Abstract

This research is motivated by the fading introduction of local culture, especially traditional culinary, among early childhood due to the rapid flow of globalization. Kue balog is a traditional food typical of Pandeglang Regency made from cassava which has not been optimally introduced to the younger generation from an early age. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of cooking class activities as a fun and meaningful learning medium, analyze the integration of local culture in cooking class activities to foster children's appreciation of regional culture, and identify plans, methods, strategies, evaluations, obstacles, and solutions in the implementation of cooking class activities to introduce Pandeglang block cakes to children aged 4–5 years at the Pandeglang Pembina State Kindergarten. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis refers to the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data was tested through source triangulation and triangulation techniques. The results of the study showed that: (1) cooking class activities were proven to be effective as a fun and meaningful learning medium through three structured stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation with a learning by doing approach; (2) the integration of local culture is carried out in a planned manner through the introduction of block cakes as the culinary identity of Pandeglang, so that children show awareness and pride in their regional culture; (3) The learning by doing and project-based learning methods with demonstration strategies, individual mentoring, and positive reinforcement have proven to be effective, while obstacles in the form of differences in children's fine motor skills are overcome through individual guidance. Overall, cooking class activities have proven to be effective as a means of introducing traditional foods as well as instilling a love for local culture from an early age.

Abstract

Independence is a crucial aspect of development that requires stimulation from an early age through meaningful learning experiences. One activity with the potential to foster children's independence is the communal lunch program regularly implemented in early childhood education institutions. This study aims to describe the implementation of the communal lunch program in stimulating the independence of children aged 4–5 years at Bunayya Islamic School Jakarta, identify the forms of independence that develop, and analyze the factors supporting and hindering its implementation. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of the school principal, teachers of the 4–5 age group, and children aged 4–5 participating in the lunch program. Data collection was conducted through observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the communal lunch program is implemented in a structured manner, involving activities such as handwashing, praying, serving food according to needs, eating together, and tidying up eating utensils afterward. The program effectively stimulates the development of self-help skills, simple decision-making abilities, self-regulation, responsibility, and social interaction among the children. Program success is supported by consistent habituation, teachers acting as role models, and adequate facilities and infrastructure; conversely, hindering factors include varying levels of independence among the children and a lack of consistent habituation within the family environment. Thus, the communal lunch program serves as an effective habituation-based learning strategy for stimulating independence in early childhood. Keywords: lunch program implementation, child independence, habit formation, early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the MBG Program in fostering religious character among Group B at RA Al-Izzah in Serang City. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and the principal, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis referred to the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of MBG at RA Al-Izzah has been carried out in a structured and integrated manner within daily routines, encompassing the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages in accordance with the school’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Through shared school meals, the program successfully instilled six core religious character values: prayer, gratitude, discipline, responsibility, proper table manners, and social compassion. Factors supporting the program’s success include foundation support (self-sufficient kitchen), strong team collaboration, adequate facilities, appealing menus, and collaboration with parents. Meanwhile, the main barriers are children’s food preferences (particularly refusal to eat vegetables), menu monotony, and budget constraints. The school overcomes these challenges through a non-coercive, persuasive approach, consistent habit-building, and providing feedback to service providers to improve menu variety. It is concluded that the MBG Program at RA Al – Izzah not only serves to meet nutritional needs but has transformed into a meaningful, effective, and sustainable medium for religious character education for early childhood. Abstract

Language ability is one of the developmental aspects that needs to be stimulated from an early age because it plays an important role in children's communication, understanding of information, and interaction with their environment. Circle time is one of the learning activities that can be used to stimulate children's language ability. This study aims to describe the implementation of circle time, the development of receptive and expressive language ability of children aged 2-3 years, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation at KB-TK Labschool Jakarta. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects consisted of the school principal, the classroom teacher, and 11 children aged 2-3 years. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation used to test data validity. The results show that circle time was implemented systematically through opening, core, and closing stages, and was able to stimulate children's receptive language in understanding simple instructions as well as expressive language in answering questions, enriching vocabulary, and forming simple sentences. The success of its implementation was supported by teacher competence, the use of appropriate media, activity routines, children's emotional readiness, and cooperation with parents, while the obstacles encountered included differences in children's language ability, short attention spans, children's emotional conditions, late arrivals, and the need for special assistance. Thus, circle time proved to be an effective learning strategy for stimulating the language ability of children aged 2-3 years.
