Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the implementation of religious moderation in improving interreligious harmony among Suku Anak Dalam in Dwi Karya Bakti Village, Jambi Province. Suku Anak Dalam is a community that coexists with members who adhere to Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, animism, and Islam. Despite their religious diversity, they still live peacefully and harmoniously. The results showed that implementing religious moderation among the Suku Anak Dalam in Dwi Karya Bakti Village had a positive impact. The Suku Anak Dalam community daily exhibits tolerance, mutual respect, and inter-religious cooperation. Interfaith dialogue activities, inclusive religious rituals, and cooperation in socio-religious activities are concrete examples of successful implementation of religious moderation. However, this study also identifies several challenges in implementing religious moderation in the Suku Anak Dalam. Factors such as limited access to formal education, infrastructure constraints, and geographical differences are obstacles to widely spreading the understanding of religious moderation in this community.

Abstract

Indonesia’s cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity is a national strength, yet it also creates vulnerabilities that can trigger SARA-based tensions, particularly when intensified by digital misinformation and the politicization of identity. This study responds to the need for a multicultural education framework that bridges global theoretical perspectives with Indonesia’s socio-religious realities. Employing a qualitative analytical approach, the research integrates James A. Banks’ multidimensional model of multicultural education with Kamanto Sunarto’s perspective, which emphasizes inclusivity rooted in Islamic intellectual traditions. The findings reveal that Banks’ focus on educational integration and equity aligns closely with Sunarto’s emphasis on interreligious and intercultural openness, producing a complementary model suited to mitigating SARA-related conflicts. This integrated framework provides fresh direction for curriculum development, teacher capacity-building, and interfaith educational programs, while offering practical contributions to efforts aimed at strengthening social harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article is grounded in the debate over the role of values in the study of religion. Should religious studies be value-free, as argued by McCutcheon, or is value-neutrality impossible, as Goldstein contends? This research departs from that tension and aims to explore how Roy Bhaskar’s critical realism offers a coherent middle path for the discipline. Employing a qualitative literature-based method, the study examines Bhaskar’s works alongside key texts in critical religious studies. The findings show that identifying the colonial, patriarchal, or class-based contexts in which doctrines or rituals emerged is not a moral or political act, but a scientific consequence of causal investigation. Within a Bhaskarian framework, objectivity does not mean value-neutrality; rather, it is an epistemic process aimed at uncovering the mechanisms that shape religious phenomena. Thus, critique of religion is not moralistic but constitutes a component of scientific objectivation. The study finds that the emancipatory dimension of religious studies arises inherently from successful scientific analysis. When mechanisms of oppression, power relations, or ideological structures are revealed, such knowledge becomes emancipatory by virtue of its explanatory power. These insights demonstrate that religious studies can remain critical and objective without slipping into activism or the illusion of pure neutrality.

Abstract

In today's modern development, poetry has transformed into—and contributed to shaping—songs in popular culture. Song lyrics in popular culture are very similar to traditional poetry, which evolved as a modern expression of a timeless art form. Song lyrics, as an integral part of popular culture, function as a form of storytelling and meaning-making. By retelling human experiences and emotions, they create narratives that resonate deeply with audiences, often reflecting themes of hope, despair, love and redemption. These interactions underscore the idea that theology does not stand alone, but is embedded in the cultural and emotional currents that define human existence. In this context, bands like Metallica stand out as profound contributors. Their ability to channel deep personal experiences and universal human themes into their music not only defines their art but also underscores their connection to the spirit of the culture. Metallica is one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time, and their lyrics have had a profound impact on the genre. This present research specifically examines the theological reflection of Metallica's song lyrics, which requires an analysis of how Metallica's song lyrics contain elements of theological reflection, especially those related to desire, love, sin, forgiveness, and salvation. Therefore, this present research is more focused on the question of how do Metallica’s song lyrics, especially “The Unforgiven”, reflect theological values in relation to desire, love, sin, forgiveness and salvation. The purpose of this research is to find the theological reflection by taking the object of only song lyrics from “The Unforgiven” which was released in 1991 inside Black Album.

Abstract

This article examines the application of the phenomenological approach to religion, particularly Ninian Smart's seven-dimensional model, in the context of the Qur’an. The study aims to explore how these dimensions ritual, narrative, doctrinal, ethical/legal, social, emotional, and material are represented in the Qur’anic text and to assess their relevance for contemporary interpretive methodologies. Using a qualitative-descriptive method and thematic analysis of relevant verses, the findings reveal that the Qur’an encompasses all seven religious dimensions. This suggests that the Qur’an not only conveys theological doctrines and legal injunctions but also constructs a multifaceted structure of religious experience. The article highlights the strengths of Smart’s approach in bridging divine revelation with lived religious realities, while also cautioning against the epistemological risks of reducing revelation to mere subjective experience. These insights offer new avenues for developing thematic Qur’anic exegesis and multidimensional Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the historical, philological, and ideological dynamics behind the phenomenon of post-Uthmanic Qur’anic re-canonization, known as the second maṣāḥif project. Specifically, it investigates how this process of textual reconsolidation unfolded during the Abbasid and Mamluk periods by highlighting the roles of scholars (ʿulamāʾ), political institutions, and bureaucratic mechanisms in shaping Sunni orthodoxy through the standardization of Qur’anic recitations (qirāʾāt). The study employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a historical-philological and sociological-ideological approach, based on an examination of classical maṣāḥif manuscripts (al-Dānī, Ibn Mujāhid, al-Suyūṭī) as well as secondary analyses from contemporary studies on the history of Qur’anic canonization. The findings reveal that the second maṣāḥif project represents a phase of textual and ideological consolidation marking the transition from oral to institutional authority. Ibn Mujāhid (d. 324 H/936 CE) played a central role in establishing the qirāʾāt sabʿah as the official boundary of canonical readings, supported by Abbasid political power to stabilize religious discourse and strengthen Sunni orthodoxy. The standardization of rasm Uthmānī and the elimination of non-canonical readings produced a hierarchical system of knowledge transmission, in which the qurrāʾ and ʿulamāʾ served as the exclusive mediators between the text and the Muslim community. Although this process achieved theological uniformity and ritual unity, it also resulted in dysfunctions—particularly the loss of linguistic and hermeneutical diversity within the qirāʾāt tradition. Theoretically, this study introduces the concepts of dual canonization and textual statecraft to explain the reciprocal relationship between sacred text, political authority, and the production of orthodoxy in classical Islam.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that most of the preparation and budgeting of quality improvement programs and activities are not fully data-based, so they are still partial and unsustainable. This is a problem that will impact other aspects, including the implementation of programs in educational units that are not measurable, partial, and unsustainable, ultimately resulting in no significant improvement in educational quality. The purpose of this study is to determine the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards in senior high schools. The implementation of research related to the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards in senior high schools, used qualitative research with descriptive study methods. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of SPMI also faces challenges. One of them is the resistance of some teachers to changes in learning approaches based on data and project literacy. The impact of the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards has brought significant changes to the learning process. Teachers are more active in adapting learning approaches based on critical literacy and project-based learning. Students are involved in exploratory activities such as mini-research, article presentations, and text-based group discussions. The school climate has become more positive and dialogical. Relationships between students, teachers, and management have become more open thanks to regular reflection spaces and collaborative literacy activities. Student discussion forums have become a healthy platform for criticism and appreciation of the school system.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid development of digital communication, which has had a significant impact on social interaction patterns, including in the realm of da'wah (Islamic outreach), which is now often conducted online. One interesting figure to study is Dondy Tan, a content creator who actively uses YouTube to deliver da'wah. The content he presents not only conveys moral and religious messages but also often touches on fundamental theological issues, such as understanding divinity, interpreting holy books, and studying the history of religious development. The main focus of this research is to analyze how Dondy Tan constructs the argumentation flow in each of his da'wah content, as well as to examine how the audience, especially the netizen community, responds to and interprets the messages conveyed. This research uses a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach. The primary data source is Dondy Tan's da'wah videos uploaded to his YouTube channel, which are then analyzed using Fairclough's discourse analysis framework. Furthermore, netizen comments in the discussion column are also studied, especially comments that generate a lot of responses, replies, and debate. The intense interaction in the comment space reflects the dynamics of digital communication and the construction of meaning for the da'wah messages conveyed.

Abstract

This article critically examines Ivan Strenski’s work “The Proper Object of the Study of Religion: Why It Is Better to Know Some of the Questions Than All of the Answers”, which positions “problems of religion” as the epistemological foundation of religious studies. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes Strenski’s argument that religious inquiry should focus on fundamental questions emerging from religious phenomena, rather than defining what religion is. The analysis reveals that Strenski successfully offers an important epistemological repositioning for religious studies to remain scientific while avoiding both theologization and cultural reductionism. However, his concept remains normative and lacks an operational methodology for empirical application. This review highlights the significance of Strenski’s ideas in enriching the epistemological discourse of religious studies and underscores the need for a more concrete methodological framework to implement his theoretical propositions.
