Abstract

This study aimed to compare the effects of simvastatin, rosuvastatin, and fenofibrate therapies on the body weight and lipid profiles of the female rats receiving a combination of oral contraceptives (COC) and a high-fat diet (HFD). Twenty female Wistar rats (130-200 g) were divided equally into four groups. The rats received a standard diet for seven days, and their baseline lipid profiles were analyzed. All rats also received COC containing 15.1 g/kg levonorgestrel/3.1 g/kg estradiol with HFD for 60 days. Starting on day 31, the rats were given the respected treatment. The control group received the vehicle, whereas the others were treated with either simvastatin (2.1 mg/kg), rosuvastatin (0.5 mg/kg), or fenofibrate (8.2 mg/kg). Blood samples were taken on days 30 and 60. The results showed that the administration of COC+HFD and vehicle for 30 days increased the rats body weight and dyslipidemia, characterized by a significant decrease in Low-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and an increase in total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) levels (P0.05). Among the treatments, only fenofibrate was found to be able to prevent a significant weight gain in rats. Both fenofibrate and rosuvastatin inhibited a significant rise in TG and TC levels. Meanwhile, the simvastatin administration failed to do the same. Although statistically insignificant, all treatments increased rats HDL levels. Thus, it can be concluded fenofibrate was the most effective treatment among all in reducing weight gain and improving the lipid profile of dyslipidemic rats induced by oral contraceptives and a high-fat diet.

Abstract

Analisis data dilakukan melalui uji regresi logistik multivariat.

Abstract

The control of the COVID-19 pandemic is influenced by the effective acceptance of vaccines. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the willingness of the public to receive the complete dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the city of Makassar. A cross-sectional research approach was employed, utilizing a questionnaire consisting of demographic information, perceptions of the severity and vulnerability to COVID-19, as well as barriers and benefits of COVID-19 vaccination, which were distributed online in Makassar City. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent factors influencing the intention of the public to receive the full dose (two doses) of the vaccine. A total of 310 respondents participated in this study. Respondents who perceived a high level of disease severity (aOR= 3.39; 95% CI: 1.41 – 8.14) had a higher likelihood of receiving full COVID-19 vaccination, while respondents with a perception of high access barriers to vaccination had a lower likelihood of receiving full COVID-19 vaccination (aOR= 0.18; 95% CI: 0.07 – 0.45). In this study, the intention to accept full COVID-19 vaccination was influenced by perceptions of disease severity and perceived access barriers to vaccination. The implementation of the COVID-19 immunization program by healthcare providers and local governments should incorporate various vaccination education strategies tailored to patients' health beliefs.

Abstract

Abstract Preterm birth is a leading cause of mortality among children under five years old, with maternal anemia as one of its major risk factors. Limited knowledge and poor adherence among pregnant women in consuming iron supplementation tablets may increase the risk of anemia, which contributes to preterm birth. This study aimed to analyze the association between pregnant women’s knowledge levels and their adherence to iron supplementation tablets in preventing preterm birth at community health centers in Makassar City. This cross-sectional study involved 117 pregnant women from four community health centers in Makassar (Sudiang, Tamalanrea, BTN Antara, and Kassi-Kassi). Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS). The results showed that 58.1% of pregnant women were adherent to iron supplementation tablets. Bivariate analysis indicated significant associations between education duration of more than 12 years (OR: 4.911; 95% CI: 1.847–13.057; p=0.001) and employment status (OR: 2.622; 95% CI: 1.064–6.461; p=0.036) with adherence. Multivariate analysis revealed that a good level of knowledge was significantly associated with adherence (AOR: 6.613; 95% CI: 1.484–29.456; p=0.013). Higher knowledge levels were associated with better adherence to iron supplementation tablets. Keywords:  Adherence, Iron, Suplementation Tablets, Knowledge, Pregnant Women, Preterm Birth
