Abstract

High-intensity physical activity such as futsal predominantly relies on the anaerobic energy system and has the potential to trigger the formation of ketone bodies as an alternative energy source. While studies on ketones often focus on fasting, ketogenic diets, or metabolic diseases, research on ketone formation due to intense physical activity remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the formation of urinary ketones in futsal players following a simulated match and to assess the distribution of ketone levels produced. This descriptive observational study involved 22 male futsal players aged 18–25 years. Subjects underwent a simulated futsal match (2 × 20 minutes with a 10-minute halftime break). Urine samples were collected approximately 10 minutes post-match and analyzed using Ketostix to detect urinary ketone levels, classified as negative, mild, moderate, or high. All players tested positive for urinary ketones. A total of 90.9% exhibited mild ketonuria (0.5 mmol/L), 9.1% showed moderate ketonuria (1.0 mmol/L), and no cases of severe ketonuria were observed. These findings indicate that high-intensity futsal activity is sufficient to induce metabolic changes leading to ketogenesis. High-intensity futsal activity can stimulate endogenous ketone production as a response to glycogen depletion. Monitoring ketone levels may serve as an important indicator in designing training, recovery, and nutritional strategies in high-intensity sports. Further studies are recommended to explore the relationship between ketone levels, athletic performance, and metabolic risk in athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the relationship between anxiety level and smash accuracy in badminton athletes. Anxiety is one of the psychological factors that can affect athlete performance, especially in sports that require concentration and accuracy such as badminton. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data were collected through anxiety questionnaire and smash accuracy measurement through validated skill test. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant relationship between anxiety levels and athletes' smash accuracy. The higher the level of anxiety experienced by athletes, the lower the smash accuracy displayed, and vice versa. This finding indicates the importance of managing psychological aspects in athlete training to improve technical performance on the field.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.

Abstract

Physiotherapy education required optimal mastery of psychomotor skills, yet conventional learning was often hampered by limitations in time, access, and practical equipment demonstration. This activity aimed to improve students’ literacy and skills in using physiotherapy equipment through the socialization of the Physio.Learn website, which featured educational videos. The implementation method employed an educational-participatory approach conducted online, consisting of material preparation, socialization via Zoom, website demonstration, interactive discussion, and feedback evaluation. A total of 139 Physiotherapy students from Universitas Negeri Makassar participated in this activity. Survey results indicated that 72.1% of participants rated the video explanations as “clear” to “very clear,” 83% found the visualizations highly helpful, and 92.4% perceived the videos as beneficial in enhancing understanding. Ease of access and website design were also positively rated by the majority of respondents. These findings reinforced evidence that the integration of digital media based on educational videos effectively improved students’ understanding and skills in using physiotherapy equipment, while promoting more flexible and participatory independent learning. The development of interactive features and improvement of content quality were recommended for future platform optimization.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the form of educational services for students who are also pursuing professions as outstanding athletes. In general, outstanding athletes often face a dilemma when faced with the obligations they also have to carry out in their formal education. Starting from class schedules, and assignments to exams that they have to complete during training and match schedules. This research involved 34 outstanding student-athletes who had at least won a bronze medal in a South Sulawesi provincial-level championship event. This research will analyze the context, input, processes, and products of existing educational services, including distance programs, special athlete schools, and programs at sports training centers. The goal is to identify problems and suitability of available special education services and create a destination where athletes can excel in both sports and academics. The conclusion obtained in this research is that at the primary to secondary education level, there are no special regulations made by schools to accommodate outstanding student-athletes as a form of support for student-athlete careers. Another interesting finding in this research was that 90% of student-athlete respondents preferred and understood practical lecture material more easily than theoretical material.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effect of aerobic dance accompanied by traditional and modern music on increasing the cardiovascular endurance of students. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample consisted of 40 students of Makassar State University who were divided into two groups: an aerobic dance group with traditional South Sulawesi music and an exercise group with popular modern music. The exercise was carried out for six weeks, three times a week, for 45 minutes per session. Data were collected through a multistage test (beep test) to measure VO₂ max and analyzed using parametric statistical tests. The results showed that both groups experienced a significant increase in cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). However, a greater increase occurred in the traditional music group (Δ = 3.34) than in the modern music group (Δ = 2.39). These findings indicate that traditional music accompaniment is more effective in increasing cardiovascular endurance and providing added value in the context of preserving local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the risk level of exercise posture on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) at the Faculty of Sports and Health Science , Makassar State University (UNM). Petanque requires athletes to perform repetitive movements and maintain certain body positions, especially when throwing, which can potentially cause musculoskeletal disorders. This study employs a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were obtained through direct observation of athletes' working posture during activities and analysed using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method to assess the level of posture risk for musculoskeletal complaints. The results of the analysis showed that most athletes were in the low to moderate risk category, especially in the back, upper arm and wrist, caused by non-ergonomic body positions when throwing. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the posture of petanque athletes contributes to an increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders, thus requiring attention to the application of ergonomic principles and improvement of posture techniques in training to reduce the potential for musculoskeletal injuries.
