Abstract

A vulnerable population, people with disabilities frequently face discrimination in the workplace. They frequently struggle to find employment in the formal sector because there aren't enough workplace amenities to support them and there aren't enough positions that match their skills. Because there aren't many jobs available in Indonesia for those with disabilities, starting a business is an excellent career option. This community service program aims to provide training and assistance for people with disabilities, especially people with Down syndrome and their caregiver who are members of the Down Syndrome Indonesia (DSI) community. This activity was conducted in three stages, including webinars, psychological testing to identify participants' strengths, workshops, and entrepreneurship mentoring. The results of this program were increased knowledge and skills of people with Down syndrome and their caregivers regarding interests and talents and the process of starting and developing a business. Thus, it is hoped that businesses built by people with Down syndrome and their caregivers can last a long time so that they can achieve economic independence.

The study expands the understanding of the initial challenges-adaptive mechanisms-results (CARE) model by including entrepreneurs with different disabilities who deal with various challenges and adaptive mechanisms to attain social, personal, and business-related goals. We conducted semi-structured interviews to explore the lived experiences of nine entrepreneurs with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities. We find support from their circle, education, and technological advancements to have been the most effective adaptive mechanism strategies leading their entrepreneurial activities to success. The expanded CARE model contributes to the literature on entrepreneurship for persons with disabilities and provides insights potentially for all stakeholders supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem for persons with disabilities. Keywords: Challenges, adaptive mechanism, disability, disabled entrepreneurs, entrepreneurshipAbstrak. Abstract

This quasi-qualitative study explored the concerns, barriers, and impacts of implementing Inclusive Education (IE) in elementary schools in Sumatra and Java, Indonesia. Despite the Indonesian government's mandate to implement IE through Ministry of Education Act No. 70 of 2009, various challenges hinder its effective implementation. A survey and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 elementary school teachers to gain insight into their experiences and perceptions of IE. The findings suggest that teachers often lack confidence in employing inclusive strategies because of limited knowledge and large class sizes, highlighting the need for ongoing professional development. Additionally, while there is evidence of positive attitudes towards special educational needs (SEN) students among peers and parents, teachers may not fully embrace IE. This study aims to provide a thorough assessment of IE strategies employed in Indonesian elementary schools by analyzing key factors and offering recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of IE for both students and teachers. These findings will inform policymakers, educators, and stakeholders about the current state of IE and the necessary steps to improve it, ultimately contributing to the development of a more inclusive and equitable education system in Indonesia.

Abstract

Inclusive education has emerged as one of the most successful approaches to meeting the educational needs of students with special educational needs (SEN). However, the implementation of inclusive education still faces several challenges. This review aims to address these challenges and identify effective strategies for successfully implementing inclusive education. A total of fifteen research articles from ERIC, ProQuest, and Google Scholar published between 2020 and 2024 were included in this review. The review identified two key strategies to tackle these challenges: providing comprehensive teacher training programs and promoting the use of Universal Design Learning (UDL) in schools. These strategies have the potential to improve the quality of learning, student engagement, equal access to learning materials, and support for SEN students.

Abstract

Gamification is the process of adding game-like features and mechanics in non-game contexts, such as learning, training, or marketing, to make them more engaging, enjoyable, and effective. This scoping review aims to investigate the impact of gamification on student motivation and identify the most frequently used and effective elements of gamification in educational contexts. A systematic search was conducted using five databases: Emerald, Scopus, Sage, Garuda, and Google Scholar. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines were followed. The review included 25 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The findings suggest that gamification can positively influence student motivation and engagement. However, the effectiveness of gamification elements varies across different contexts and learners. Points, levels, and leaderboards are among the most commonly used elements, but their impact on intrinsic motivation remains debatable. The review highlights the need for further research to understand the specific factors that contribute to the success or failure of gamification in education. The insights gained from this review can serve as a foundation for developing effective gamification-based educational materials that cater to the diverse needs of learners and foster their motivation to learn.

Recently, there has not been much discussion about caregivers’ mental health. This review aims to capture the caregiver’s mental health of children with learning disabilities during a crisis and understand several factors related to it. A scoping review method was used to review literature published across seven databases between 2020 and 2023. Fifteen articles were included in this study. The result highlights three important issues related to the mental health of caregivers. First, caregivers experienced several mental health problems such as worry, fear, changes in mood and behavior, depression, and anxiety. Second, support is needed to help caregivers cope with daily problems. Third, demographic characteristics contribute to the mental health quality of caregivers. Strengthening supporting programs for caregivers to promote their mental health should be considered.

Abstract

Sex education is crucial for adolescents from an early age, as they are vulnerable to misinformation about sexuality. This study aimed to examine adolescents' perceptions of sex education and provide psychoeducation to prevent risky sexual behavior. The methods used included lectures and discussions, with measurements conducted using a sexual behavior tendency scale through a pre-test, post-test, and a follow-up one month after the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in adolescents' knowledge levels after psychoeducation, with t = -15.282 (p = 0.000) for the pre-test and post-test comparison, and significant stability in the follow-up (t = -9.473, p = 0.000). Psychoeducation helps individuals recognize the importance of sex education without stigma. This program effectively fosters a healthy understanding and a positive attitude toward sexuality. Therefore, broader implementation is necessary, both in schools through the integration of sexual psychoeducation materials and in communities using an environment-based approach.
