This research examines the interpersonal meaning in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)’s speech. This is based on the details of speech or writing to define an investigation. The object of this research is the used moods and modality types in interpersonal meaning of SBY’s speech under the title “Toward Harmony among Civilizations†by Dr.Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The aims of this research are (1) to observe the mood and modality types used in SBY’s speech, (2) to observe the dominant mood and modality types in SBY’s speech, (3) to describe the interpersonal meaning in case of mood and modality types in SBY’s speech. The main sources of data in this study are taken from the SBY’s speech at the John F. Kennedy School of Government Harvard University summit on September 29 th, 2009, in Boston, USA. The data then are classified and collected in tabulation. This paper is based on the discourse analysis and systemic functional linguistics approach by Halliday. The writer analyses the speeh by SBY mainly from the interpersonal meaning which focuses on the mood and modality types. The results of this research are (1) there are two mood types in interpersonal meaning of SBY’s speech namely indicative and imperative type, (2) the dominant mood in SBY’s speech is the indicative type which is declarative with the total number of 97 clauses or around 95%, while the dominantly used modality is “canâ€. In addition, the overall dominant modality type exists in median degree modality with the total percentage 40,6%, and (3) the researcher discovers the different mood and modality that might affect the value of the speech to the audience.

The purpose of this study was study analyze the students’ error in writing argumentative essay. The researcher focuses on errors of verb, concord and learner language. This study took 20 students as the subject of research from the third semester. The data took from observation and documentation. Based on the result of the data analysis there are some errors still found on the student’s argumentative essay in English writing? The common errors which repeatedly appear are verb. The second is concord, and learner languages are the smallest error. From 20 samples that took, the frequency the errors of verb are 12 items (60%), concord are 8 items (40%), learner languages are 7 items (35%). As a result, verb has the biggest number of common errors.

The purpose of the present study is to explore the positive effects of Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) on other important factors such as students’ motivation. STAD was used with thirty second-grade students and was compared to thirty second-grade students who worked in groups lacking the key components of STAD. Both groups completed pretest and posttest and responded in motivational questionnaire which measured changes in exposure to writing skill in English. The findings showed that (1) there was a significant progress within each group, (2) there was also significant mean difference between the experimental and control group with the contribution of the STAD approach to students’ motivation and to writing achievement.

Abstract :Character educationplays an important partbecause it isnot onlyabout moralandvalueeducation. It is commonly believed that the practices of English language teaching always accompanied by the insertion of foreign cultural values which are not always in line with Indonesia cultural values. The aim of this study is to improve students’ writing skill through integrating local culture material. Therefore this study focuses on designing and evaluating teaching writing material for English department students of University Muhammadiyah Metro. The result of this study shows that students have big interest and motivation in writing a text based on their local culture. The students also get moral value and character building through the material. It influences the students’ character in their daily life. Students become more polite, honest, diligent and religious. Abstract: The study was aimed at finding out (1) the reading strategies dominantly used by the second year students (2) whether or not there was significant correlation between students’ reading strategies and reading comprehension achievement (3) whether or not there was any difference between male and female students in terms of reading strategies and reading comprehension achievement, (4) whether or not students’ reading strategies influence reading comprehension achievement. The data were collected using Reading Strategies Questionnaire and a reading test. The findings of the study showed that: first, the students mostly used metacognitive strategies in reading activity. Second, there was a strong and positive correlation between reading comprehension achievement and reading strategies. Third, male and female of students have any significance difference in their reading strategies and their reading comprehension achievement. The last, students’ reading strategies influence their reading comprehension achievement.

Covid-19 requires educators to innovate using the adaptive English teaching method. Various researchers have researched English teaching methods to solve the learning process in the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore multiple studies need to be compiled into one discussion to produce information for the next researchers about future opportunities. This study conducts the Bibliometrics Analysis method to analyze the citation of research articles. The study population adopts article primer data of English teaching method in Covid-19 pandemic by searching through Google scholar with the key “English teaching method in Covid-19 pandemic” using Publish or Perish (PoP) software in December 2020. Based on the initial data search using the Publish or Perish (PoP) application, there were 989 articles. After screening the suitability of the topic, 63 articles were obtained, which became data to discuss. Data mapping results using the VOSViewer Software show the research trend is in the keyword that appears the most of sixty-three articles such as student, pandemic Covid, teacher, education, teaching, and EFL Teacher. Therefore, the next research potential uses other teaching media of the keyword summary presented by VOSViewer.

A city can be called developed when the population or community has a high interest with evident from the number of books published and the number of libraries in the country. It should be more and more publishing newspapers and magazines, it will impact on improving the reading of books. But unfortunately, this is only limited interest in reading improvement of people's interest in reading newspapers and magazines only. This evaluation is expected to generate inputs to increase student interest in reading at Kota Metro, considering our constitution also mandates the government and all of us to educate the nation. In addition, it can be used as consideration in policy- making related to the school library, city library, the park reading and other things related to the culture of reading in order to promote a culture of reading among students and the public.

University students have to be able towrite in English,the ability is not only expected to English educations’ students but also for all students in University. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the comic-strip media in improving mechanical engineering students in writing ability. In this research, the research will be focus on the procedure text.This research applied quasi-experimental “pre-test post-test design”. It is conducted at the Muhammadiyah University of Metro in academic Year 2015/2016. The Population involved in this study is mechanical engineering students which consist of 60 students. The researcher took all the population as the sample of this study;30 students as experimental class and 30students as control class. The variables of this study are (1) CIRC Method with comic-strip media as independent variables, (2) Ability to write as the dependent variable. The instrument used in this study is the writing test. To analyze the data, researchers uses ttestformula.The results showed the value of ttestTTable 3.57 and 2.00 (criterion 1) and 2.66 (criterion 2). From these results it can be concluded that the CIRC method through comic strips can improve writing ability in mechanical engineering students.
