This community engagement is implemented as result of research dissemination on EFL teaching reading. This paper attempts to assist senior high school teachers in implementing the teaching of reading using collaborative Pamanpintermu reading software in EFL classroom. The mentoring program was conducted for six weeks at SMAM Bungah Gresik. Mentoring and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) is employed for the method of the community engagement. The results of Pamanpintermu implementation in the teaching and learning of EFL reading showed positive response from both teachers and students. Through Pamanpintermu, the teachers could monitor students’ reading progress and they could more effectively address students’ problems in reading class. In the long-term program, it is hoped that Pamanpintermu can be integrated in EFL curriculum at Senior High School in Gresik.

Abstract

This article discussed how to bridge communication between international students studying at host universities in other countries through digital literacy practices and is a model for global social interaction. This article also investigates the use of English proficiency, specifically for students in Indonesia and Thailand via online platform. It is based on semi structure interviews synchronously and asynchronously conducted with international students in both countries. The article focuses on five international students studying abroad from five different countries. This article uses an ethnography case study which describes some images from the results and findings in greater depth. The findings indicate the reasons for analysis and effectiveness in moving literacy practice toward digitalization for L2 students. These findings suggest that new literacy learning is rapidly evolving with advanced technology, necessitating the use of a high-speed Internet connection. This study contributes to language planning as L2 based on ethnography which has also been adapted into digital literacy for Thai and Indonesian students. In addition, this research's contribution is to give some people more about the importance of digital literacy practices, especially for an institution that has international students in teaching and learning. The authors' focus is on their personal experiences with digital literacy practices

Abstract

This conceptual article addresses the crucial issue of out-class collaborative learning as understood and practiced among most EFL Indonesian students. With the popularity of collaborative learning among EFL students, collaborative learning in secondary as well as tertiary education has been largely influenced by group competition and product-based assessment. As a result, the dishonesty of collaborative learning occurs because of the absence of process-based approaches during out-class collaboration. This article elaborates the cause and practices of “You do the task and I will present it” as a form of collaborative learning. This article highlights the causes and effects of the deceitful collaborative learning process as well as proposes valuable recommendations for proper collaborative learning activities. Finally, the article proposed a collaborative learning model using a universal collaboration approach to overcome the deceitful practices of out-class collaborative learning.

Abstract

Learners’ engagement with written corrective feedback as main part which connects between provision of written corrective feedback and writing outcomes. In other words, the level of learners’ engagement with written corrective feedback will determine learners’ writing ability. This current study completes the existing literatures by examining relationship between learners’ engagement with teacher written corrective feedback and learners’ writing ability. The correlation design was implemented in this research among 88 participants which divided into three classes. Learners were asked to do writing task and revise it based on teacher WCF which they receive. Then, learners also need to fill nine items of learners’ engagement with teacher WCF questionnaire. The results of this research showed that there was very strong positive correlation between learners’ engagement with teacher WCF and learners’ writing ability with the value of pearson correlation was 0.824 and sig. tailed was 0.000 < 0,05. It indicated that the correlation between learners’ engagement with teacher WCF and learners’ writing ability was important and real. So, learners’ engagement with teacher WCF could be used as one of predictor factors of writing ability.

Abstract

Studies outside of cognitive aspects, especially on psychological and affective factors, still have limited findings. In fact, these two issues contribute greatly to the success of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This study aims to identify level of eustress-distress, anxiety-self-efficacy, and comparisons between these variables on learning performance of nursing students. This study used a mixed-method, a comparative study using closed and open questionnaires, and EAP reading test to 95 nursing students in the program of EAP. Certainly, the analysis used correlation and comparison tests using PLS-SEM and qualitative analysis of open questionnaires. The results showed that level of eustress-distress, and anxiety-self-efficacy of students were quite satisfactory. This means that students have ability to adapt positive reactions to learning pressure, more enthusiastic, and develop good self-confidence. Although distress does not influence self-efficacy and learning performance, it does have a significant impact on eustress. There is a strong impact and correlation between anxiety on self-efficacy, and self-efficacy on learning performance. So self-efficacy shows a strong moderating variable to bridge anxiety and learning performance. Qualitative findings also show that there are internal and external factors that contribute to the growth of eustress and self-efficacy. Further recommendations on these findings are also presented at the end of this study. HIGHLIGHTS: Affective factors are psychological constructs related to personality that impact foreign language mastery and provide benefits to language learning methodologies. Affect refers to feelings or emotions, including anxiety, self-esteem, motivation, attitude, and personality traits. The affective factors that influence language input are often referred to as "affective filters.” Eustress is an adaptation process in which an organism survives by changing its behavior and circumstances, to increase buffer zone, and result in an increase in the body's adaptive abilities. In simple terms, eustress is a positive adaptive response to a stressor by individuals. Distress is an unpleasant or negative emotional reaction to stress. Often students experience stress and psychological pressure due to an increase in burden of academic performance and personal factors, for example associating with new peer groups.
