Abstract

Abstract

In 2022, Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists experienced violence while covering. The perpetrator was a member of the security unit when he wanted to ask for clarity regarding certificates in the 2017 Complete Systematic Land Registration Acceleration Program (PTSL) at the National Land Agency (BPN) of Bandar Lampung City. The BPN security guard confiscated work tools and forced journalists to delete coverage such as photos or videos, until finally forcibly expelling journalists by pushing and closing the BPN building gate. This research aims to find out why such violence can occur and how the role of press organizations resolves cases of violence against Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists. Data were obtained from interviews, observations, and document searches. The results of the study showed that violence against Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists occurred due to a lack of understanding of the perpetrators of violence about the duties of journalists, weak law enforcement, and a lack of support from press companies to protect and provide understanding to their journalists in conducting coverage. Press organizations in Lampung have played their role in overseeing the resolution of cases of journalist violence through the Coalition of Press Freedom Defenders (KPKP) with a series of efforts, including providing statements of attitudes and legal opinions, encouraging the authorities to investigate cases, strengthening the authorities, and holding campaigns and public discussions. Unfortunately, the role of press organizations is still not optimal because not all press organizations are involved, press companies are ignorant, and victims take peaceful initiatives. Peace desision has no deterrent effect on perpretators. In 2022, journalists from Lampung Post and Lampung TV experienced violence while reporting. Abstract

This research investigates the phenomenon of language competition between Megelen (a dialect of Javanese spoken in Banyumas) and Jemberan (a dialect of Javanese spoken in Jember) within the context of communication among multi-ethnic communities in the village of Jatimulyo. The aim is to understand the dominance of Jemberan Javanese and the reasons behind its usage in communication among the Banyumas community. A qualitative approach is adopted, employing Bourdieu's framework of social practice logic (agent-habitus-mode-field), with observations conducted in family settings, neighborhoods, and public spaces. Data is gathered through triangulation of sources including observations, interviews, and document reviews. Data analysis follows Miles and Huberman's qualitative analysis method (reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification). The findings indicate that Jemberan Javanese dominates as a communication tool due to its symbolic power, although Banyumas Javanese dialects are maintained as distinctions within family and neighborhood contexts. These findings support the view that Bourdieu's framework of social practice logic is dynamic and relevant for analyzing cultural phenomena such as shifts in language use.

Abstract

In the digital era, a number of media, both television and online, use YouTube to distribute their content in order to obtain alternative income. Kompas.com does it. Its digital workforce is geared towards these targets. This research aims to find out the practices of daily digital news workers on YouTube Kompas.com. Fuchs' views on digital workers were used as the basis for the research. The research is qualitative research with data collection in the form of in-depth interviews, observations and documentation studies. Interviews were conducted with managing editors, lead video producers, producers, video journalists, and content creators. The results of this research show that digital worker practices include coercion, alienation and appropriation. In the realm of coercion, it can be seen that the work received by workers is not free from pressure and is not commensurate with the wages received. In isolation, workers feel proud to work at Kompas.com even though the salary is not commensurate with the work they carry out and their personal lives are taken away. Appropriation, content that has high views and traffic generated by digital workers will be sold by the company, but the profits obtained are only for the company.

Abstract

Over the past decade, news consumption has increasingly shifted from websites to social media, leading to a significant decline in advertising revenues for online news outlets. This shift presents a serious challenge for small-scale local media in Indonesia, which typically operate with limited financial and human resources. This study explores how Beritabali.com, a local news outlet, responds to these challenges by addressing three central questions: why it produces content for social media, how it adapts to the social media ecosystem, and what implications arise from this transformation. Drawing on the theory of deep mediatization and employing a qualitative methodology through in-depth interviews, the study finds that although Beritabali.com maintains its core news content on its website, it also produces tailored content for social media. This strategy is intended to attract advertisers as a source of revenue and to reach audiences who increasingly access news through social media platforms. To implement this strategy, Beritabali.comaligns with the logic of social media while continuing to uphold journalistic values. Given its financial and human resource limitations—both in terms of quantity and quality—the outlet engages interns with digital content production skills and adopts artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support content creation. The findings highlight the adaptive strategies employed by local media in a social media-driven environment and demonstrate how deep mediatization demands both technological innovation and shifts in newsroom culture.

Abstract

The use of social media in mainstream media has become commonplace in the digital age. This raises issues of copyright, quality, and exploitation of digital labour, such as low wages and high workloads. This research aims to reveal the practices of the digital labour in managing Suara.com's social media accounts based on Fuchs' digital labour theory. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with digital labour managing Suara.com's social media accounts, non-participant observation, and analysis of internal documents and related publications. Through the study of the results associated with Christian Fuchs' digital labour theory, the results show that the digital labours are exploited in terms of workload, the absence of boundaries between personal life and work, and equal recognition of work results. This practice reflects the aspects of the digital labour exploitation, namely coercion, alienation, and appropriation.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract - This study aims to analyze how the reception of the government's role is formed through the #SaveRajaAmpat campaign by Greenpeace Indonesia media, especially from the perspective of environmental enthusiasts. The campaign highlights the impact of environmental damage caused by nickel mining activities in the Raja Ampat conservation area, Papua. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews with environmental enthusiasts who actively follow Greenpeace Indonesia's campaign content on various social media platforms, as well as observations of the campaign content. Stuart Hall's reception theory was used to analyze the process of media message interpretation by the audience. The results show that the informants are in a hegemonic position, namely fully accepting the narrative constructed by Greenpeace Indonesia regarding environmental damage and government responsibility. The informants view the government as the main actor in granting mining permits in conservation areas and assess the revocation of permits carried out only as a response to digital public pressure, not as a form of commitment to protecting the environment. The narrative conveyed by Greenpeace is considered credible, based on open research data delivered with critical emotional audio and visuals, and without commercial interests. These findings show that the media plays a major role in shaping public opinion, ecological awareness and show how audiences actively and critically interpret media messages even when they support the dominant narrative.
