Abstract

The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is closely related to the Human Development Index (HDI), which measures a country's social and economic development. The decline in IMR based on gender is thought to be related to discrimination in the treatment of female babies, unequal nutritional needs of female babies, and utilization of health service facilities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between risk factors and infant mortality with gender stratification. Using a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data from the 2012 and 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS), the research sample consisted of women of childbearing age (15-49 years) who had given birth, totaling 3694 and 3413 women in 2012 and 2017, respectively. Data analysis was conducted using logistic regression and the sampling technique employed was two-stage stratified random sampling. From the 2012 and 2017 IDHS, variables influencing infant mortality based on gender included maternal age (0.23 95% CI 0.14-0.37; 3.17 95% CI 1.94-5.17), parity (0.49 95% CI 0.33-0.72; 2.53 95% CI 1.75-3.68), place of birth (0.47 95% CI 0.33-0.67; 0.61 95% CI 0.41-0.89), and body weight (2.67 95%CI 1.75-4.08; 3.31 95% CI 2.12-5.17). Baby girls with small birth weights were at higher risk of dying compared to baby boys, while male babies born to older mothers were at greater risk of death compared to female babies. Antenatal care is an essential key in reducing various risks of infant death based on gender, playing a crucial role in ensuring healthier outcomes for both male and female infants through early detection and targeted interventions.

Mental health issues have been essential in formulating global health policies for 30 years. The campus community is inseparable from the problem of mental health disorders, which can affect the work either students, lecturers, or staff. This research aimed to describe mental health conditions among the campus community based on demographic factors as an opportunity to initiate a healthy campus program. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population was an academic community at a private campus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. There are 347 samples taken by accidental sampling. The mental health instrument used the self-reporting questionnaire. There, 60.81% of respondents experienced psychological disorders, and 73.49% of respondents needed to be referred to a mental health professional regarding addiction, psychotic disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There was a significant relationship between demographic factors consisting of gender, age, type of work, employment status, education level, faculty, and emotional disorders with a p-value of <0.005. Moreover, age, gender, education level, type of work, and employment status related to mental disorders due to addiction, psychosis, and PTSD with a p-value<0.005. It is concluded that a large proportion of responders need a referral to a mental health expert. To promote a healthy campus, university officials should follow up with health promotion initiatives such as partnering with the local health office and public health center for additional treatment and improving policy support.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents' dental and oral health problems are significant to pay attention to. Because the incidence rate is relatively high, adolescents/students often experience dental and oral health problems due to the lack of proper education in maintaining dental and oral hygiene and health. Through video media and pocketbooks supported by attractive visual displays and thin but informative pages, it can be one solution to providing health education to students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using video media and pocketbooks as educational and health promotion media for improving students' dental and oral health. Method: This study used an experimental design with a pre-test and post-test model conducted on 104 students who were taken using purposive sampling. Then, this study was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test to compare the effectiveness of students' knowledge and attitudes before and after dental and oral health education. Results: The results showed increased knowledge (value: 0.000) and attitudes (value: 0.001) of students before and after being educated using pocketbook media about dental and oral health. Conclusion: providing pocketbooks and videos as health promotion education media is effective in improving students' knowledge and attitudes toward maintaining dental and oral health. Developing pocketbook content to be more varied and informative and using other promotional media to strengthen students' knowledge and attitudes is necessary.
