Abstract

This study aimed to obtain endophytic bacterial isolates originated from healthy cacao plant, potential for plant-growth promoting of cacao seedlings. This study was carried out in the Phytopathology Laboratory Unit of the Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University. This study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) using ten isolates of endophytic bacteria from healthy cocoa plants as treatments, plus a control treatment. The experiment was conducted in a screenhouse using seed treatment and planted in seedling boxes, containing sterile rice-husk charcoal as a growing medium. The result showed that three endophytic bacteria tested (isolates 2RPR1, 2RWB2, and 5BRB3) were potential as plant growth-promoting of cocoa seedlings, because the isolates were able to increase seed germination up to 96.67%, relative growth rate up to 90-96.67%, increased plant height up to 47.85-67.17%, root dry weight up to 35.08-52.63%, and canopy dry weight up to 97.71-108.46%. The superiority of the three isolates were related to their abilities to fix nitrogen, dissolve phosphate, as well as to produce indole acetic acid. Keywords: cacao, endophytic bacteria, plant growth-promoting agent, seed viability

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the response of the growth of sweet corn plants and weed density to the treatment of bio-fertilizer based on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and cow manure fertilizer. The study was conducted using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) in a factorial pattern. The first factor was arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) consisting of four doses, namely without AMF (A0), AMF 5 g/planting hole (A1), AMF 10 g/planting hole (A2), AMF 15 g/ planting hole (A3). The second factor was cow manure fertilizer con-sisting of three doses, namely without cow manure fertilizer (B0), cow manure fertilizer 3 kg/plot (B1), cow manure fertilizer 6 kg/plot (B2). The treatment applied consisted of 12 combinations of treatments with 3 replications, so there were 36 experimental units. The observed variables were plant height, stem diameter, leaf area and weed density. The results showed that the average height of sweet corn was best at 42 DAP in the treatment of cow manure fertilizer 6 kg/plot (B2) as 111.6 cm. The average highest of stems diameter was at 14 DAP in the treatment of cow manure fertilizer 6 kg/plot (B2) as 0.40 cm. The average leaf area of sweet corn was at the age of 28 DAP was highest in the combination treatments cow manure fertilizer 6 kg/ plot (A0B2) and without AMF as 894.5. The weed species with the highest density found was I.cylindrica as 0.5-32.4%, C. kyllingia as 1.3-41.8%, C. rotundus as 1.3-30.3% and F.miliaceae as 1.2-12.7%.

Abstract

Abstract

Biochar enriched with fertilizers has the potential to improve the quality of acid soils. In the agricultural sector, it was reported that the sap of Kappapychus alvarezii (K-sap) is often used as a biofertilizer. Therefore, this study aimed to (i) examine the character of biochar enriched with the K-sap and (ii) analyze the soil quality after incubation. This study was carried out using two treatment factors arranged in a randomized block design, namely the biochar dose at 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, and 7.5% in weight and K-sap at concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%.  Ten kilograms of acid soil were incubated with K-sap enriched biochar for up to 2 weeks in each experimental pot. The results showed that the absorption band increased with the K-sap concentration for the functional group associated with the OH-stretching of the biochar enriched with K-sap was stronger and wider than the unenriched. The peak elevation pattern detected by X-ray diffraction for all biochars was similar. The dosage of 7.5% biochar enriched with 5%-10% K-sap concentrations increased pH, EC, organic C, total N, C:N ratio, available P, and exchangeable K, Ca, Mg, and Si than those without treatment. Furthermore, ammonium and total spores of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi decreased, flagellates increased with and without the biochar, while the nitrate, total bacteria, and fungi of all treatments were similar. Based on these results, it was concluded that biochar enriched with K-sap could improve the quality of acid soil.

Abstract

Extension of Propagation and Packaging Techniques for Honey Bees (Trigona sp.) In Baruga District, Kendari City. Community Partnership Program Faculty of Agriculture University of Halu Oleo Kendari with one of the partners of Mataiwoi Farmers Group Baruga District Kendari City has carried out community service in order to provide encouragement, spirit to horticulture farmers and plantation crops in increasing Trigona sp. honey bee business in increasing productivity. Implementation of the Community Partnership Program is very appropriate as a means and media for technology transfer how to increase the productivity of farmer groups Method of Implementation PKM activities are carried out on the basis of observations and problems found in the field. From the implementation of this program the output targets achieved from the implementation of the program are: (1) Farming partners master the techniques of propagation and removal of colonies of Trigona sp., Which are based on their ecological rules (2) Farmers know there are ways to make bees that honey bees enjoy Trigona sp. (3) Farming partners can know how to harvest Trigona sp., Which is good and hygienic (4) Farmers can package honey that is worth selling by standardizing the relevant institutions so that the resulting honey product is more acceptable to consumers because of the consumer awareness about safer products is getting better
