Abstract

Tourism is believed to be able to empower people economically, both at the individual and community levels, by providing various employment and business opportunities to community members to help alleviate poverty. This study offers insights into community empowerment outcome, particularly in economic dimension, through a quantitative approach. This study aims to identify the level of community empowerment outcome perceived by the local communities in tourism development in their area and analyze the factors that influence the outcome. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study collected data through household survey, field and participatory observation, and document analysis. The questionnaire responses were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis (i.e., frequency distribution and cross tabulation) and chi-square analysis. The findings suggest that tourism was able to increase the income of the people working in the tourism sector. However, only several people perceived that tourism could provide benefits for them. Several factors influencing the community perception related to economic empowerment in tourism development were identified. These include involvement in the tourism industry, community culture (kinship), nature of tourism affecting the type of available job, lack of engagement, lack of capital, education, and geographical factors.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has an impact on several sectors in the community of Majalaya Village. A few people in Majalaya Village have experienced a decrease in income until they have lost their profession. This activity aims to increase people’s reading interest and literacy culture towards information, help people find alternatives to increase income, increase public understanding of the importance of protecting the environment and provide knowledge about flood disaster mitigation and mobilize people to cultivate plants in the yard. This activity was held on July 13, 2020 to August 25, 2020. The level of literacy of the people of Majalaya Village is still low. So that important information such as Covid-19 information is not always delivered well to the people of Majalaya Village, the lack of land makes the people of Majalaya Village do not want to cultivate crops, and environmental issues around garbage and flood disasters still often occur around the Majalaya Village area. However, the local government has been quite responsive in dealing with environmental issues in the form of the formation of Tangguh Bencana (Destana) Village by Bandung Regency government. Abstract

Community-based tourism development is one of the tourism concepts expected to optimize the benefits felt by the community. However, community readiness is needed in its development efforts because they will be the managers and organizers of these development activities. This study aims at the Lawe Gurah community’s preparation to develop community-based tourism activities in their area and realize sustainable community-based tourism. This research was conducted qualitatively by conducting interviews with the community and various stakeholders involved in the development effort. The analytical framework used to identify the condition of community readiness is the stages developed by the Asia-Pacific Economy-Cooperation (APEC). The study results indicate that the Lawe Gurah community has good readiness to develop community-based tourism activities. Based on nine crucial stages, the community has reached stage 6, which means: that the community is ready to develop tourism in their area, the community has basic skills for tourism development, there is leadership and organizational structure for tourism management, there are efforts to advance  tourism management organizations, partnership development, adopting an integrated approach. Three more states that have not been achieved are the availability of product plans and designs, preparation of marketing strategies, and implementation and monitoring of the area. Therefore, the community still needs to prepare several things to be more sustainable tourism development. These things are related to tourism development with an integrated approach, the preparation of various tourism products, studies related to tourism demand, and the monitoring and evaluation mechanism of these tourism activities.

Abstract

The Semama Island Wildlife Sanctuary (SIWS) was part of the Derawan National Tourism Strategic Areas (NTSA) with great potential. As a conservation area, tourism should consider the carrying capacity at SIWS for its optimal development. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the carrying capacity of the SIWS area using the Physical Carrying Capacity approach. Literature studies, field observations, and interviews were conducted in October 2021 to collect data. The results showed that the pyhsical carrying capacity of the SIWS was 506 people per day, consisting of 45 mangrove tours, 401 snorkeling, and 60 birdwatching activities, indicating the maximum number of visitors the SIWS could accommodate. This information is essential as a consideration for future tourism development.

Abstract

Sangalaki Island Nature Tourism Park (NTP) is one of the tourist destinations in Derawan. As a conservation area, tourism development in Sangalaki Island NTP must pay attention to the carrying capacity of the area. The purpose of this research is to calculate the carrying capacity in the NTP area of Sangalaki Island. The research was conducted in October 2021 through literature studies, field observations, and interviews. The calculation of the carrying capacity is carried out with the concept of Physical Carrying Capacity (PCC). The PCC of the area in Sangalaki Island NTP is 259 people/day with details of beach tourism 77 people, snorkeling 69 people, diving 44 people, tracking 13 people, and animal watching 57 people. The PCC data can be the basis for the manager to determine the maximum number of visits that can carry out tourism activities at Sangalaki Island NTP. Carrying capacity is intended to reduce the impact of tourism development on the ecological aspects of the area. In addition, the application of environmental carrying capacity is a manager's step to apply the concept of sustainable tourism at Sangalaki Island.

Abstract

AbstractHoneybees are very important pollinating insects because their pollination activity can improve fruit quality and productivity. Pollen is a male gametophyte of a plant with the reproductive function to fertilize the ovule. Honeybees use pollencollected from various plants as a source of food, especially protein. Pollen contains different types of amino acids that honey bees using it to synthesize food. This study aims to investigate the source of pollen from the honeybee colony of Apis cerana collecting food based on pollen characteristics. Pollen samples were taken from the hind limbs of worker bees and honeycomb of Apis cerana honey bee colonies at the apiary of KTH Wana Karya Tani Sejahtera in Buana Sakti Village, Buana Sakti Village, Batanghari District, East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. Pollen recognition was performed by identifying their characteristics through the pollen aperture, pollen based on the polar and equatorial, ornamentation, and pollen size. The research showed seven plant species were used by honeybees as a food source for pollen. Each species comes from a different family. The type of pollen aperture found varies according to plant species. Types of pollen aperture 1-colpate and pastorate are commonly found in pollen from hind legs. This type of aperture was also found in hive-stored pollen. The dominant types of pollen found in leg and nest pollen came from C. nucifera and A. mangium species.Key words: Bee, feed source, pollen characteristicsAbstrakLebah madu termasuk serangga penyerbuk yang sangat penting, dimana aktivitas penyerbukannya dapat meningkatkan kualitas dan produktifitas buah. Abstract

A person may contribute to the conservation of species through donations. The willingness to donate (WTD) to conserve endangered species can depend on many factors. This research aims to determine the willingness of visitors to Indonesia's zoos and safari parks to make a donation for species conservation and identify the determinants of their WTD through preferences toward certain species. This research focused on 12 priority endangered mammals. The study began with a preliminary survey of 110 respondents in January 2020, followed by data collection in February 2020 involving 1011 adult visitors to zoos and safari parks in Java and Bali. Specifically, descriptive statistics in the form of percentages ere used to analyze the influence of preferences toward species conservation and amount of donation while considering individual characteristics such as gender, age, place of residence, occupation, and level of education. Our results confirmed that mammals, mega-herbivores and large carnivores are very popular among young adult visitors. Overall, the results demonstrated that visitors placed rhino, elephant and tiger as the three priority species to be conserved in terms of donation given. It is clear that these three charismatic species have a very high conservation value in the eyes of the people. Furthermore, the characteristics of species and the knowledge and psychological preferences of the visitors can contribute to the determination of the preference for the number of donations to certain wildlife species. Abstract

Urban forest is a form of green open space in the urban area. The use of information and communication technology based on smart tourism is an important factor in providing facilities for recreational areas. This research aims to formulate smart tourism-based development at PSBUF for recreation based on resources, management and preferences of visitors and the surrounding community. Data collection methods used were literature studies, field observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The data analysis used were qualitative, quantitative descriptive, and SWOT. Pesanggrahan Sangga Buana Urban Forest (PSBUF) has the potential to develop smart tourism-based facilities for recreation. Standard recreational facilities are available in the form of prayer rooms, toilets, gazebos, jogging tracks, parking lots, badminton courts and football fields. Urban forest management is carried out by EFG Sangga Buana with supervision by the DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Service. EFG Sangga Buana strives to preserve the environment in the DKI Jakarta area with facilities that do not disturb the surrounding ecosystem. The existence of jogging tracks and sports fields is still lacking. The biggest motivation for visiting the urban forest is to refresh the mind from daily boredom. Public facilities that are really needed are rubbish bins. Respondents need for smart tourism facilities in the form of CCTV is the highest. Recommendations for the development of facilities are optimizing potential, maximizing management cooperation, increasing PSBUF promotions, and optimizing coordination between managers.
