Abstract

The present study aims to explore Indonesian EFL teachers’ perception regarding the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) usage for developing cultural awareness of students as well as improving their English literacy and communication. Even though English subject is not considered as compulsory to be taught in elementary school, there is evidence that English is still being taught either as the local content subject or as the language-medium of instruction. This study employs survey research by administering a questionnaire for elementary school English teachers in Indonesia who have been ever implementing online learning. The result shows that most teachers respond positively on the implementation of ICT in English instructional practice in elementary school. Regarding the cultural content, the participants agree that ICT can be helpful for them to provide interactive digital teaching material, including cultural material for the students. The existence of ICT is helpful for both students and teachers to provide real and authentic teaching materials. Therefore, the use of ICT needs to be promoted to provide cultural awareness in ELT practice to equip young learners to do intercultural communication in the global world

Abstract

This study explores the transformative potential of deep learning in enhancing curriculum design and learning processes within modern educational environments. Drawing on a qualitative research design, the study employs documentary and thematic analysis to synthesize insights from scholarly literature, policy documents, and empirical studies on artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The findings reveal that deep learning enables the development of adaptive, data-driven curriculum frameworks capable of responding to diverse learner needs and rapidly evolving knowledge landscapes. Deep learning technologies also support personalized learning pathways by analyzing real-time and historical student data to identify learning gaps, predict performance, and recommend targeted instructional interventions. Moreover, the analysis highlights the role of deep learning in improving instructional practices through intelligent feedback, automated assessment, and enhanced learner engagement. However, several challenges remain, including issues related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, teacher readiness, and infrastructural limitations. Addressing these concerns is essential for ensuring equitable and responsible integration of deep learning technologies. Overall, the study concludes that deep learning offers significant promise for reimagining curriculum and instruction, provided that implementation is carefully planned and supported by appropriate pedagogical, ethical, and institutional frameworks.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the levels of foreign language anxiety experienced by high school students and to identify the sources of anxiety in ICT-based English learning context. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving eleventh-grade students of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung. Data were collected through the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Thirty students participated in the questionnaire, while five students were selected for in-depth interviews to explore their perceptions and experiences. The data were analyzed descriptively to reveal patterns of anxiety and its contributing factors. The findings indicate that most students experience moderate to high levels of foreign language anxiety in ICT-based learning environments. A significant number of students fall into the “anxious” and “very anxious” categories, suggesting that ICT integration does not entirely reduce anxiety. Interview results reveal that while some students feel motivated and enthusiastic about ICT-based learning, many struggle with lack of self-confidence, fear of making mistakes, technical difficulties, unfamiliarity with digital platforms, and the pressure of fast-paced online lessons. These factors collectively intensify students’ anxiety during foreign language learning. In conclusion, the study highlights that although ICT provides valuable support for English learning, it also introduces new sources of anxiety. Therefore, teachers need to implement supportive strategies, provide clear guidance, and create a less threatening digital learning environment to help students manage foreign language anxiety effectively.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of code-switching as a bilingual communication strategy in the Bicara Cinta podcast, focusing on Maudy Ayunda’s Indonesian–English language use. Positioned within applied linguistics and digital discourse studies, the research aims to identify the types of code-switching employed and to understand their communicative relevance in a public media context. Using a qualitative design with a content analysis approach, naturally occurring utterances from the podcast were examined. The analysis reveals 73 instances of code-switching, consisting of 16 inter-sentential switches, 42 intra-sentential switches, and 15 tag switches. The predominance of intra-sentential switching reflects a high level of bilingual proficiency and flexible linguistic negotiation. These findings provide insights into bilingual practices in Indonesian digital media and offer pedagogical implications for English education, particularly in promoting sociolinguistic awareness and authentic exposure to bilingual discourse.
