Abstract

The increasing significance of English as a global lingua franca underscores the need for effective early language education strategies. This study examines English teachers' strategies in implementing the Montessori method at Bale Anak Lombok Montessori School to enhance pre-schoolers' vocabulary acquisition and address pedagogical challenges. Employing a qualitative descriptive case study design, data were collected through non-participatory classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with two teachers, and document analysis. Findings reveal that the Three-Period Lesson—a core Montessori strategy—was pivotal in introducing vocabulary through structured progression, using tangible materials and interactive activities to foster engagement and retention. Supplementary strategies included storytelling, songs with movements, and gamified activities, which addressed young learners' developmental needs and short attention spans. Articulation challenges were mitigated through repetition and individualized observation, while parent involvement reinforced learning consistency at home. The study highlights the Montessori method's alignment with constructivist principles, emphasizing hands-on, child-centered learning that supports holistic development. These findings suggest that integrating interactive, multisensory approaches can significantly enhance early language education. Implications include the need for professional training to adapt Montessori principles effectively and for future research to explore their application in diverse educational and cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation process, focusing on teaching methods, challenges encountered, and outcomes achieved. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of lesson plans and teaching materials. Findings reveal that while teachers employ innovative strategies to engage students, their efforts are constrained by insufficient training and limited institutional support. Student engagement and comprehension vary, influenced by both instructional methods and the learning environment. The findings suggest that enhancing teacher training programs, providing adequate resources, and fostering collaboration among educators and stakeholders can significantly improve the effectiveness of the local content curriculum. Policymakers must prioritize systemic support to address challenges and ensure English instruction contributes effectively to students' language development and academic success.

Abstract

This study examines the efforts of Mover Teachers in Sumbawa Besar City to implement digital literacy principles in line with the Independent Curriculum. Using a multi-case study approach, it reveals that while teachers are adept at using basic digital tools like Zoom and Google Classroom, they struggle with integrating more advanced platforms like Google Docs and data analytics tools. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and peer collaboration are key enablers, with training workshops fostering innovative teaching practices. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited internet access, and inconsistent high-level training hinder broader adoption. Teachers also face difficulties managing digital classrooms and developing students' critical assessment skills, highlighting the need for targeted professional development. Grounded in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory and Bandura's social learning theory, the study emphasizes the importance of scaffolding and collaborative learning to enhance digital competencies. Addressing these barriers is essential for equitable and effective curriculum implementation, equipping educators and students with 21st-century skills for a digitally connected world.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of digital literacy resources by teachers in two selected schools in Sumbawa, representing urban and rural areas, by exploring the types of digital literacy resources used, teachers' preferences, and the reasons behind their choices. Grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Fred Davis, which suggests that teachers tend to prioritize Perceived Usefulness (PU) over Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU). This study employs a qualitative method with a case study design. Data collection involved triangulation techniques, including interviews, observations, and document analysis, to ensure data accuracy and reduce bias. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings reveal that Davis's theory applies only in specific contexts. The teachers in the urban school were found to prioritize PU over PEOU, utilizing a variety of digital literacy resources, although some demonstrated limited use due to age and technology stuttering. Conversely, the teachers in the rural school prioritized PEOU over PU due to a lack of training, the absence of integration policies, and limited initiatives to incorporate digital literacy resources into teaching.

Abstract

Abstract

This research concerns how Pancasila Student Profile character education policy is implemented in the practice of teaching English at Junior High School 5 Kopang and how the characteristics/figures of character education are integrated and what problems teachers have been facing. The qualitative descriptive approach for this study was achieved by observation, interviews, and questionnaires with the full implementation picture. Some key findings from the study include the elements of the vital Pancasila student profile fitting the British teacher practice-namely, faith and devotion to God, noble character, cooperation, and independence. Therefore, it will definitely make a contribution to implementing curricular studies that incorporate these values, which in turn make sure of the wholistic development in students in relation to Pancasila principles. On the other hand, major challenges singled out to the effective implementation of those attributes for character education include newness of curricula, lack of enough training, and diversity among the students. Teachers are still internalizing the content of the curriculum, for example, at the same time, necessary training is still to be delivered. Moreover, the heterogeneous experiences of students and value learned make it more complicated to implement it. This sucks the success and difficulties right from the professors hence giving a reflection on what works and what does not work in explicit strategies. These results contributed to an increase in character education policy and practice in Indonesian schools so that these types of initiatives could be implemented and maintained more effectively. In the final analysis, these researches will help the researchers form a student with integral personalities with the values of Pancasila that can provide benefits for the society.

Abstract

This research explores the rhetorical strategies employed by Jim Kwik, a motivational speaker and memory coach, focusing on his YouTube and podcast content. Grounded in classical and digital rhetoric theories, this study investigates how Kwik constructs digital ethos, pathos, and logos through verbal performance, sound cues, and narrative techniques. The article integrates Cicero's classical oratory principles, Aristotle's persuasive appeals, and Eyman's digital rhetoric framework to analyze Kwik's communication methods. Using a qualitative narrative approach and thematic analysis, five podcast episodes from "Kwik Brain" (2022–2024) were analyzed to assess how rhetorical devices engage audiences and promote cognitive empowerment. The study finds that Kwik's multimodal rhetoric is characterized by accessible logic, emotional storytelling, and personal credibility. His hybrid use of motivational and commercial discourse highlights both the transformative potential and ethical ambiguity of digital persuasion. This research offers insights into how digital rhetoric operates in contemporary motivational media and provides a framework for evaluating persuasive communication in informal learning environments.

Abstract

In higher education, critical thinking plays a vital role in shaping students’ analytical and reflective abilities, particularly through academic writing which serves as both a learning tool and an assessment method. Recognizing its importance, this study investigated the critical thinking skills of English Department students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Mataram, as reflected in their academic writing. The study aimed to assess the level of students’ critical thinking skills, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and explore the factors that influence their critical thinking development. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-method design, quantitative data were first collected through IELTS aligned academic writing tasks from 45 fourth semester students, followed by qualitative interviews to gain deeper insights into their reasoning processes and writing challenges. Quantitative findings indicated that students reached a general intermediate level of critical thinking, in which they exhibited relative strength in task response and coherence but consistent weakness in grammar and vocabulary use. Comparative outcomes indicated that Class G outperformed consistently Class H on key performance indicators. Qualitative findings also revealed that while students were able to use evidence and reason, they lacked analytical depth, integration of sources, and structural composition in argument construction. Lecturers' feedback, peer interaction, and self-regulation were identified as key factors supporting students' critical thinking development. The study concludes that academic writing can serve as an effective medium for developing students’ critical thinking skills when supported by explicit instruction, rubric-based feedback, and collaborative learning activities. It highlights the need for continuous pedagogical innovation to strengthen students’ ability to think critically and express their ideas effectively in academic contexts.
