Abstract

Research on the comparison of the determination of proximate levels in coal using conventional gravimetric methods and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) through comparative tests has been carried out. This study aims to determine the comparison of the average analysis results using the t-test, the precision level of analysis results of each method using CV Horwitz, and the comparison of the precision level of the analysis results using the F test. Based on the results of the t-test showed a significant difference in the average analysis results between the two methods for all parameters. In the test using CV Horwitz for parameters of inherent moisture, volatile matter and fixed carbon using both methods and also ash content using the conventional gravimetric method was declared to meet the precision requirements, but for the ash content parameter using TGA instruments was stated otherwise. The F test for parameters of ash content and inherent moisture showed a significant difference in the precision level of the analysis results between the two methods, but for the parameters of volatile matter and fixed carbon was stated otherwise.

Abstract

Analysis of mercury (Hg) levels in river water using the cold vapor-atomic absorption spectrophotometry (CV-AAS) method has been carried out. The basic principle of determining Hg in several river water samples is carried out by means of Hg2+ ions being reduced by reductants Sn2+ into gaseous Hg0 atoms, and then the Hg0 atomic vapors were analyzed quantitatively by the CV-AAS method at a wavelength of 253.7 nm. The analytical performance of the measurements obtained was very good, indicated by the linearity value (r) = 0.991, the Quality Control (QC) value) Hg is below the standard, which is 10%, and the results of mesurement of Hg levels in water samples around range concentration was -1.0305 sampai -0.7328 ppb. These results indicate that the Hg level in river water, according to Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management, is below the threshold of the quality standard. Abstract

Fabrication and characterization of edible films from galactomannan nipah fruit (Nypa fruticans Wurmb) with the incorporation of methanol extract of tahongai leaf (Kleinhovia hospita L.) as an antioxidant has been conducted. This study aims to determine the best concentration of methanol extract of tahongai leaves to increase the antioxidant activity of edible films using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results showed that the edible film containing galactomannan 1.5%, glycerol 25% and methanol extract of tahongai leaves with concentrations of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% showed antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 224.02 mg/L, 215.82 mg/L, 153.51 mg/L, 129.48 mg/L and 107.87 mg/L respectively. The concentration of incorporation of methanol extract of tahongai leaves to produce the best edible film is 3% which increases antioxidant activity when compared to edible films without incorporation with properties having a moisture content of 15.04%, thickness of 0.21 mm, water vapor transmission of 43.70 g/m2/hour and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis showed the surface morphology was homogeneous and slightly rough. The research of silica gel manufacturing from cane pulp cinders (Saccharum Officinarum) and the application for Cu (II) ion adsorption has been done. The adsorption of Cu (II) ion done by some variaties, such as pH, concentration, and contact time. The result of the research shows the optimum of pH was 8, concentration optimum was 8 ppm, and contact time was 75 minutes. The perecentage of recovery was 90,28%, shows the effectivity of silica gel from cane pulp cinders can be applicated for adsorption Cu (II) ion.

Abstract

Glucomannan extracted from porang tubers (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume) can be used as a raw material for made edible films. In this research, extraction of glucomannan with graded ethanol method resulted in a yield of 10% and the composition of the edible film forming solution used was 6% glucomannan porang tubers and 25% (w/w) glycerol. The resulted edible film was clear and transparent with the characteristics tested are water content, thickness and water vapor transmission respectvely 20.16%, 0.15 m2 and 22.89 g/m2/hour. Based on the results of SEM analysis showed that the surface of the edible film of glucomannan porang tubers, the morphology of the surface was somewhat smooth but still less homogeneous. So, efforts are still needed to improve the characteristics so that to acording the required standards Keywords: Preparation, edible film, glucomannan, porang tubers

Abstract

Traditional medicine is a supplement that can help maintain a healthy body which is produced from ingredients or ingredients derived from plants, so that it is still in great demand by the public because it is considered safe. Traditional medicinal preparations themselves are not allowed to contain Medicinal Chemicals (BKO). However, along with the increasing public interest, this has led to the circulation of traditional medicines containing BKO in order to obtain products with the fastest/ most effective effects. One of the chemical drugs that are often found are coffeine and paracetamol. This study aims to identify the medicinal chemicals of coffeine and paracetamol in traditional medicine using a solid phase extraction method which is then followed by high performance liquid chromatography with a photo diode array detector. The results obtained were that the coffeine standard produced a retention time of 5.791 with a wavelength of 206 nm and 272 nm while the paracetamol standard produced a retention time of 4.372 with a wavelength of 196 nm and 246 nm. The results of the analysis showed that the samples in the form of traditional medicines did not contain the medicinal chemicals coffeine and paracetamol Keywords: Coffeina, Paracetamol, Medicinal Chemicals, Traditional Medicine
