Abstract

Abstract

In 2022, Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists experienced violence while covering. The perpetrator was a member of the security unit when he wanted to ask for clarity regarding certificates in the 2017 Complete Systematic Land Registration Acceleration Program (PTSL) at the National Land Agency (BPN) of Bandar Lampung City. The BPN security guard confiscated work tools and forced journalists to delete coverage such as photos or videos, until finally forcibly expelling journalists by pushing and closing the BPN building gate. This research aims to find out why such violence can occur and how the role of press organizations resolves cases of violence against Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists. Data were obtained from interviews, observations, and document searches. The results of the study showed that violence against Lampung Post and Lampung TV journalists occurred due to a lack of understanding of the perpetrators of violence about the duties of journalists, weak law enforcement, and a lack of support from press companies to protect and provide understanding to their journalists in conducting coverage. Press organizations in Lampung have played their role in overseeing the resolution of cases of journalist violence through the Coalition of Press Freedom Defenders (KPKP) with a series of efforts, including providing statements of attitudes and legal opinions, encouraging the authorities to investigate cases, strengthening the authorities, and holding campaigns and public discussions. Unfortunately, the role of press organizations is still not optimal because not all press organizations are involved, press companies are ignorant, and victims take peaceful initiatives. Peace desision has no deterrent effect on perpretators. In 2022, journalists from Lampung Post and Lampung TV experienced violence while reporting. Abstract

This research investigates the phenomenon of language competition between Megelen (a dialect of Javanese spoken in Banyumas) and Jemberan (a dialect of Javanese spoken in Jember) within the context of communication among multi-ethnic communities in the village of Jatimulyo. The aim is to understand the dominance of Jemberan Javanese and the reasons behind its usage in communication among the Banyumas community. A qualitative approach is adopted, employing Bourdieu's framework of social practice logic (agent-habitus-mode-field), with observations conducted in family settings, neighborhoods, and public spaces. Data is gathered through triangulation of sources including observations, interviews, and document reviews. Data analysis follows Miles and Huberman's qualitative analysis method (reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification). The findings indicate that Jemberan Javanese dominates as a communication tool due to its symbolic power, although Banyumas Javanese dialects are maintained as distinctions within family and neighborhood contexts. These findings support the view that Bourdieu's framework of social practice logic is dynamic and relevant for analyzing cultural phenomena such as shifts in language use.

Abstract

The political economy in the TV industry forces a TV company to take various steps to sustain its business. This also happens in TVOne, particularly in the production of talk show X, where the commodification of content, viewers, and workers occurs. This study aims to explore the economic and political practices within the production process of talk show X, from the commodification of content, audience, and workers, particularly related to the murder of Brigadier Yosua Hutabarat. This is qualitative research that is conducted using a critical paradigm. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document studies linked to Vincent Mosco’s theory. This research is limited to the economic and political practices within the production of talk show X, focusing on the murder of Brigadier Yosua Hutabarat which involved senior police officials, Inspector General Police Ferdy Sambo. Abstract

In the digital era, a number of media, both television and online, use YouTube to distribute their content in order to obtain alternative income. Kompas.com does it. Its digital workforce is geared towards these targets. This research aims to find out the practices of daily digital news workers on YouTube Kompas.com. Fuchs' views on digital workers were used as the basis for the research. The research is qualitative research with data collection in the form of in-depth interviews, observations and documentation studies. Interviews were conducted with managing editors, lead video producers, producers, video journalists, and content creators. The results of this research show that digital worker practices include coercion, alienation and appropriation. In the realm of coercion, it can be seen that the work received by workers is not free from pressure and is not commensurate with the wages received. In isolation, workers feel proud to work at Kompas.com even though the salary is not commensurate with the work they carry out and their personal lives are taken away. Appropriation, content that has high views and traffic generated by digital workers will be sold by the company, but the profits obtained are only for the company.
