact on the level of life optimism. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between spousal social support and life optimism in coronary heart disease patients in Pekanbaru City, Riau. This study uses correlational quantitative research methods. The population in this study amounted to 213 people and the sample amounted to 139 people. The sample was determined using non-probability sampling technique. Then, the data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis. The results of this study indicate that the level of Partner social support is in the high category and life optimism is in the moderate category. Then, the results of the correlation test between partner social support and life optimism obtained a p value = 0.044 and a correlation coefficient value of 0.141. This shows that the proposed research hypothesis is accepted, namely that there is a positive relationship between partner social support and life optimism in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Empathy is crucial for individuals to interact well with others, but it has been declining among teenagers. This decline has led to increased bullying and antisocial behavior. This study aims to examine empathy in adolescents in terms of parenting, peer social support, and gender. The study involved 176 samples using a cluster random sampling technique, which included all 11th-grade students of SMA 11 Jambi City. The research follows a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression tests and independent sample T-tests to compare empathy based on gender. The results showed that authoritarian parenting affects empathy by 0.8%, democratic parenting affects empathy by 5.8%, permissive parenting affects empathy by 4.7%, peer social support significantly affects empathy by 27.9%, and overall parenting and peer social support together influence empathy by 71.9%. A comparison of empathy by gender found that women scored higher than men, with a mean difference of 1.43 and a significance of 0.005, indicating a significant difference. The novelty of this study lies in its exploration of how gender differences also impact adolescent empathy, which can help parents optimize their parenting and create a positive peer environment for adolescents in order to foster empathy within them.

Abstract

Positive education is an implementation of positive psychology which is a study related to happiness and well-being, namely using the PERMA model developed by Seligman in 2011. In the context of education, positive psychology has had a positive impact with the emergence of positive education which has even been adapted by Indonesia's new curriculum, namely Merdeka Belajar. In positive education, our goal is not only to improve student achievement in terms of cognitive and student skills, but how well-being and positive character of students are also a big consideration in order to increase Indonesian students' interest in learning. Not only the teacher's efforts but students have also been introduced to Positive Psychology in order to explore the positive character strengths of students. Future researchers can certainly examine more deeply the use of independent learning in the long term and how it affects learning in schools, especially learning physics.

Abstract

This research is the first research derived from applied science in the field of public health to explore gender differences in levels of toxic positivity in adolescents. Toxic positivity is defined as the overgeneralization and ineffectiveness of happy and optimistic states in all situations resulting in the denial, minimization, and invalidation of authentic human emotional experiences. The research sample consisted of male and female teenagers aged 18-24. Data was collected through a questionnaire that measures the level of toxic positivity based on responses related to positivity and behavior that can ignore or override negative emotions. The results show that there is a significant difference between male and female adolescents in the level of toxic positivity. Adolescent girls tend to show lower levels of toxic positivity than adolescent boys. These findings indicate that adolescent girls are more likely to acknowledge and manage their negative emotions more openly than adolescent boys. This study provides important insights into gender differences in the context of toxic positivity in adolescents. The results can be used to develop more targeted interventions and approaches to help adolescents manage their emotions healthily and constructively. The novelty of this research is that it introduces a new measure of toxic positivity that can capture the subtle and complex ways in which people cope with their emotions. This study also contributes to the literature on gender and emotion regulation by highlighting differences in patterns and consequences of toxic positivity among male and female adolescents.

Abstract

This pioneering study endeavors to paint a vivid portrait of optimism among physics undergraduate students pursuing studies abroad, illuminating the multifaceted dimensions of their academic and personal journey. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research delves deep into the lived experiences of five purposively sampled participants, unraveling the intricate interplay between optimism, self-confidence, and social support networks. Through semi-structured interviews, the study unveils a compelling narrative of resilience and determination, as physics students abroad exhibit unwavering optimism in navigating the challenges inherent in their academic pursuits. Notably, participants demonstrate a profound sense of self-assurance, fostering a supportive environment characterized by mutual respect and camaraderie among peers. Moreover, the study sheds light on the pivotal role of external support systems, ranging from familial encouragement to mentorship from teachers, in bolstering students' resolve and fortitude. By focusing on physics undergraduate students hailing from Indonesia and studying across diverse international landscapes, this research offers a novel lens through which to understand the transformative power of optimism in transcending geographical and cultural boundaries. As such, the findings underscore the critical importance of fostering an optimistic mindset among students embarking on international academic endeavors, advocating for tailored support mechanisms that nurture self-efficacy, self-esteem, and social connectedness. Ultimately, this study serves as a clarion call for educational institutions and support service providers to prioritize holistic strategies aimed at cultivating and sustaining optimism among physics undergraduates pursuing studies abroad, thereby empowering them to thrive in the face of adversity and realize their full academic potential.
