Abstract

One way to promote local wisdom values is to integrate them into learning in schools, particularly in Lombok where there are some valuable local wisdom which could be integrated into English textbooks. This research aims to integrate Lombok's local wisdom values into English language teaching, particularly for junior high school level to strengthen students' character and identity to face future challenges. This research employed a Research and Development approach to produce local wisdom-based textbooks with a total population and sample of 72 students who are divided into 12 groups based on the units in each textbook which are developed. Meanwhile, the practicality of the teaching materials was assessed by 2 lecturers who taught the Textbook and Material Development course, while the object of this research was the English teaching materials for junior high school level that would be developed. So far, there has never been any action to develop materials by integrating local wisdom in the form of folk tales, especially on the island of Lombok, into reading material in textbooks. This research reveals that some important characteristics obtained from Lombok's local wisdom values that can be integrated into English language learning, they are religious, tolerant and egalitarian. Religious character becomes the foundation of other characters. These different characters can be integrated into the teaching and learning process. In the teaching process, teachers adjust teaching steps by instilling religiosity, tolerant and egalitarian values, while, materials are equipped with a teacher's book which provides direction to teachers, especially regarding the interpretation of local wisdom values so that they comply with competency standards and basic competencies in the curriculum which is currently being implemented in Indonesia. Keywords: English textbooks, local wisdom, religion, tolerant, egalitarian.

Abstract

The Mandi Safar tradition has been an integral part of the cultural landscape in Baru village, located in the Obi subdistrict of South Halmahera regency. This ritual symbolizes self-purification through immersion in the river, representing a quest for divine protection and the desire to be spared from calamities and misfortunes. Nevertheless, some community members perceive this practice as a bid'ah, or innovation, that contradicts Islamic principles. Despite these differing views, the researcher identifies that the Mandi Safar tradition is valued by many as it significantly strengthens social bonds among villagers. This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of the efforts undertaken by the Baru village community to preserve the Mandi Safar tradition as a means to cultivate social care and solidarity among its citizens. Employing a qualitative research design with a case study approach, the findings reveal that the Mandi Safar tradition is executed in two key stages: (a) the Preparation stage, which entails gathering necessary materials such as paper, pencils, banana leaves, coconut leaves, and food; and (b) the Execution stage, which encompasses the journey to the ritual site, recitation of prayers, communal meals, and the Mandi Safar ritual itself. The Mandi Safar tradition embodies essential social values, including togetherness, affection, and harmony. These values play a crucial role in reinforcing kinship ties within the community and fostering a spirit of social caring among villagers. This study highlights the enduring significance of the Mandi Safar tradition in enhancing communal identity and social cohesion within the Baru village community.

Abstract

This study examines the efforts of Mover Teachers in Sumbawa Besar City to implement digital literacy principles in line with the Independent Curriculum. Using a multi-case study approach, it reveals that while teachers are adept at using basic digital tools like Zoom and Google Classroom, they struggle with integrating more advanced platforms like Google Docs and data analytics tools. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and peer collaboration are key enablers, with training workshops fostering innovative teaching practices. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited internet access, and inconsistent high-level training hinder broader adoption. Teachers also face difficulties managing digital classrooms and developing students' critical assessment skills, highlighting the need for targeted professional development. Grounded in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory and Bandura's social learning theory, the study emphasizes the importance of scaffolding and collaborative learning to enhance digital competencies. Addressing these barriers is essential for equitable and effective curriculum implementation, equipping educators and students with 21st-century skills for a digitally connected world.

Abstract

Sexual harassment in educational institutions has long been a global concern. Various studies on sexual violence have been carried out, but research on personality, power, and moral disengagement, which are associated with sexual harassment behavior among students in higher education, was still limited. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the influence of personality, power, and moral disengagement on sexual harassment behavior among students in higher education. This research involved 403 students from 5 universities in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis to test the influence of each variable. According to the research's findings, moral disengagement, and personality both have a direct impact on sexual harassment. In addition, moral disengagement has been proven to be able to mediate between power and sexual harassment. The results of this research provide important implications for public policy makers in higher education, practitioners, researchers, and the public in identifying factors of sexual harassment among students in higher education.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential competency for prospective science educators in understanding scientific concepts, applying scientific methods, and making decisions based on scientific evidence. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Ecotourism-Based Field Practicum Model (MPLBE) in improving the scientific literacy of prospective biology teacher students. The subjects of the study were students of the Biology Education study program, FKIP, Mataram University, who took the vertebrate Zoology course. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group used the MPLBE model that focused on the study of ecology and conservation of the Megapodius reinwardt bird in the Gunung Tunak and Kerandangan Nature Tourism Parks, while the control group followed conventional practicums in the laboratory. The research instrument was a scientific literacy test that had been validated by experts. Quantitative analysis was performed on the effectiveness of the model using N-Gain and the Mann-Whitney Test. The results of the data analysis showed a significant difference in the increase in scientific literacy scores between the experimental and control groups. These findings indicate that the MPLBE model is effective in improving students' scientific literacy. This model not only strengthens the understanding of biological concepts contextually, but also builds environmental awareness and scientific thinking skills of prospective biology teachers. This study recommends the integration of ecotourism in biology learning as an innovative approach based on local potential.
