Abstract

The internet offers numerous features that simplify activities like communication, information retrieval, and transactions, making social media increasingly accessible. In Indonesia, individuals in their productive years, particularly early adulthood, dominate internet usage. This phase is characterized by repetitive behaviors, which can escalate the intensity of social media use and potentially lead to addiction. One factor influencing this tendency is alexithymia. This study aims to explore the impact of alexithymia on social media addiction tendencies among early adults in Karawang. Employing a quantitative causality design, the research utilized non-probability sampling, specifically snowball sampling, to gather data from 385 respondents aged 20-30 years residing in Karawang. The Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) was used to measure alexithymia, while the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) assessed social media addiction tendencies. Reliability was tested using Cronbach's Alpha, with a threshold of > 0.08, while normality was evaluated through the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test at a 5% significance level. Linearity was assessed using an ANOVA test, yielding a significance of 0.468 > 0.05. The results of the simple linear regression test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming the hypothesis that alexithymia significantly influences social media addiction tendencies in early adulthood in Karawang. The determination test results indicated that alexithymia accounts for 54.2% of the variance in social media addiction tendencies (R-Square = 0.542), with the remaining 45.8% attributed to other variables not examined in this study.

Abstract

In the context of increasing mental health concerns among university students, understanding professional help-seeking behavior has become increasingly important. This study examined the relationships among mental health literacy, self-stigma, stigma of mental illness, social support, and professional help-seeking behavior among Indonesian college students experiencing psychological difficulties. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 408 participants recruited through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using JASP version 0.19.1, applying a regression-based model to examine direct, mediating, and moderating effects. Mental health literacy was tested as a mediator, while social support was examined as a moderator. The results indicated that mental health literacy was positively associated with professional help-seeking behavior. Stigma of mental illness was positively related to both mental health literacy and help-seeking, whereas self-stigma was not significantly associated with either variable. Mediation analysis showed that mental health literacy partially mediated the relationship between stigma of mental illness and help-seeking, but not between self-stigma and help-seeking. Social support did not significantly moderate the relationships between stigma variables and help-seeking behavior. These findings suggest that mental health literacy may represent one contributing factor associated with professional help-seeking among university students. However, given the cross-sectional design and modest explanatory power of the model, the results should be interpreted with caution. Future research is needed to further examine the underlying mechanisms of help-seeking behavior in this population.

In adolescence there are physical changes, such as rapid growth and increase in height, weight, hormonal changes, sexual maturity and increased function of the brain structure. This is a problem that is still felt especially by young women because these teenagers are starting to pay attention to and take an attitude towards their body and appearance. This can be seen from the beauty and body care products from the latest brands and the emergence of beauty and body care products specifically aimed at "teens" or young women, meaning that young women make an effort to take care of their bodies. Efforts to take care of this body certainly affect how teenagers judge or perceive their bodies, this is called body image. One of the factors forming body image is optimism. Optimism is a comprehensive view, in seeing good things, being able to think positively, and easily giving meaning to oneself. This research was conducted to find out whether there is an effect of optimism on body image in young women in Karawang Regency. The hypothesis put forward is that there is an effect of optimism on body image with the assumption that the higher the optimism, the more positive the body image the individual has. The research method used by researchers is a quantitative research method with a sample of 100 young women living in Karawang, data analysis techniques used by researchers are normality test, linearity test, hypothesis test (simple linear regression test), coefficient of determination test and categorization test with the help of SPSS 25.0 software for Windows. The results of this study's data analysis show that there is an influence of optimism on body image in young women in Karawang with a Sig value of 0.003 (p <0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of self-control and conformity on the tendency of bullying among adolescents in Karawang Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach with a causal design. The sample consisted of 204 adolescents aged 12–18 years, selected using a convenience sampling technique. The instruments used were the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire (OBVQ-R), the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), and the Conformity Scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The partial test results showed that the significance value of X1 was 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that Ha1 was accepted and H01 was rejected, meaning that self-control has an influence on the tendency of bullying. The significance value of X2 was 0.027 < 0.05, indicating that Ha2 was accepted and H02 was rejected, meaning that conformity has an influence on the tendency of bullying. The simultaneous test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that Ha3 was accepted and H03 was rejected, which means that self-control and conformity jointly influence the tendency of bullying. The findings demonstrated that the significance value was 0.000 (p < 0.05), meaning that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Thus, self-control and conformity significantly influence the tendency of bullying. The effect size of 13.1% indicates that these two variables together are able to explain the variation in the tendency of bullying.

Abstract

Individuals from divorced families have a higher risk compared to those from intact families when entering adulthood. These individuals tend to feel less secure in forming attachments with others during early adulthood. This study aims to examine the adult attachment patterns of early adults with divorced parents in Karawang Regency. This descriptive quantitative research involves 100 early adults in Karawang, using non-probability sampling. Data collection was conducted through an online questionnaire distribution. Adult attachment was measured using the Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS) with a Likert scale from 1 to 5. The results show that the dominant attachment type is anxiety attachment, held by 51% of early adults with divorced parents, followed by depend on attachment (26%) and close attachment (23%). Hypothesis testing reveals no significant differences between gender and attachment patterns, but there are significant differences between the age groups of 20-25 years (transition from adolescence to adulthood) and 26-40 years (early adulthood), as well as between the age at which parents divorced, specifically early childhood (2-6 years) and late childhood (7-12 years). No significant differences were found based on relationship status (dating, engaged, or married). These findings suggest that anxiety attachment patterns are more prevalent in individuals who experienced parental divorce at a younger age, and both age and parental divorce experiences influence early adulthood attachment patterns.

Abstract

Loneliness among social media users is often associated with dissatisfaction with real-life social relationships, which may encourage individuals to seek alternative forms of connection in virtual environments. One such phenomenon is the use of roleplay accounts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where users construct virtual relationships such as romantic partners, families, or friendship networks. This study aimed to analyze the influence of perceived social support and fear of missing out (FoMO) on loneliness among roleplay account users. A quantitative research approach with a correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 385 roleplay account users on social media platform X, selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected using standardized instruments, namely the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS). Data analysis was conducted using multiple regression analysis to examine both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables on loneliness. The results indicated that social support and fear of missing out each had a significant partial effect on loneliness, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, social support and FoMO simultaneously influenced loneliness, accounting for 48% of the variance. Higher levels of perceived social support were associated with lower levels of loneliness, while higher levels of FoMO were associated with increased loneliness. These findings suggest that although roleplay communities may provide a sense of belonging, psychological factors such as social support and FoMO remain critical determinants of loneliness. This study highlights the importance of strengthening perceived social support and managing FoMO to reduce loneliness among roleplay account users in online social environments.

Abstract

Individuals with a history of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) frequently utilize self-harm as a maladaptive coping mechanism, largely due to severe difficulties in emotion regulation. This vulnerability is particularly pronounced during emerging adulthood, a developmental period characterized by significant psychosocial transitions. Consequently, this study aims to examine the simultaneous and partial influence of family functioning and self-compassion on emotion regulation among emerging adults with a history of NSSI in Karawang Regency, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative cross-sectional correlational design, the study recruited a sample of 204 participants through convenience sampling. Data were collected using three standardized instruments: the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Short Form (DERS-SF), the McMaster Family Assessment Device-General Functioning Subscale (FAD-GF), and the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). The collected data were subsequently analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques via SPSS version 26. The findings indicated that, partially, family functioning did not significantly predict emotion regulation. In contrast, self-compassion emerged as a significant predictor. Collectively, both family functioning and self-compassion accounted for 19.1% of the total variance in emotion regulation among the participants. In conclusion, self-compassion serves as a more dominant protective factor in predicting emotion regulation for individuals with an NSSI history compared to family functioning. These findings suggest that clinical and psychological interventions tailored for this demographic should strongly prioritize fostering self-compassion to improve emotional resilience and reduce reliance on self-injurious behaviors.
