Abstract

This study analyzes the language styles used by Susi Pudjiastuti in her speech Menjaga Kekayaan Laut Indonesia and the social factors influencing the language styles. The writers used Keraf’s theory of language style (2009) to examine the word choice and sentence structure, and Holmes’ theory of social factors (2013). Employing a qualitative method, the study focused on the utterances containing language styles. The findings show that the most frequently used language style based on word choice was the conversational style. In terms of sentence structure, repetition and climax were the mostly used by Susi Pudjiastuti. These results suggest that social factors namely participant, topic, setting, and function played a role in shaping her language styles. Future research is encouraged to apply the full framework of Keraf (2009) to explore other forms of public communication.

Abstract

Background: Arnold-Chiari (AC) disease in children is a complex congenital condition requiring multidisciplinary management. Surgical intervention is often necessary to correct affected anatomy and alleviate symptoms. Objective: To investigate surgical approaches and post-surgical management of AC in children and identify knowledge gaps. Methods: Literature search was systematically conducted through PubMed using relevant keywords. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies within the past 15 years pertaining to pediatric neurosurgery and Chiari. Results: Six relevant studies highlighted the importance of intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring, comparison of outcomes between posterior decompression with and without duraplasty, correlation of CSF flow with surgical outcomes, post-operative pain management, and indications for syringosubarachnoid shunt placement. Knowledge gaps remain regarding long-term effects of monitoring techniques, surgical outcome comparisons, CSF flow relationships, and pain management. Conclusion: Surgical intervention for AC in children is critical, yet meticulous post-surgical management is required. Cross-disciplinary collaboration and a holistic approach are necessary to enhance understanding and care of AC in children.

Abstract

The importance of traffic density measurement in road planning has led to efforts in automation using object detection algorithms, particularly YOLO (You Only Look Once), which are replacing error-prone and time-consuming manual processes. However, challenges arise in dense traffic conditions, posing a challenge to vehicle detection accuracy. This research aims to compare the performance of vehicle detection between two YOLO approaches: multi-view layer detection and conventional detection, focusing on YOLOv5n, YOLOv5s, and YOLOv5m. The literature review encompasses Computer Vision, YOLO implementation, and related research to provide conceptual context. The research method details the steps of vehicle identification using YOLOv5, and the evaluation includes the performance of various YOLO variants and multi-view detection approaches. Thus, this study is expected to gain deeper insights into building an effective model and facilitating the selection of a suitable YOLO model for vehicle detection.

Abstract

Community Service Activities are carried out with the Hati Suci Orphanage Partners. Hati Suci Orphanage wants them to get a social environment that is generally obtained by children their age. In an effort to realize it, the Hati Suci Orphanage is faced with various challenges, one of which is the approach with children and the approach between one child and another, or how they carry out interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication is an interaction process carried out between two or more people to convey messages that involve individuals as senders of messages and other individuals as recipients of messages that are useful for establishing positive social relationships. Therefore, we provide a solution by providing an understanding of how to carry out good interpersonal communication with others and people who are younger or older with the aim of training the self-confidence of the orphans. We do this understanding through the presentation of the material we have prepared in front of the orphans. The output we will produce is in the form of research articles published on kompas.com. The method of implementing this PKM activity has an implementation stage, that is, we conduct an informal presentation of interpersonal communication material to the children at the Hati Suci Orphanage. Participation of partners, namely providing space at the orphanage for presentation of material and scheduling meetings with orphanage children for presentation of the material. Description of the duties of team members, we have our respective roles in order to support PKM activities so that they run well. For additional outdoor plans, we will create a placard and flyer design regarding our material. In order to realize this PKM activity, we prepared this proposal with the title "The Role of Interpersonal Communication in Practicing Self-Confidence at the Hati Suci Orphanage".
