The number of population was 160 students, therefore, cluster random sampling was used as technique sampling. The students in each of experimental and control groups consisted of 32 students that classified from heterogenic students level. The result of the average score in experimental group was 63.40 and control group was 57.84. It meant that the result of reading scores in experimental group was higher than in control group. In other words, NHT technique was more effective than CIRC technique toward students reading comprehension in descriptive text.

Abstract

Listening is an individual concentration on specific aspects of aural information, build context from passages, and connect what they hear to prior experience. Unfortunately, listening activities are rarely given to students. The problem is formulated as follow: “Is there any significant difference of using video podcast toward listening comprehension of students majoring in Multimedia at the first grade of SMK 4 Metro?”.The research design was quasi-experimental. The students Majoring in Multimedia at first grade SMK 4 Metro as population. To assess the students’ listening comprehension, the researcher used a written test. Based on the result, the significance score of 0.002 was smaller than t table 0.05, which meant that Ha was accepted and there was a significant difference between students who taught by using podcast and those who were not. As a result, podcasts became an enjoyable medium to use in teaching listening skill

Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate the Multiculturally Responsive Teaching (MRT) Instrument to assess the multicultural competence of pre-service English teachers. Multicultural competence is essential in fostering inclusive learning environments, yet there is a lack of standardized instruments tailored to measure this construct effectively within teacher education. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The instrument was designed based on key dimensions of multicultural competence: racism, social class, religious diversity, gender inequality, language diversity, and cultural differences aspects. Data were collected from 335 English Education students across Indonesia, and analyzed using the Rasch Model to assess the instrument's validity and reliability. Findings indicate that the MRT instrument demonstrates high internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.92, a person reliability score of 10.14, and an item reliability score of 5.14, suggesting strong measurement precision. The Person-Item Map (Wright Map) confirms the instrument's ability to differentiate respondents' competence levels, while the rating scale analysis supports the functionality of the Likert scale categories. The classification of item difficulty based on Logit Value Index (LVI) reveals a well-structured hierarchy, ensuring appropriate item calibration. The study concludes that the MRT instrument is a valid and reliable tool for measuring multicultural competence among preservice English teachers. Its application can support curriculum enhancement, professional development, and policy formulation in teacher education programs. Future research is encouraged to expand its implementation in different educational contexts to further validate its effectiveness.

The purpose of this research is to improving students vocabulary mastery using digital picture series media. The subject of this research were 3 students at eighth grades of SLB Harapan Ibu. The researcher was conducted by using classroom action research (CAR) with 4 steps namely : planning, action, observing, and reflecting that consist of 3 cycles. The analyzing data for quantitative was the students score of the tests. Based on the research that has been carried out, the percentages of students completeness in cycle I is 0%, in cycle II is 33% and in cycle III is 66%. Thus it can be concluded that by applying digital picture series media can improve the vocabulary mastery of mental retardation students at SLB Harapan Ibu. The digital picture series media can be used as an alternative to improve English vocabulary in SLB Harapan Ibu.

Abstract

Although digital technology has been widely adopted in English language instruction, existing research often emphasizes general applications or large-scale platforms without closely examining how specific digital tools function within the context of vocational education. Most prior studies have focused on university students or general high school populations, with limited attention to how audio and visual elements in applications like Memrise influence motivation and vocabulary acquisition among vocational students. Furthermore, while Memrise has been recognized for its gamification and multimedia features, few empirical studies explore how these features interact with the unique learning needs, habits, and infrastructural challenges faced by students in vocational schools, particularly in rural or under-resourced settings. The lack of in-depth, context-specific studies examining the practical integration of Memrise into structured classroom routines—especially using qualitative insights—creates a significant gap in the literature. This study addresses that gap by exploring the perceptions and experiences of Class X students at SMKN 3 Metro, focusing on how Memrise’s visual, audio, and gamified elements affect motivation and vocabulary learning within a vocational education framework.
