Abstract

Biomass estimation model can be derived from satellite imageries and field measurements. This study built the estimation model using Landsat 8 image. This study was conducted in Hutan Nagari Padang Limau Sundai Sangir Jujuan, South Solok District, West Sumatera Province. This study aimed to build biomass estimation model and to study distribution of biomass over forest area using digital number of bands 4, 5, 6 and Normalized-Difference of Vegetation Indeks (NDVI). Field biomass was estimated using allometric Ketterings (2001). The biomass estimation model were developed using regression analysis by relating field biomass value and digital number of Landsat 8 Imagery. Selection of the best model based on the highest R2adj value, the lowest standard deviation value, the lowest bias value, and the lowest Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Based on the result of model analysis to estimate biomass, obtained the best biomass estimate model, that is exponential model, Y = e (-27,40707 + 0,00461 X4 -0,00011 X5 - 0,00197 X6 + 50,79023 NDVI). The model selected based on the rating result had R2adj 78,8 %, standart deviation 0,227, bias 1,21 and RMSE 14,89.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the spatio-temporal changes in land surface temperature (LST) patterns in Jambi  City, Indonesia, between 2013 and 2024 using Landsat 8-9 OLI/TIRS imagery. The research employs thermal band analysis (bands 10 and 11) and geographical information systems to evaluate urban heat  island (UHI) effects across 68 sub-districts. Results demonstrate significant thermal    landscapetransformations, with surface temperatures expanding from 21.5-26.20°C in 2013 to 19.02-27.33°C  in 2024. Highly urbanized areas, particularly in Jambi Selatan, Jelutung, and Paal Merah districts, experienced the most substantial temperature increases (up to 1.13°C), while areas maintaining vegetation cover and proximity to water bodies showed remarkable thermal stability. The study reveals strong correlations between land use changes and temperature variations, with built-up areas exhibiting significantly higher temperatures compared to vegetated regions and water bodies. These findings provide crucial insights for urban planning and climate adaptation strategies, emphasizing the importance of preserving green spaces and water bodies as natural cooling mechanisms in rapidly developing tropical cities.

Abstract

Jujun Village is located in Kerinci Regency and is one of the Integrated Laboratory Villages fostered by Jambi University. Jujun Village is known to have the largest area in Keliling Danau District, and most of its residents work as farmers and have cultivated land. The agroforestry cropping pattern approach has begun to be carried out by the community, especially since the benefits of agroforestry for the community were explained again from an ecological and economic perspective. In the journey of the agroforestry system in Jujun Village, it is necessary to know what its contribution is to community income. Specifically, this study seeks to analyze the contribution of agroforestry to the income and welfare of farmers in Jujun Village. This study ran for 8 months from April to November 2024 and was carried out in Jujun Village. This study uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods with an analysis focused on farmers' income and welfare. The results of the study show that farmers have implemented agroforestry on their land with a combination of various types of agricultural and forestry crops. The analysis carried out provides an overview of the contribution of agroforestry to farmers' income in general with varying levels of contribution. The average contribution of agroforestry to total farmer income is 51.97%. The average contribution of agroforestry to total farmer income is 51.97%. Meanwhile, the level of farmer welfare ranges from almost poor (33.33%), sufficient (26.67%), to decent living (23.33%).

Abstract

The density of mangrove cover is one of the factors that influence changes in shoreline both accretion and abrasion. This study aims to determine the effect of changes in density of mangrove cover on shoreline changes in 1989-2018 in the Coastal Province of Jambi. The method used is the interpretation of Landsat satellite images in 1989, 2000 and 2018 using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and overlaying images to see shoreline changes and DSAS (Digital Shoreline Analysis System) to calculate the area of change. The results showed that there had been a change in shoreline both accretion and abrasion in several locations that had different mangrove densities in the period 1989-2018. The results showed that accretion occured in 6 locations with an average change of Kota Sebrang 771 m, Tungkal Ilir 240.65 m, Kuala Betara 153.73 m, Mendahara 167.78 m, Kuala Jambi 169.35 m and Nipah 57.3 m, while abrasion occurs at 2 locations with an average change in Sabak Timur -41.8 m and Sadu -36.55 m. Where in the 6 locations that had accretion, mangrove density dominantly was in a close-densed and moderate state and only a few are in a low-densed condition. Meanwhile, the 2 locations that had abrasion were in a moderate state and have a low density mangrove forest.
