Abstract

Eggshell powder for laying hens contains calcium carbonate CaCO3 (98%) and calcium (28%), efficacious as an antiseptic, antibacterial, and the development of the mineral apatite in the formation of bones and teeth. Eggshell powder is an organic waste that has the potential to be used as a supplement material for calcium sources for humans. However, the content of eggshells consists of inorganic compounds that produce ash. Eggshells as a supplement material must meet quality and safety standards, but this has never been done. Therefore, in this study, an ash content test was carried out with the aim of knowing the inorganic content in the isolation of eggshells of laying hens. Eggshells were isolated by demineralization and deproteination processes. The test results showed that the ash content in the eggshells of laying hens was 95.13%, while in the isolation results the ash content was 96.13%.

Abstract

Daun Ekor Kucing (Acalypha hispida Burm.f.) merupakan jenis tanaman hias yang telah dikenal masyarakat Indonesia untuk pengobatan, namun belum ada penelitian untuk meneliti toksisitas akut daun ekor kucing. Tanaman ini mengandung senyawa alkaloid dan flavonoid. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi ketoksikan akut ekstrak etanol daun ekor kucing (A. hispida Burm.f.) terhadap larva Artemia salina Leach dengan metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) yang ditunjukkan dengan nilai LC50. Penelitian eksperimental ini menggunakan 300 ekor larva udang (Artemia salina Leach) yang dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok kontrol negatif dan 5 kelompok seri konsentrasi ekstrak. Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 10 ekor larva dengan replikasi 3 kali untuk tiap kelompok perlakuan. Kelima kelompok perlakuan diberi suspensi sediaan uji ekstrak etanol daun ekor kucing dengan konsentrasi 100 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, dan 1.000 ppm. Data kematian Artemia salina Leach dianalisis dengan analisis probit untuk mengetahui nilai LC50. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan harga LC50 dari ekstrak etanol daun ekor kucing adalah 220,005 ppm. Ekstrak etanol daun ekor kucing memiliki potensi toksisitas akut terhadap larva Artemia salina Leach menurut metode BSLT yang ditunjukkan dengan harga LC50 1.000 ppm.

Abstract

Banana peel and pineapple peel have high potassium content. The banana peel and pineapple peel combination can be used as lozenges in potassium supportive therapy. The safety of banana peel and pineapple peel combination lozenges must be ensured by the acute toxicity test. One of the parameters observed during toxicity testing is the organ index. This study aims to determine the relationship between dose and toxicity in acute oral administration of banana peel and pineapple peel combination lozenges on the heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys organ index in white rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) Wistar strain. Acute toxicity based on OECD 425 guidelines for the Up-and-Down Procedure (UDP) method. Rats were grouped into 2000 mg/kg BW and 5000 mg/kg BW dose groups, consisting of 5 rats. Organ indexes were analyzed using SPSS Independent Sample T-test with 95% confidence level (p0.05). The result showed no significant difference between both doses (P0.05) in heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys organ index. Based on the results, it can be concluded that banana peel and pineapple peel combination lozenges did not affect white rats’ heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and kidney organ index.

Abstract

Banana peel and pineapple peel are organic wastes that contain potassium, so it can potentially be developed into lozenges form as supportive antihypertensive therapy. Banana peel and pineapple peel as health supplement ingredients must meet safety requirements. The study of subchronic toxicity test was aimed to determine the toxic effect of repeated administration of a combination of banana peel and pineapple peel extract on motor activity and behavior of Wistar rats. The study was conducted by giving the test preparations repeatedly for 28 days in the control group, doses of 100 mg/KgBW, 400 mg/KgBW, 1000 mg/KgBW, control satellite, and satellite at 1000 mg/KgBW dose, as well as additional 14 days of observation in the satellite group to observe the reversibility effect. The test results showed that administering a combination of banana peel and pineapple peel extract showed normal observation on motor activity and behavior of Wistar rats. This study concludes that the combination of banana peel and pineapple peel did not give toxic effect on motor activity and behavior of Wistar rats.

Abstract

The waste of banana peels and pineapple peels in its utilization is still very lacking, even though it has the potential to be developed because they have high potassium as potassium intake in the body. The combination of banana peel extract and pineapple peel extract is expected to have a synergistic effect as a potassium supplement. The purpose of this study was to determine serum potassium levels of rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) Wistar with banana peel and pineapple peel extracts. Banana peel and pineapple peel were extracted using the infusion method. The test animals used male and female Wistar rats. The control group was given glucose and sucrose bases, the test group was given doses of 100, 400, and 1000 mg/KgBW of banana peel and pineapple peel extract with glucose and sucrose bases, and the control satellite group and satellite dose of 1000 mg/KgBW. The results of all groups showed normal levels of potassium in blood serum. Potassium levels between each group did not show a significant difference (p≥0.05) in male and female rats. Conclusion: administration of banana peel and pineapple peel extract did not affect the serum potassium level of Wistar rats.

Abstract

Banana peel and pineapple peel contain potassium which may be developed into health supplements. The development of banana peels and pineapple peels as ingredients for potassium supplements must meet safety aspects that can be proven by subchronic toxicity tests. This subchronic toxicity test aimed to determine the effect of repeated administration of a combination of banana peel and pineapple peel extract for 28 days on the liver, kidney, kidney, lung, heart, and spleen index of Wistar rats. This research used male and female white rats which were divided into six treatment groups, namely the control group, low dose, middle dose, high dose, satellite control, and high dose satellite. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the liver and kidney organ index, and a significant decrease in the adrenal gland organ index after administration of a combination of banana peel and pineapple peel extract. This research concludes that the combination of banana peel and pineapple peel extract has an effect on the liver, kidney, and adrenal gland organ index in Wistar white rats.

Abstract

Cincalok is a fermented product made from small shrimps and is a traditional food from West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Cincalok fermentation is produced with the composition of sugar and salt and the appropriate fermentation time. Shrimp in general contain several active compounds, one of which is astaxanthin which gives shrimp its red colour. The shrimp fermentation process resulted in an increase in astaxanthin concentrations compared to ordinary shrimp, caused by the breaking of protein bonds in the fermentation process. Virgin coconut oil is used for astaxanthin extraction because of its good solubility in oil. The emulsion formulation was carried out using 2 different non-ionic emulsifiers to see the effect of the emulsifier on the physical dan chemical properties and stability of the emulsion. Emulsifiers used are cremophor RH 40 and tween 80. The evaluation includes organoleptic testing, determination of content, pH, emulsion type, globule size and distribution of globule size, and viscosity. Stability evaluation were also carried out including volume creaming, centrifugation, heating and cooling, and freeze-thaw tests. The results and data showed that the emulsion formula using emulsifier tween 80 was more physically stable than the formula using cremophor RH 40

Abstract

Swamedikasi adalah penggunaan obat tanpa resep atau upaya seseorang dalam mengobati gejala penyakit tanpa melakukan konsultasi ke dokter. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat di Kecamatan Rasau Jaya, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat mengenai swamedikasi dan cara penggunaan obat yang rasional. Metode yang digunakan adalah Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman peserta dengan indikator nilai rata-rata pretest adalah 45,32 (skala 0-100) dan nilai rata-rata posttest adalah 86,67 (skala 0-100). Metode FGD berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat Kecamatan Rasau Jaya mengenai swamedikasi dan penggunaan obat secara rasional. Hasil pengisian kuesioner menunjukkan kegiatan ini dinilai sangat bermanfaat dan mengharapkan adanya keberlanjutan kegiatan.

Abstract

Jamu is one of the Indonesian traditional medicine. Jamu is efficacious for health so it is widely consumed by the society. The high level of consumption causes trade competition from jamu industry in various regions, including in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan. However, several jamu industries in Pontianak have violated the law by adding medicinal chemicals to jamu. The most widely added medicinal chemical in jamu is paracetamol. Paracetamol which indicates as an analgesic-antipyretic can be harmful for health because it increases liver hepatotoxicity if consumed continuously.This study aims to identify paracetamol in herbal medicine. A total of 10 samples were obtained in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan by purchasing directly or from an online shop. This study used thin layer chromatography as an instrument of qualitative analysis. The results of the analysis using thin layer chromatography were Rf samples A, B, and G were 0.675, respectively; 0.6625; 0.6625 which is close to the standard Rf value for comparison of paracetamol, which is 0.675. Those three samples contained paracetamol because they had a different Rf value 0.05 from the standard Rf value.

Abstract

Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye used as a dye for paper and textiles. This dyeis prohibited from being used in cosmetics including lipstick because it can cause skin irritation, irritation to the digestive tract, poisoning, and can cause cancer. The research aims to identify Rhodamine B contained in lipstick circulating in the market area of Pontianak City. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling technique, obtained 7 samples of lipstick circulating in the market area of Pontianak City. The analysis of Rhodamine B in this lipstick was carried out by Thin Layer Chromatography method using silica gel plate GF 254 and the mobile phase is a mixture of n-butanol, ethyl acetate, and ammonia in a ratio (10:4:5). The results of this study obtained 2 positive samples containing Rhodamine B, namely samples A and E. The Rf values in the samples were 0.75 and 0.675, which were close to the Rf value for the comparison of Rhodamine B, which was 0.7375. The identification results showed that from 7 lipstick samples there were 2 samples positive for Rhodamine B dye.
