Abstract

Kulut kaet, or mourning lament, is an important tradition in the Dawan ethnic community in South Central Timor District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which carries deep religious significance. It is more than just an expression of grief over loss, but also a means of honoring the spirit of the deceased and maintaining the connection between the living world and the spiritual world. This article aims to explore the religious significance of the Kulut kaet emphasizing the spiritual dimension of the mourning ritual. Through a qualitative and ethnographic approach, this study analyses how Kulut kaet functions as a form of respect for the spirits of the deceased, as a way of maintaining relationships with ancestors, as well as a collective healing mechanism for the Dawan community. The results show that Kulut kaet is not only an expression of personal grief, but also a ritual that involves the community in the process of grieving together. This lament becomes important in strengthening social solidarity, preserving traditions, and carrying out religious obligations as a tribute to the spirits of the deceased.

Abstract

This study explores the "Function, Meaning, and Value of the Death Speech of the Dawan Ethnic Group in South Pene Village, Kolbano Subdistrict, South Central Timor Regency." The death speech is a central element of funeral rituals, serving as a medium for cultural, social, and spiritual expression. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis is grounded in cultural linguistics, Jakobson’s theory of language functions, and Alisjahbana’s classification of values. Findings reveal that death speech performs multiple essential functions: guiding the soul to the ancestral realm (spiritual), uniting the community in mourning (social), affirming inheritance rights (customary), conveying moral lessons (educational), and preserving cultural identity (cultural). It embodies symbolic, religious, historical, and genealogical meanings and reflects the core values of Dawan life. The study concludes that death speech is not merely a traditional practice but a vital form of intangible cultural heritage that must be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Abstract

This research is An Analysis Reduplication of Sabu Language In Eikare Village Sabu Liae District Sabu Raijua Regency. The purpose of this research are (1) to find out the forms of reduplication in the Liae dialect of the Sabu language and (2) to find out the functions of reduplication in the Liae dialect of the Sabu Language. The research method that the researcher used is qualitative descriptive. The researcher takes two native speakers as informants in the Liae dialect of the Sabu Language. The instrument used in this research is thirty sentences in Indonesian, then translated into the Sabu Language. The researcher will use three data collection techniques: transcribing, identifying, and analyzing. Reduplication in the Sabu language is often used to give intensification or quantity to these words. For example, in the Sabu language, the noun is used to express the number of objects, such as manu-chicken into manu-manu-chickens. In addition, expressing repeated actions, such as bejhi-sleep becoming bejhi-bejhi, means to lie down. It should be noted that reduplication in the Sabu language is not just a repetition of words without phonological and morphological changes. Each type of reduplication has specific rules and functions, so it is necessary to analyze to understand the concept. The results of this research are expected to positively contribute to the field of linguistics, especially in improving the understanding of regional languages, developing literacy, and supporting local cultural preservation efforts by promoting the importance of the Sabu language in the cultural context of the Sabu community

Abstract

The active learning component of the student-centered learning strategy involves students working in teams to complete projects and solve issues. They also ask and answer their own questions, discuss topics, and provide explanations in class. This study intends to examine how lecturers view the student-centered learning strategy when teaching intermediate grammar to second-graders in higher education. It also seeks to ascertain how effective this technique is in this setting. This study specifically responds to the following queries: 1). How do the teachers feel about implementing a student-centered learning strategy when instructing intermediate English grammar? 2). How do the pre-test and post-test results of the control and experimental groups compare? An experimental research design was used in this study. The control group and the experimental group are the two groups that make up this study.  First-graders in the experimental group were steered through student-centered education to improve their command of intermediate grammar. The findings demonstrated that student-centered learning was highly successful, while instructor perceptions were favorable, neutral, and negative. So, there are still pros and cons if teaching grammar uses a student-centered learning approach
