Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest archipelagic countries. Diversification is the process of increasing household economic income in various sectors to improve welfare and survival opportunities. This study demonstrates that the people of Obi Island's livelihoods are diversifying due to mining and pressure from the immigrant population. This study is necessary to determine how mining depletes natural resources affects the livelihood strategies of the Indonesian archipelagic community, particularly in Maluku. On the other hand, they must contend with dwindling natural resources. This study employed a semi-structured questionnaire to conduct a home survey with 153 respondents in Soligi Village. In-depth interviews were also conducted to delve deeper into the research findings. This study demonstrates that physical capital and natural capital are the essential livelihood assets for the inhabitants of Soligi Village, and mining has resulted in the diversification of people's occupations into non-permanent mining employees.

Abstract

This article explored collaborative governance risk management on implementing tobacco control policy in Kulonprogo Regency and Pekalongan City. The research methods used qualitative methods based on primary and secondary data. The authors collected the primary data through interviews with some actors. In contrast, the secondary data comprised online mass media and previous research on relevant topics. This article also uses the tool Nvivo12 Plus to help with data processing. The results showed that the collaborative governance of Kulonprogo Regency and Pekalongan City had some risks in their collaboration. Kulonprogo Regency could resolve those risks through decision-making to achieve the integrated mechanism. This step is easy to implicate because the actor has high cooperation to solve their problem through a joint decision. While the risk collaboration of Pekalongan city could not be solved properly cause of the lack the mechanical integration of the actor in that collaboration. The actor has different principles and impacts on a joint decision to achieve an integrated mechanism when solving the problems.

Abstract

Baubau City has the Buton Kraton Fortress, which is the largest fort in the world and an iconic tourist attraction in the city. Studies regarding tourists' bad experiences related to tourism at the Buton Kraton Fortress have not yet been explored. Bad experiences in cultural tourism activities can give rise to negative sentiments that influence visits to a destination. We used three approaches to explore this negative sentiment, namely interviews with five tourists who had come to enjoy the fort as well as a key person, autoethnography, and netnography. This study aims to explore negative sentiment in the Buton Kraton Fortress. The results show that negative sentiment by tourists, the local community, and online communities most often highlight the problems of waste, spatial and green planning, and city infrastructure. Talking about Buton Kraton Fortress cannot be limited to just the area surrounded by the fort structure but also the surrounding environment. It is very important to note that in planning and managing Buton Kraton Fortress, the approach used must be in line with history and culture itself. The aspects of authenticity, originality, uniqueness, variety, beauty, and integrity are the basis that must always be used because negative sentiment arises when these six aspects are not considered in the planning and management of the Buton Palace Fortress and its surrounding environment.

Abstract

A traditional agroforestry of West Timor, namely Mamar, produces important ecosystem services to the people of this arid region, however, its management tends to change, thereby disrupting its sustainability. This study aims to assess the sustainability of Mamar agroforestry by analyzing the livelihood assests of the community, the biophysical land performance of the soil, and the value of ecosystem services. Furthermore, data, on perception and livelihood assets; the level of soil damage, the importance value index, and diversity index, the value of ecosystem services based on the opinion of experts and community leaders, as well as change in land use were collected in five villages in Kupang district using surveys with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The results showed a change of perspective in Mamar's management; the decrease in the important value index of cultural crops, the diversity index is classified as declining, there is soil damage in several parameters, and the value of ecosystem services does not focus on cultural services. Considering this result, there is a socio-ecological trade-off that reduces support for the sustainability of  Mamar as traditional agroforestry that emphasizes socio-cultural functions.

Abstract

Samiran Tourism Village has developed since 2009 based on community empowerment, so it is necessary to identify its management aspects to realize sustainable tourism. The research method is a qualitative approach through data collection of literature studies, observation, in-depth and semi-structured interviews. The interview informants were Samiran Tourism Village stakeholders who were determined by purposive sampling method tailored to the research objectives. Data analysis was conducted descriptively qualitatively through three steps of reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Samiran Tourism Village has achieved sustainable tourism management by involving various stakeholders but still placing the community as the main actor through the management structure and framework, stakeholder involvement, and management of change. The level of participation was identified through 5 stages. The high category level is at the implementation stage of enjoying results, and reporting because the community is fully involved in it, while the moderate level of participation is at the decision-making and evaluation stages, where the community still plays a role but is not independent / cooperates with other stakeholders. The factors that determine the level of participation can be divided into two, internal and external. Internal factors that influence are gender, social position, length of stay, and local hero, while external factors are influenced by policies made by the government, so that it is beyond the authority of the tourist village and cannot be controlled. Keywords: participation, management, sustainability, tourism village

Abstract

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is considered an initiative that supports a more just and sustainable food system by creating a direct and mutual relationship between local farmers and consumers. Through an agreed mechanism, CSA supports farmers’ livelihoods as they have provided healthy food for consumers. This study contributes to the geographic mapping of CSA studies in Scopus-indexed social science journals and related articles. It traces the emergence and development of diverse CSA models, its political economy context, and the pattern of research themes across geographic areas. The findings reveal that the urban middle class in industrial countries can encourage farmers to produce healthy food and apply more sustainable farming systems. The findings also show that key factors of CSA emergence and development are the growing urban middle class with health, just, and environmental awareness; the availability of farmers who are willing to implement a more sustainable farming practice, and the platform or agreement that links them. The CSA practices across geographic areas differ as they are shaped by the political and economic context and the availability of opportunities. The limitation of this study is the lack of literature on CSA from non-western or non-industrialized countries. Therefore, this study suggests further research agenda on the following topics: exploration of CSAs in non-industrial and non-western countries; intangible value of CSA; diverse perspectives on CSA research; multidisciplinary research on CSA, processes and enabling conditions for CSA and CSA people; and potencies of CSA to solve in diverse social and environmental problems.
