Abstract

Beauty privilege, the social advantage gained through physical attractiveness, is becoming increasingly prevalent in various sectors such as employment, education, social media, and daily interactions, where individuals who meet conventional beauty standards often receive preferential treatment. This study explores beauty privilege through the lens of Islamic teachings, particularly the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), to understand its relevance in Islam. While Islam emphasizes that piety (taqwa) and noble character are the true measures of a person’s worth, it also acknowledges the importance of maintaining cleanliness, wearing good clothes for Friday prayers, using siwak, and caring for personal grooming, especially in front of one’s spouse. These teachings highlight that while outward appearance is not the ultimate criterion for virtue, it is still important in maintaining dignity and self-respect. The research argues that beauty should not be the sole determinant of a person’s value, but it should not be entirely disregarded either. A balanced perspective is needed, one that values inner virtues while encouraging self-care and presentability. Through prophetic traditions, this study provides insights into how beauty and character can be harmonized in Islam, calling for a fairer social perspective that avoids superficial judgment and values both inner and outer qualities. Islam promotes a balance between inner and outer beauty.

Abstract

Integrating the concept of Islamic Religious Education into the realities of modern life is a crucial area of study. This article aims to examine traditions concerning the relationship between Islamic values, ethics, and the development of science and technology. The research employs a literature-based approach, analyzing traditions related to integrative learning from the perspective of hadith. Integrative learning refers to an educational approach that connects various disciplines into a unified theme or combines one field of knowledge with others in a coherent and comprehensive manner. From the perspective of hadith, this model of learning is not only relevant but also deeply rooted in Islamic teachings. The hadiths examined in this study indicate that Islam promotes holistic models of education that emphasize harmonious relationships between teachers and students, interdisciplinary integration, and the continuity between classical and modern sciences. This demonstrates that Islam is not conservative but rather open and responsive to advancements in general science and technology. Through this approach, integrative learning based on hadith is expected to nurture insan kamil individuals who are intellectually capable, morally upright, spiritually grounded, and able to contribute meaningfully to society.

Abstract

The establishment of universal standards embedded in hadith—framed as legal objectives—underwent a process of generalization, wherein their function served to justify Qur'anic content. Consequently, the primary role of hadith as a lawmaker and moral guide was marginalized in discourses on goal-based (maqāṣid) development. This study seeks to identify a systematic method for interpreting hadith by drawing on the standards of its discursive construction, which accounts for the Prophet’s flexible role as a discourse producer. To this end, the study employs a qualitative methodology grounded in constructive grounded theory. It finds that the discourse of hadith transmission—centered on the conveyance of meaning—necessitates a model of textual verification (taḥqīq al-naṣṣ) as its core component. This mechanism involves tracing variant hadiths on the same theme to discern differences in editorial structure that influence their core and relational meanings. In turn, it facilitates the identification of interpretive models for key words and particles that convey meaning. Textual composition further demands a comprehensive examination of legal practices within the earliest recipient community to establish standards for means and ends. The application of these methodological standards yields a novel interpretive framework for hadiths concerning the creation of humans in God’s image. Specifically, the analysis of word patterns in their general and particular forms reveals an intentional prohibition on depicting the face, aimed at preserving human honor and dignity as God’s creations. Ultimately, clarifying these means and purposes creates space for innovative prohibition models that prevent fictitious or verbal acts degrading any aspect symbolizing humanity.

Abstract

This research explores Ibn Jauzi's criticism of the hadiths in Abu Dawood's Sunan, followed by al-Suyuti's defense. The hadiths deemed maud'u (fabricated) by Ibn Jauzi are documented in his work titled "al-Maudu’at libni al-Jauzi," which is then refuted by al-Suyuti in his writing titled "Alai al-Manu’ah Fi al-Ahadithu al-Maudu’ah." The research methodology employed is literature study, where all information is derived from relevant written sources directly or indirectly related to the topic. The selected hadiths for the study are referenced from their original sources. After conducting the analysis, the researcher identified several hadiths in Sunan Abu Dawood deemed maud'u or false according to Ibn Jauzi, and these criticisms are countered by al-Suyuti in his work "Alai al-Manu’ah Fi al-Ahadithu al-Maudu’ah." Based on the research findings, Ibn Jauzi critiques hadiths in Sunan Abu Dawood, focusing on a maud'u hadith involving three chains, including Ibn Abbas, with errors in the chain, strengthened by Imam Zarkashi. The second criticism relates to the inauthenticity of the hadith due to the involvement of the narrator 'Ammar, whom Ibn Jauzi accuses of lying. Al-Suyuti defends this hadith, stating that 'Ammar did not narrate it personally, and there are other chains supporting its validity. Al-Suyuti's third response indicates that Imam Bukhari also narrated the hadith, even including it in the chapter on etiquette in "al-Adab al-Mufrad," acknowledging its authenticity.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of dark jokes among adolescents reflects a shift in their understanding of humor, particularly humor involving sensitive topics that may provoke diverse reactions. This study aims to examine the practice and reception of dark jokes among adolescents by reviewing the ethics of joking in hadith and analyzing it through a cognitive psychology perspective to understand the mental processes underlying adolescents’ evaluation of humor. This research employed a qualitative approach using a literature review of sources related to hadith on the etiquette of joking, humor theories, and fundamental concepts of cognitive psychology concerning adolescent perception and emotional responses. The findings indicate that dark jokes are commonly used by adolescents to lighten the atmosphere, strengthen peer relationships, or express psychological pressure, although they may also potentially offend or harm others. These practices are not fully aligned with the ethical principles of joking in the hadith, which emphasize mindfulness in speech and the avoidance of causing emotional harm. From a cognitive psychology perspective, this discrepancy can be attributed to adolescents’ still-developing cognitive abilities, particularly in considering the social impact of their statements. This study highlights the importance of humor literacy that integrates ethical awareness and an understanding of adolescent cognitive development, enabling humor to be used more wisely and responsibly within social interactions.
