Abstract

Abstract

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, including in Indonesia. Low public awareness in recognizing stroke symptoms is a major factor contributing to delayed treatment. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of culture-based education using a Banjar-language FAST animation video in improving family knowledge and attitudes toward early stroke detection. The research design used a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test as well as a control group. The sample consisted of 100 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge and attitude scores in the intervention group (p < 0.05). This indicates that culture-based education is more effective than conventional education. In conclusion, this approach can serve as a more inclusive health education model for communities with language limitations.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children in Indonesia. Health education in schools serves as a key strategy in reducing the incidence of diarrhea in children. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method combined with video media in improving elementary school students’ knowledge of diarrhea prevention. A quasi-experimental method with a pre-test–posttest design and a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design was employed, involving 70 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The results showed a significant increase in diarrhea prevention knowledge scores in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). This indicates that game-based learning is more effective than conventional educational methods. Based on these findings, the TGT method can be considered an innovative and interactive educational strategy within school health programs and is recommended for broader implementation alongside evaluations of behavioral changes in diarrhea prevention.

Abstract

Introduction: As the demand for nursing professionals increases in response to evolving community health needs, the importance of effective educational strategies becomes more critical. Community-Based Education (CBE) offers a hands-on, context-driven approach that prepares nursing students to address real-world public health challenges. This study aimed to explore the impact of CBE on the development of teamwork skills among nursing professional students during their community and wetland health placement. Methods: A mixed-methods design was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection. The quantitative component involved 31 nursing professional students who completed the Nursing Teamwork Survey (NTS). For the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with five students until data saturation was reached. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the quantitative data, while thematic analysis was used for the qualitative findings. Triangulation was applied to integrate both data sets. The study was conducted at Puskesmas Martapura Barat. Results: The highest mean score in the NTS domains was found in "team orientation" (mean = 33.68), indicating strong collaborative tendencies among participants. Thematic analysis identified seven key themes reflecting the impact of CBE: self-determination, self-help, leadership, localization, integrated service delivery, reduced service duplication, and acceptance of diversity. Conclusion: The application of Community-Based Education significantly enhances students' teamwork abilities, fostering collaboration both within student groups and with the wider community. These findings suggest that CBE can serve as an effective clinical learning model, especially during community-engaged stages of professional nursing education, supporting the development of well-rounded, community-responsive nurses.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major concern in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia’s wetland regions such as Sungai Rangas Village, where environmental and cultural factors heighten disease burden and influence quality of life. Traditional and complementary therapies are commonly practiced, highlighting the need for culturally appropriate care models. This study examined adaptive responses and quality of life among hypertensive patients using Roy’s Adaptation Model, operationalized through an assessment instrument covering four modes: physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. A quantitative descriptive design involved 120 respondents aged ≥40 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using structured interviews and the WHOQOL-BREF. Most respondents were female (56.7%), older adults (40% ≥60 years), and had low levels of education. Findings showed the highest adaptive responses in interdependence (61.7%) and self-concept (59.2%), while role function had the lowest (55%). Quality of life was highest in social relationships (mean 62.4) and lowest in psychological health (56.1). Respondents with adaptive responses in all modes were more likely to report a higher quality of life (65%). Overall, adaptation patterns in wetland environments strongly shape the quality of life. Roy’s Adaptation Model provides a culturally sensitive framework, supporting recommendations such as strengthening peer support, environment-based health education, and improved mobile health access during flood seasons.
