Abstract

Game-based Learning (GBL) in science education can increase students' interest, motivation, and involvement in the process of learning, so a more in-depth study of GBL through bibliometric analysis is needed. This study aims to analyze research trends on the application GBL in science education through bibliometric analysis from 2021-2024. This study employed bibliometric analysis to examine 349 English-language journal articles published from 2021 to 2024, which were retrieved from the Scopus database. Using VOSviewer, the analysis involved co-occurrence and keyword mapping to identify emerging research themes and publication trends. The results obtained 62 articles for further analysis through bibliometric review and visualization using VOSviewer. The trend of GBL research grows yearly, potentially increasing the number of publications the following year. The majority of GBL-related articles appear in respected international journals. This is also the reason for the article's high citation count. Indonesia ranks second in terms of GBL research. The visualization findings between GBL and science education demonstrate that various keywords under investigation emerged in the previous year. This further indicates a topic worth investigating further. The analysis results are based on the study topic, research location, type of research, and applications utilized in GBL, providing an overview for future researchers to undertake a more in-depth examination of the data. The main findings show that GBL may enhance the learning results of students in the context of science, providing insights into effective learning strategies that educators can adopt. These findings are expected to be used to formulate more innovative and effective educational practices and serve as a basis for further research in this area.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills (CTS) are among the 21st-century skills needed. Preservice physics teachers need CTS to solve problems critically, not only in academics but also in life. This research offers a comprehensive perspective and understanding of critical thinking skills as a framework for measuring the ability of preservice physics teachers. The approach is qualitative with methodology analysis, and the documentary content produces a theoretical competence framework. Findings are then applied to determine CTS indicators' relevant competencies, such as clarity assumption, interpretation, analysis, reason, and evaluation. Preservice physics teachers can understand and use these results to evaluate CTS. The research emphasizes optimizing CTS for preservice physics teachers because education is increasingly complex and dynamic.

Abstract

This paper is based on Nurul Qadim Islamic Boarding School Paiton Probolinggo which has integrated salaf education and modern education. This Islamic boarding school combines yellow book-based education with the national curriculum and optimizes technology to improve the learning process. This study aims to analyze the efforts of Islamic boarding schools in maintaining the tradition of salaf education and adapting to the development of the times. The focus of this study is how this Islamic boarding school maintains traditional methods such as bandongan, sorogan, and memorizing yellow books, while integrating the national curriculum and technology. The research method used is a qualitative approach with case studies, through observation and analysis of Islamic boarding school curriculum documents. The results of this study indicate that Nurul Qadim Islamic Boarding School has succeeded in balancing religious traditions and the demands of modernity, making it an adaptive education model. This Islamic boarding school not only produces students who master religious knowledge, but are also ready to face global challenges with skills that are relevant in the modern era.

Abstract

Blended learning combines online and face-to-face, creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment. This article aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric literature review on "blended learning in science learning". Articles found with the Scopus database. There are 100 out of 449 articles found in the Scopus database from 2020 to 2024 analyzed in this study. The selected references were then managed using reference management software, namely Mendeley. After managing the database, these studies classified and visualized them using VOSviewer software. The results of this study are that the distribution of authors who research topics related to blended learning in science learning is still dominated by the United States and Indonesia. The gap in this study shows the future agenda's direction: blended learning in science learning is very important to study. Overall, teaching and learning activities using blended learning in science learning tend to increase yearly. This is also needed for more inter-regional research collaborations involving researchers from Asia and other developing countries in certain areas. Overall, this review provides a good reference point for further research on "blended learning in science learning".

Abstract

This study presents a Scopus-based bibliometric mapping of a decade of research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) in physics education, spanning the period from 2016 to 2025. The dataset was retrieved from Scopus on August 2, 2025, and, following PRISMA-style screening and filtering, comprised 1,038 English-language journal articles at the final publication stage. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny), VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel to examine publication growth, leading sources and authors, geographic and institutional contributions, collaboration patterns, and conceptual structures through keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping, and thematic evolution. The results indicate accelerated publication growth after 2019 and an interdisciplinary dissemination pattern across education- and technology-facing outlets. Conceptual mapping suggests that AI-related themes (e.g., adaptive and data-informed learning support) and AR-related themes (e.g., interactive visualization and representational learning) constitute the dominant pillars of the field, while physics-education-specific learning mechanisms (e.g., conceptual change, multi-representational reasoning, and inquiry/laboratory enactment) are unevenly foregrounded across clusters. Because this is a bibliometric study, the findings provide a structured overview of research patterns and thematic orientations rather than causal evidence of learning effectiveness, thereby informing future empirical and design-based studies that connect AI/AR developments to physics-education-specific learning mechanisms and implementation contexts.

Abstract

The lack of teaching modules designed to develop critical thinking skills has become a major obstacle to improving education quality in Indonesia. This study aims to produce a sound wave teaching module using the STEM-PBL approach, which will be assessed in terms of its validity and practicality. This development study uses the ADDIE model involving 32 eleventh-grade students of class XI 2 at SMAN 4 Banjarmasin as trial subjects. Data were collected through teaching module validation sheets and module implementation observation sheets. Data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively in a descriptive manner. Quantitative data were analyzed using average scores and then described qualitatively based on established categorization criteria. Expert and practitioner validation yielded average validity and reliability scores of 3.69 and 0.98, categorized as very valid and highly reliable. Additionally, observations of module implementation classified it as very practical. Therefore, the developed STEM-PBL module is considered feasible for physics learning.

Abstract

The often-abstract nature of direct current electricity concepts necessitates a learning model focused not only on theoretical mastery but also on developing students' practical skills. The integration of real and virtual laboratories within a guided inquiry framework offers the potential to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and their practical applications. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of guided inquiry-based physics instruction integrated with real and virtual laboratories on direct current electricity in fostering students’ science process skills. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design, involving a single class from a public senior high school in Banjarmasin. The research instruments consisted of a learning outcome test comprising five essay questions and an observation sheet for students’ science process skills. The analysis revealed an average N-gain score of 0.57, which falls into the moderate category. The highest proportion of learning objectives achieved was found in the indicator of understanding Kirchhoff’s First Law, with a score of 0.84. Furthermore, students’ science process skills showed improvement, with mean scores across three consecutive sessions of 3.39, 3.00, and 3.64. These findings indicate that guided inquiry-based instruction utilizing both real and virtual laboratories is effective in enhancing students’ learning outcomes while simultaneously fostering their science process skills. Thus, this approach has the potential to be implemented as an innovative strategy in physics instruction, particularly in the topic of direct current electricity.
