Abstract

Backgroud: Ovarian carcinoma is the third most common malignancy in Indonesian women after breast and cervical cancer. Serous ovarian carcinoma is the most frequent subtype, divided into low-grade and high-grade types, each with distinct genetic and biological characteristics. Objective:This study aims to compare the clinicopathological features of high-grade and low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using 77 paraffin-embedded samples of serous ovarian carcinoma. Clinical and pathological data including age, body mass index (BMI), age at menarche, and parity were collected and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: Patients aged >50 years accounted for most cases, with 64.3% presenting high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC). Overweight/obesity was observed in 40.3% of cases. Early menarche (<13 years) was reported in 78%, and 42.7% were multiparous. No significant differences were found in clinical variables between HGSC and low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC). Histopathologically, HGSC showed more pronounced cytologic atypia, necrosis, and metastasis. Conclusion: High-grade serous carcinoma demonstrates greater aggressiveness compared to its low-grade counterpart. Histopathological assessment plays a critical role in diagnosis, treatment decisions, and prognosis evaluation.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide. Tumor budding has emerged as a potential prognostic indicator in colorectal adenocarcinoma. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between tumor budding and histopathological grade, lymphovascular invasion, and lymph node metastasis in colorectal adenocarcinoma, and to assess the potential of tumor budding as a prognostic factor. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using 93 colorectal adenocarcinoma samples. The association between tumor budding and histopathological grade, lymphovascular invasion, and lymph node metastasis was evaluated using the Chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: Among the 93 samples, a significant difference in tumor budding scores was found between cases with and without lymphovascular invasion (p = 0.003). However, no significant association was observed between tumor budding scores and histopathological grade (p = 0.685) or lymph node metastasis (p = 0.092). Additionally, a significant correlation was found between lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Tumor budding may serve as an important prognostic factor in colorectal adenocarcinoma, particularly in its association with lymphovascular invasion

Abstract

ABSTRACT The coastal region of Tanete Rilau District in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, faces significant challenges in child nutrition, particularly stunting, despite its abundant marine resources and potential for economic growth. The prevalence of stunting in Barru Regency fluctuates, with a concerning trend in children's consumption patterns shifting towards unhealthy processed snacks high in sugar, salt, and preservatives. To address these challenges, Hasanuddin University has developed innovative products and technologies based on local resources, specifically Surabi Ikan (Fish Surabi). This community service program aims to improve child nutrition, empower local communities, especially women's groups such as the PKK Mobilization Team of Tellumpanua Village, and create new business opportunities. The project focuses on raising awareness about nutritious snacks, transferring technology for making Surabi Ikan, and encouraging the emergence of new healthy food-based entrepreneurs at the household level. The methodology includes location and technology preparation, technology transfer through training on making Surabi Ikan, training and assistance in product management and marketing, and monitoring and evaluation. The program seeks to leverage the abundant fish resources in Barru Regency to improve the quality of children's snacks while promoting sustainable community-based solutions, combining traditional cultural elements with nutritious local ingredients to address malnutrition, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to the overall well-being of the community in Tellumpanua.
