Abstract

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem is one of the unique ecosystems that has high productivity and it grows along the coast of Aceh Province, Indonesia. The mangrove vegetation in Aceh Tamiang District was decreasing due to human exploitation i.e. stems of mangrove vegetation utilized by local communities become charcoal and firewood. These activities have a negative impact on live and growth of mangrove vegetation. Therefore, the purposes of the study are to analyses the important value index (IVI), mangrove species diversity, and to analyses the correlation between substrate characteristics with mangrove density. The research stations determined using the purposive sampling method and each station has three plots as replication. There were 4 research stations located in Seruway, Bandahara, Banda Mulia, and Manyak Paye sub districts. The study reported 12 species of mangrove in the trees category, 9 species of saplings, and 8 species of seedlings. The 12 species of mangroves found were Avicennia lanata, A. marina, A. officinalis, Brugeira parviflora, B. sexangula, Ceriops decandra, C. tegal, Lumnitzera recomosa, Nypa fruticans, Rhizopora apiculata, R. stylosa, and Sonneratia alba. The R. apiculata was species commonly found in each sampling location and it had highest IVI for the tree, sapling and seedling categories with the value of 207.24, 300, and 200, respectively. The average of diversity index was 1.56 categorized in the medium category. The moment Pearson correlation showed there was no significant correlation between the physical-chemical water parameters and substrate with the density of mangrove where Psig0.05.Keywords:Mangrove vegetationImportant value indexDensityDiversityAceh Tamiang

Abstract

Three intestinal bacteria isolates (namely C1, C2, and C3) from common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were isolated and identified as new potential probiotics. This research aimed to study the effect of three isolates potential probiotics addition on growth performance, survival rate and feed efficiency of common carp. Completely randomized design was assigned to fourth diet treatments with five replicates. As a control, we used the feed without any supplemention of potential probiotic. The result showed that the addition of potential probiotic bacteria (C1, C2, and C3) gave significant effect on daily growth rate, survival rate and feed efficiency and could be used in aquaculture industry to reduce feeding cost.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of giving Mimosa pudica leaf-soaking extract to Cyprinus carpio fish infected with Aeromonas hydrophila. This research was conducted in the Laboratory of Fish Hatchery and Breeding, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Syiah Kuala University and the method used a complete randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments (A: Mimosa pudica extract 0%, B: Mimosa pudica extract 3%, C: Mimosa pudica extract 5%, D: Mimosa pudica extract 7%). The results of this study indicate that Mimosa pudica extract affects the clinical symptoms of Cyprinus carpio. Data from ANOVA analysis showed that the administration of Mimosa pudica extract had a significant effect (P<0.05) on survival with each treatment of 36.67±11.54% in treatment A, in treatment B of 56.67±5.77%, in treatment C of 66.67±5.77% and in treatment D of 83.33±5.77%. Leukocyte results in all treatments showed differences in values where each was in treatment A at 29.5 104 cells/mm3 , in treatment B at 19.5 104 cells/mm3, in treatment C at 15.4 104 cells/mm3, and in treatment D at 7.21 104 cells/mm3. The haemoglobin results of all treatments also had different values, namely in treatment A of 3.4 g/dl, treatment B of 4.2 g/dl, treatment C of 5.2 g/dl, and treatment D of 6 g/dl. The conclusion from the results of this study is that 7% Mimosa pudica leaf extract shows the best results on clinical symptoms, survival, leukocyte count and haemoglobin levels.

Abstract

This study evaluates the antibacterial potential of Mimosa pudica leaf extract for koi fry (Cyprinus carpio) infected with Aeromonas hydrophila. Specifically, it investigates the effects of immersion treatments at different concentrations, determines the optimal dose, and analyzes hematological responses. The research was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024 at the Fish Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Syiah Kuala University. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was applied with six treatments A (negative control), B (positive control), C (Mimosa leaf extract 6%), D (Mimosa leaf extract 7%), E (Mimosa leaf extract 8%), and F (Mimosa leaf extract 9%) each with three replications. The results showed notable improvements in clinical symptoms of koi fry, including active swimming behavior, better feeding response, fading of red spots, reduced mucus production, normalized scales, absence of abdominal swelling, and restoration of normal eye color. ANOVA analysis of survival rate revealed a significant effect (P 0.05), with the highest survival observed in treatment F (86%) compared to treatment B (46%). In conclusion, Mimosa pudica leaf extract at a concentration of 9% (treatment F) provided the best results and can be recommended as a potential natural antibacterial for koi fry. Keywords:MimosaAeromonas hydrophilaKoi fishclinical symptoms

Abstract

Hand hygiene is a simple thing that is often overlooked, especially in schools located in coastal areas with limited sanitation facilities. This community service activity aims to introduce innovations in the production of liquid hand soap and sea salt-based paper soap as an effort to improve health and empower the local economy. The implementation methods include education, demonstrations of production, and direct training for community partners. This service was carried out at Banda Aceh State Elementary School 61 from July to September 2025. The training produced 30 L of liquid soap and 1000 sheets of paper soap; by the end of the session, 75% of participants completed all production steps correctly (checklist). Entrepreneurial outputs included a student–teacher sanitation team and two product mock-ups with basic costing (estimated unit cost Rp 12.000 per 500 mL vs market price Rp 18.000). These results indicate technical feasibility and school-based micro-enterprise potential. For sustainability, the school committed to monthly in-house production led by the sanitation team and integrating the activity into UKS to secure continuous supply and ongoing skill transfer.
