Abstract

Title: The Design of Buildings and Restaurant Facilities that are Family Friendly and Relevant to the Urban Culture of Denpasar   The urban community's demand to bring families to visit restaurants is significantly high. The on-site phenomenon indicates that the building designs of several restaurants in Denpasar have not maximally met the needs of the urban community, especially for families. Therefore, research is required to analyze restaurants' facilities and building designs to align with the needs of families and urban culture in Denpasar. The method employed is a qualitative descriptive method. The research results showcase the case study objects of several favorite restaurants in Denpasar, indicating that some already meet the needs of the urban community but need to be adjusted to align with current needs. The findings show that some restaurants are not in line with urban culture due to insufficient attention to the needs of the urban community. Issues related to spatial completeness and arrangement, availability of specific facilities, furniture design, and cleanliness of facilities contribute to this mismatch. The solution is to consider standard design, space, and security to meet needs, provide specific facilities, and implement the concept of green design. The contribution provided is in the form of input to ensure that restaurants are designed to adapt to the evolving needs of the urban community.

Abstract

Bali is very rich with traditions that contain local wisdom values. The tradition in Bali is still preserved until now. This tradition has a strong foundation because it is supported by the beliefs and beliefs of Balinese Hinduism, one of which is the meburu tradition can be trusted to neutralize the influence of negative energy into strength and positive energy. The meburu tradition is a means of purifying Bhuana Alit and Bhuana Agung to be balanced between humans, nature and their environment, both in the sekala realm and in the niskala realms. At present, there are still many people who do not know about the phenomenon created by the concept of sacred space that forms traditions, unique rituals, and the magic of meburu carried out by the people of Panjer Traditional Village. What is the real meaning that can be found from every procession behind all the ritual thoughts, structures, and beliefs that have been carried out continuously so far. This study aims to explore and examine the social values, cultural values, and religious values contained in the meburu tradition, and analyze the implications of the values contained therein. The method used in this study is a qualitative exploration with theological, historical and philosophical approaches. The results of the study found that the series of meburu traditions began with making ceremonial offerings, Ida Bhatara heading to paum/meetings at Bale Agung Temple, melasti, ngembang, meprani, tawur agung panca sata, meburu tradition, and penyimpenan. The foundation in mythology has become a strong foundation in carrying out the religious beliefs of the Panjer Traditional Village community so that the existence of the meburu tradition can remain stable because it is packaged into mythical beliefs. The meburu tradition can maintain cultural values, social values, and religious values that have been passed down from generation to generation in the past to the present so that they remain stable and sustainable. Preserving the meburu tradition can have implications for Hindu devotion, attitudes and ethics, as well as implications for togetherness and cooperation, religious behavior and ethics.

Abstract

Many temples in Bali have been renovated without regard to their historical value, resulting in many new forms, ornaments, and materials even though the temple as a cultural heritage has cultural, social, and religious values. This research aimed to examine the reasons and process of restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa (Village Temple) and Pura Puseh (Puseh Temple) of Denpasar Traditional Village and analyze the restoration implementation implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village. This research used qualitative methods through a case study and ethnographic approach. The results showed that the causal factors in Denpasar Traditional Village restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh were due to a shared understanding of the importance of the traces and historical values in the temple building. It was outlined in the Perarem (rules) regarding the procedures for the temple repair process, and the community understands the importance of Denpasar’s identity value. The restoration stages and process of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village began with the planning process, identification of building form and damage, technical document preparations, procurement of construction workers, restoration implementation, and periodic supervision. The restoration process was accompanied by a series of Balinese Hindu ritual processes, namely Nuntun, Ngeruak, Mendem Pedagingan, Ngingsirang Pretime, and Ngeteg Linggih ceremonies. The restoration implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village could provide cultural significance, such as aesthetic, social, and religious values, with substantial cultural and symbolic capital.

Abstract

Traditional markets in Bali reflect the richness of local culture closely related to people's daily lives. Along with the times and demands for progress, these markets are transforming through the modernization of architectural and interior design. This modernization impacts local cultural heritage, changing how people interact with markets and the traditional values that Balinese people have long upheld. Therefore, research on the transformation of local cultural values in the modernization of architectural and interior design in traditional Balinese markets becomes relevant to understanding the implications and evaluating the preservation and adjustment efforts needed to maintain a unique cultural identity. The main focus is on changes in building design that influence the user experience of the building and the sustainability of cultural heritage as well as providing insight into emerging challenges and opportunities as well as an understanding of efforts to preserve local cultural values. This study will use a qualitative methodology to investigate changes in aesthetic and cultural dimensions. The results of this study demonstrate that cultural values change due to modern buildings being constructed in Bali's traditional marketplaces. The building's modernization has an impact on everyday activities, including the waning of the bargaining culture, the consumer behavior when visiting the upper floors, the traders' behavior regarding the interior conditions of the market, the culture that elevates buyers to the status of kings, and the transactional atmosphere typical of traditional markets. The contribution involves active participation from local communities with solutions in the form of efforts to maintain cultural heritage that can be aligned with implementing innovations that have a positive impact. By involving traders and market owners, solutions can be found to modernize facilities while maintaining local cultural values.

Abstract

The rise of urban culture and flexible work trends has redefined cafés as alternative workspaces, prompting the need for interior designs that are both sustainable and adaptive. However, many café environments still lack a holistic integration of local cultural values and emerging technologies to support prolonged, productive work. This study proposes a sustainable interior design model for urban cafés that combines cultural identity with innovative technological solutions to enhance user comfort. Using a qualitative methodology, the research involved field observations, semi-structured interviews, ergonomic evaluations, and digital environmental simulations, conducted in Renon, Denpasar—a vibrant urban area in Bali. Results indicate that incorporating cultural elements, such as material patterns, spatial layouts, and symbolic aesthetics, along with bright lighting, efficient ventilation, and ergonomic furniture, significantly improves functionality and user well-being. Users identified key comfort factors including lighting, furniture design, zoning, acoustics, and air quality. The study emphasizes the need for an interdisciplinary approach that fuses design engineering, local culture, and intelligent systems to create flexible, user-centered environments. Nine integrative design strategies are proposed to support both work productivity and cultural resonance. These findings provide practical insights for architects, designers, and café developers seeking to create meaningful and adaptable spaces in tropical urban settings. On a broader scale, the research contributes to the global discourse on non-traditional workspace design by presenting a replicable framework that aligns with sustainable urban development and the evolving work dynamics of the digital era.

Abstract

The integration of futuristic design with sustainable culture and the creative economy offers a transformative paradigm in the development of commercial architecture. This study examines the Dekkson Knowledge Shop as a case study to explore how material technology innovation can address environmental challenges while reinforcing cultural identity and strengthening market competitiveness. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research utilizes field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis to investigate the application of high-performance materials and their interpretation within architectural narratives. The findings highlight that the use of eco-friendly composite panels, fiber-cement boards, and adaptive lighting systems not only enhances energy efficiency and durability but also embeds Balinese cultural values within a futuristic aesthetic framework. A key novelty of this research lies in positioning material technology as a narrative medium that connects modern innovation with cultural sustainability, rather than perceiving it solely as a structural element. This integration enriches user experience, strengthens brand identity, and supports the creative economy by transforming architectural design into a cultural and economic asset. Furthermore, the study proposes a replicable design model for future commercial projects that harmonizes sustainable material innovation with local narratives. The model provides both theoretical contributions to architectural discourse and practical strategies for sustainable design practices applicable in a global context. Through this approach, the research underscores the importance of balancing technological advancement with cultural preservation, thereby establishing commercial architecture as a medium for sustainable innovation, cultural continuity, and economic resilience.
