Abstract

Abstract: The Impact of Motivation and Collaborative Learning on Academic Achievement. Objective: This article aimed at explaining the impact of motivation in learning English and the application of collaborative learning on English learning achievement. Method: A three by two factorial design was employed and the sample of this research was 48 students of English for Special Purposes (ESP) subject. The valid and reliable motivation questionnaire and English test were distributed to gather the data and were analyzed by independent simple t-test and two-way ANOVA. Result: The result presented that there was a significant interaction between motivation and the application of collaborative learning to the ESP learners‘ English achievements with the sig. 0.00. Conclusion: It can be derived that the motivation and the use of collaborative learning gave a positive impact on ESP learners‘ English achievement and there was a significant interaction between learning English motivation and the application of collaborative learning to the ESP learners‘ English achievements. Keywords: Motivation, collaborative learning, academic achievement. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i2.202108

Abstract

This study examines the types of speech acts that occur during trials at the Baturaja OKU District Attorney's Office, utilizing Austin and Searle's speech act theory and Sperber and Wilson's relevance theory. A qualitative approach was adopted, gathering data through observation and interviews with judges, prosecutors, lawyers, witnesses, and defendants. The findings reveal that locutionary speech acts, which convey information, are prominent in the trial setting. Illocutionary speech acts, such as orders, clarifications, and emotional expressions, were used to achieve specific communicative purposes. Perlocutionary speech acts, which provoke emotional responses or actions, significantly influence the behavior of trial participants. The study highlights the impact of the legal context on the interpretation of these speech acts, emphasizing the importance for legal professionals to be proficient in both legal terminology and the nuances of communication. These dynamics contribute to the effectiveness and fairness of the legal process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 6 OKU to read children's pantun in Indonesian language learning. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. The data collection technique used in this study is a children's pantun reading test. The analysis technique is carried out through a children's pantun reading test. The population and sample amounted to 24 students, through the children's pantun reading test, it turned out that students who got a score of 66-100 were 16 students or 66.66%. While students who got a score of less than 66-100 were 8 students or 33.33%. Thus, it can be concluded that fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 6 OKU are able to read children's pantun in Indonesian language learning. Suggestions for Indonesian language teachers can make children's pantun as an alternative to teaching pantun that will be delivered to students at school in order to increase student motivation so that students are able to improve their skills in reading children's pantun. Students should be more diligent in learning Indonesian, especially when learning about pantun, so that their knowledge of pantun is more developed. Other researchers are advised to conduct further research on pantun, such as how to write pantun, listen to pantun, and so on.
