Abstract

TOEIC as the medium of the students’ professional development at Vacational High School. This article aimed at describing how to empower English-literacy culture through TOEIC training to the graders XII TKR 3, XII TGB 2, and XII TBSM 2 of State Vacational High School Dander Bojonegoro. The TOEIC training given including listening and reading skill. The result of this Community  Service  Program showed that the score of TOEIC training is low because of the students of State Vacational High School Dander Bojonegoro have not mastered TOEIC test. They did not know and understand about TOEIC. There is not TOEIC simulation yet. The student English background, especially on vocabulary mastery is still low. There were 81 students joined the TOEIC test. 26 students from the twelveth grade of TKR 3. 26 students from the twelveth grade of TGB 2. and 29 students from the twelveth grade of TBSM 2. The highest of TOEIC score is 64 and the lowest of TOEIC score is 8. The highest of  mean score is reach by TGB 2 grade with 32 score, and the lowest of mean score is is reach by TBSM 2 with 29 score. So, it is necessary to conduct another TOEIC training for students of State Vacational High School Dander Bojonegoro  So, what’s is your recommendation? Solution?Keywords: GLS, , TOEIC, Vacational High School ABSTRAKTOEIC merupakan sarana pengembangan profesional peserta didik pada Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan. Artikel ini bertujuan menggambarkan bagaimana memberdayakan budaya literasi Bahasa Inggris melalui pelatihan TOEIC pada peserta didik kelas XII TKR 3, XII TGB 2, XII TBSM 2 SMK Negeri Dander Bojonegoro. Pelatihan TOEIC yang diberikan meliputi ketrampilan mendengar dan membaca. Hasil PKM ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil skor pelatihan TOEIC masih jauh dari sempurna dikarenakan peserta didik SMKN Dander belum terlatih/terbiasa dan belum menguasai soal soal TOEIC. Mereka belum begitu mengenal dan paham tentang TOEIC serta belum pernah ada simulasi atau pelatihan TOEIC yang diadakan di sekolah sebelumya. Selain itu latar belakang Bahasa Inggris terutama pada kosakata yang berhubungan dengan jurusan yang mereka pelajari masih lemah. Terdapat 81 peserta didik yang melaksanakan tes TOEIC, 26 peserta didik jurusan TKR 3, 26 peserta didik jurusan TGB 2 dan 29 peserta didik jurusan TBSM 2. Hasil nilai simulasi TOEFL tertinggi adalah 64 dan nilai terendah adalah 8. Nilai rata rata tertinggi diraih oleh kelas TGB 2 dengan jumlah 32, dan nilai rata rata terendah dengan jumlah 29 ada di kelas TBSM 2. Oleh karena itu, perludiadakan pelatihan TOEIC lagi bagi peserta didik SMK Negeri Dander Bojonegoro.

Abstract

This article is the result of Holistic Program for Village Empowerment and Development in Trembes Village, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency. In the space structural plan of Bojonegoro Regency, Malo District will be the Reagional Service Centre, while Trembes Village is set to be the Local Service Centre. The strategic potential of this area must be accompanied by the improvement of human resources since in the early ages. During covid 19 pandemic, more or less 80 kids in the elementary school age tended to play and their parents got difficulties in guiding their studies, particularly in English subject that becomes one of literacy indicators. Moreover, no English private course is available there. By taking the theme of “Reading Aloud: An Effort for Developing English Literacy of Children in Trembes Village, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency”, this community service program aimed at developing English Literacy among the kids in Trembes Village through a simple activity but meaningful namely Reading Aloud. This routine program was carried out every Sunday at 09.00-11.00 in August-November 2021 by prioritizing on the activity of reading aloud for shaping English Literacy. The activities of reading aloud bilingual books, giving English materials, as well as varying indoor and outdoor learning had developed the English literacy of children in terms of vocabulary, grammar, and practical uses.Artikel ini merupakan hasil dari pelaksanaan Program Holistik Pembinaan dan Pemberdayaan Desa (PHP2D) di Desa Trembes, Kecamatan Malo, Kabupaten Bojonegoro. Dalam rencana struktur ruang wilayah Kabupaten Bojonegoro, wilayah Kecamatan Malo akan menjadi Pusat Pelayanan Kawasan (PPK), sedangkan Desa Trembes menjadi Pusat Pelayanan Lokal (PPL). Potensi strategis wilayah ini harus diiringi dengan peningkatan kualitas SDM (Sumber Daya Manusia) sejak dini. Selama pandemic covid 19, kurang lebih 80 anak usia SD di Desa Trembes cenderung bermain dan para orang tua mengalami kesulitan dalam mendampingi belajar, terutama mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang merupakan salah satu indikator literasi. Selain itu, tidak adanya lembaga kursus Bahasa Inggris di Desa Trembes juga berkontribusi terhadap rendahnya literasi berbahasa Inggris. Dengan mengambil tema “Reading Aloud: Upaya Membangun English Literacy Anak-Anak Desa Trembes, Kecamatan Malo, Kabupaten Bojonegoro”, kegiatan ini pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan membangun literasi Bahasa Inggris anak-anak SD di Desa Trembes melalui kegiatan sederhana namun sangat berarti yaitu dengan Reading Aloud. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan setiap hari minggu jam 09.00-11.00 sejak Agustus hingga November 2021 ini mengutamakan aktivitas reading aloud untuk membentuk English Literacy. Rutinitas kegiatan yang diawali dengan membaca nyaring buku cerita dwibahasa, lalu memberikan materi Bahasa Inggris, serta variasi suasana indoor maupun outdoor telah mampu membentuk dan mengembangkan English Literacy anak-anak Desa Trembes dalam hal kosakata, tata Bahasa, maupun penggunaan praktis.

Abstract

This article is resulted from the activity of Community Service Program located at State Vocational High School 1, Kanor, Bojonegoro. The low student’s ability in English and the lack of achievement in poem indicated the need of empowerment in writing poem at this school. This article aimed at describing the empowerment process of literary culture of writing poem in Indonesian and English to the graders XI and XII. Indonesia poem took the themes of TKR (Teknik Kendaraan Ringan or Simple Vehicle Technique), Multimedia, Pemasaran (Marketing), and TPHP (Teknik Pengolahan Hasil Pertanian or Agricultural Products Processing Technique). Meanwhile, English poem took free theme but was limited to the six types of poems namely acrostic, cinquain, haiku, tanka, diamante, and calligram. Indonesian poem on expertise program of Vocational High School was intended for deepening students’ understanding on their study fields, while English poem was aimed at improving students’ abilities in English. The results of this Community Service Program reported that there were 34 out of 94 students’ poems fulfilling the criteria of good poem and deserved to be published. Although the poem feasibility only reached 36.2%, this percentage could be categorized as quite good first achievement for the students.Keywords: Vocational High School, Poetry literacy, English, Indonesian.ABSTRAKArtikel ini merupakan hasil dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) yang bertempat di SMK Negeri 1 Kanor, Bojonegoro.  Rendahnya kemampuan Bahasa Inggris serta belum adanya prestasi dibidang seni puisi pada peserta didik SMK Negeri I Kanor, Bojonegoro mengindikasikan perlunya pemberdayaan menulis puisi pada sekolah ini. Artikel ini bertujuan menggambarkan bagaimana memberdayakan budaya literasi menulis puisi berbahasa Indonesia dan berbahasa Inggris pada peserta didik kelas XI and XII. Puisi berbahasa Indonesia mengambil 4 tema yaitu TKR (Teknik Kendaraan Ringan), Multimedia, Pemasaran, dan TPHP (Teknik Pengolahan Hasil Pertanian), sedangkan puisi berbahasa Inggris mengambil tema bebas tapi bentuk puisi terbatas pada 6 jenis yaitu acrostic, cinquain, haiku, tanka, diamante, dan calligram. Puisi berbahasa Indonesia bertema program keahlian SMK bertujuan untuk memperdalam pemahaman mereka tentang materi jurusan masing-masing, sedangkan puisi berbahasa Inggris bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris peserta didik sekaligus memperkenalkan bentuk-bentuk puisi berbahasa Inggris. Hasil kegiatan PKM ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 34 puisi dari total 94 puisi peserta didik yang terpilih dan memenuhi kriteria bagus dan layak terbit. Meskipun kelayakan puisi hanya mencapai 36,2%, persentase ini merupakan pencapaian pertama peserta didik yang cukup bagus.Kata kunci: SMK, Literasi puisi, Bahasa Inggris, Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract : The Pancasila student profile is a translation of Indonesia's national education goals to build the character and competence of students. Global diversity is one dimension of the Pancasila student profile. This dimension has four elements and 11 sub-elements. In elements 1) knowing and appreciating the culture and 2) communication and interaction between cultures, English plays an important role because these two elements contain a global or international context. By applying a mixed method and taking as many as 100 research subjects from three study programs (PPKn, Economics Education, and English Language Education) at a private university in Bojonegoro Regency in November 2022, this study aims to investigate students' perceptions of the role of English for strengthening global diversity in the profiles of Pancasila students. Data on the students’ perceptions were collected by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews. Students' positive perceptions of English will accelerate the competency achievement of Pancasila student profiles on the global diversity dimension. The results of the study indicated that students have positive and negative perceptions of English. However, they have a positive perception of the role of English in strengthening the global diversity dimension in the profiles of Pancasila students. University plays vital roles in developing the positive students’ perceptions. Keywords: Pancasila student profile, global diversity, student’s perception Abstrak: Profil pelajar Pancasila merupakan bentuk penerjemahan tujuan pendidikan nasional Indonesia untuk membangun karakter serta kompetensi peserta didik. Berkebhinekaan global adalah salah satu dimensi pada profil pelajar Pancasila. Dimensi ini memiliki 4 elemen dan 11 sub-elemen. Pada elemen 1) mengenal dan menghargai budaya dan 2) komunikasi dan interaksi antar budaya, bahasa Inggris memegang peranan penting karena kedua elemen ini mengandung konteks global/internasional. Dengan menerapkan mixed method dan mengambil subyek penelitian sebanyak 100 mahasiswa dari 3 program studi (PPKn, Pendidikan Ekonomi, dan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris) di sebuah universitas swasta di Kabupaten Bojonegoro pada bulan November 2022, penelitian ini bertujuan menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa tentang peran bahasa Inggris untuk penguatan kebhinekaan global dalam profil pelajar Pancasila. Data persepsi mahasiswa diperoleh dengan cara menyebarkan kuisioner dan melakukan interview. Persepsi positif mahasiswa terhadap bahasa Inggris akan mengakselerasi capaian kompetensi profil pelajar Pancasila pada dimensi berkebhinekaan global. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif dan negative terhadap bahasa Inggris. Akan tetapi, mereka memiliki persepsi positif pada peran bahasa Inggris untuk memperkuat dimensi berkebhinekaan global pada profil pelajar Pancasila. Perguruan tinggi memegang peran penting untuk membentuk persepsi positif mahasiswa.  Kata kunci: profil pelajar Pancasila, berkebhinekaan global, persepsi mahasiswa

Abstract

Industrial Revolution 4.0 ditandai oleh adanya otomasi dan pertukaran data dimana masyarakat mencari,mengutip, menganalisis data/informasi, mengakses layanan cloud melalui internet. Sedangkan Society 5.0didefinisikan sebagai masyarakat yang berpusat pada manusia (human-centered) dimana kemajuan teknologidan ekonomi digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah dengan menggunakan sebuah sistem yangmengintegrasikan ruang maya dan ruang fisik. Dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, khususnya untuk writingskill, banyak layanan bahasa online tersedia mulai dari tariff free sampai premium, salah satunya adalahPaperrater. Layanan bahasa ini cukup membantu mahasiswa untuk berlatih menulis dalam Bahasa Inggriskarena mampu memberikan feedback berupa spelling, grammar, word choice, vocabulary, style, transitionalphrases serta menampilkan grade yang mengindikasikan kualitas teks tulisan, mulai dari grade A-B-C-Dtanpagrade. Akan tetapi, mahasiswa juga perlu dibekali dengan kecerdasan alami yaitu mampu membedakangrammar dan menggunakan konteks kalimat. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan menggambarkanpenggabungan antara Artificial Intelligence (Paperrater) dengan kecerdasan alami dalam pembelajaranmenulis Bahasa Inggris. Data penelitian ini diambil dari mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris 1 dengan partisipanmahasiswa jurusan Teknik Informasi dan Teknik Perkapalan. Melalui Paperrater, mahasiswa mampumembuat komposisi tulisan Bahasa Inggris yang lebih baik dan melalui kecerdasan alami, mahasiswa mampumembedakan mana feedback yang perlu dilakukan pembetulan dan mana feedback yang harus diabaikan.

Abstract

Nurul Ulum Elementary School is a private institution with limited space, lacking a library or reading corner within the classrooms. Consequently, students have limited access to a diverse range of interesting books. This community service initiative aims to enhance student literacy by establishing a reading corner that offers various sources of reading material. The activities include setting up reading corners, conducting outreach, and performing evaluations. The outcome of these efforts is an increased interest among students in reading books and the development of literacy skills. This is evident through the enthusiasm of students who take turns selecting books and reading during break time. Through these initiatives, Nurul Ulum Elementary School students have successfully cultivated a culture of literacy within the school environment.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a new policy in the Indonesian education sector that aims to give teachers and schools the freedom to design learning that suits students' needs and abilities. This research aims to determine teachers' perceptions of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in English vocabulary lessons in rural elementary schools. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 3 class teachers in each elementary school in a rural area that had implemented the independent curriculum. The results of the research show that teachers have a positive perception of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in English vocabulary lessons in rural elementary schools. Teachers feel that the Merdeka Curriculum gives them the freedom to design learning that is more creative and innovative, and better suited to students' needs and abilities. The findings of this research show that the Merdeka Curriculum has the potential to improve the quality of English language learning in elementary schools. However, further support is needed from the government and schools to assist teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum effectively

Abstract

Teacher strategy is the most important technique in teaching vocabulary. Teaching strategies aim to make it easier for teachers to choose the methods used to help students learn the desired subject matter and develop goals that will be achieved in the future. There are many strategies that teachers can use to teach vocabulary, one of which is games. The purpose of this research is to analyze what strategies teachers use and how to implement the strategies they use when teaching English vocabulary. This research focuses on 3 teachers based on the length of teaching experience at SDN Baklan II Kapas. In this research, researchers collected data using direct interviews with teachers at SDN Bakalan II Kapas. This study's results reveal several strategies teachers use when teaching in the classroom.

Abstract

Vocabulary is the basic part and a key element to learning any language. Courage to speak must be supported by adequate vocabulary. If we dare to speak but are not supported by vocabulary, then we may use sign language to express something.. However, to improve memorize of vocabulary, teachers must use a technique or strategy that is suitable, one of which is the use unplugged activity coding game. This research aimed to describe the effectiveness of unplugged activities in teaching vocabulary which is conducted at MI Mansyaul Huda. To explain the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary to young learners, the researcher employed a pre-experimental research approach to get more information in detail. The data were collected through the pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the 2nd-grade students of MI Mansyaul Huda in the academic year 2023/2024 which consisted of 20 students. The result showed that the use of unplugged activities was effective in teaching vocabulary to young learners evidenced by the increase in pre-test to post-test score. Kosakata adalah bagian dasar dan elemen kunci untuk mempelajari bahasa apa pun. Keberanian berbicara harus ditunjang dengan kosakata yang memadai. Namun untuk meningkatkan hafalan kosa kata, guru harus menggunakan teknik atau strategi yang sesuai, salah satunya adalah penggunaan unplugged aktivitas coding game. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas aktivitas unplugged dalam pengajaran kosakata yang dilakukan di MI Mansyaul Huda. Untuk menjelaskan efektivitas pengajaran kosakata bagi pelajar muda, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan penelitian pra-eksperimen untuk mendapatkan informasi lebih rinci. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pre test dan post test. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 2 MI Mansyaul Huda tahun ajaran 2023/2024 yang berjumlah 20 siswa. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan aktivitas unplugged efektif dalam pengajaran kosakata bagi pelajar muda yang dibuktikan dengan peningkatan nilai pre test ke post test.

Abstract

In linguistics, semantics studies how meaning is expressed through language, including sentences, phrases, and words. Connotative meaning, which gives words emotional depth and resonance, is significant in song lyrics. This study, titled “A Semantic Analysis of Connotative Meaning in Ben Howard’s Song Lyrics,” aims to explore the connotative meanings in Ben Howard's lyrics. The researcher chose five of his most popular songs on Spotify for this analysis. Using a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, the study looks into the sense of values and types of connotative meanings in the lyrics. The analysis shows that the songs’ themes affect the types of connotations found. Songs about love, vulnerability, and youth memories tend to have positive connotations, while themes of self-doubt, separation, and searching for life’s meaning have more negative and neutral connotations. Moreover, associative meaning is the most common connotative form, followed by affective, reflective, and allusive meanings. The findings indicate that song themes greatly influence the types of connotations used, with positive connotations more frequent in hopeful songs and negative ones in introspective songs. This research adds to language studies by offering insights into the complex and rich meanings in Ben Howard’s song lyrics.
