Abstract

This classroom action research's goal was to determine whether brainstorming and flashcards could enhance the ninth-grade students’ writing abilities at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati. A group problem-solving method called brainstorming involves the impromptu sharing of original ideas and solutions. A tool that is utilized to support the application of the brainstorming technique is the flashcard. In particular, the IX B class at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2022/2023 was the focus of the discussion. There were 40 subjects in total, with 16 female and 24 male participants. Planning, action, observation, and reflection were the four processes for each of the two cycles that this research was conducted in. The pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and questionnaire data were analyzed quantitatively and quantitatively. The outcome demonstrated that brainstorming and flashcards together can help the ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2022/2023 to improve their writing skills.

Abstract

Reading is important for us especially for students when they want to explore their knowledge. In fact, most students of IX H at SMP N 2 Kuta in the academic year 2022/2023 faced problems in reading comprehension. The total of the subjects were 32 students. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not reading comprehension could be improved through Brainstorming. Therefore, the researcher conducted classroom action research, which was done in two cycles. The researcher administered research instruments, pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire to collect the data. Based on the research, the results of this study were there was an improvement in the subjects’ reading comprehension. The results showed pre-cycle (56.10), post-test I in cycle I (72.99), and post-test II in cycle II (83.35). at the end of the cycle, the researcher administered a questionnaire to support the data. The results of this study were the reading comprehension of ninth-grade students of SMP N 2 Kuta in the academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through Brainstorming.

Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills that EFL students must learn. Because writing is utilized in everyday communication, it plays a significant part in communication. The current study was mostly based on early observations of 25 subjects in Semester 1B of the English Language Education Study Program's IEC class, which revealed that the majority of the subjects’ writing skills remained low. Furthermore, the current study sought to determine whether or whether the writing skills of first-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program's 1B class might be improved by the usage of Storyjumper. To attain the goal, the researcher conducted classroom action research in two cycles. Furthermore, the following study instruments were used to collect the necessary data: pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and post-test 3. The data was then examined by comparing the pre-test and post-test results, which revealed significant improvements in the subjects' mean scores from pre-test to post-test. Based on the findings of the research instruments, it is possible to infer that the use of a Storyjumper can improve the writing skills of students in 1B of IEC Class of the English Language Education Study Program.

Abstract

Smart Society 5.0 mengharuskan literasi digital menjadi keterampilan penting dalam konteks ELT. Tugas guru bahasa Inggris termasuk membantu siswa menjadi melek digital serta memanfaatkan teknologi untuk membantu mereka menggunakannya dengan tepat dan sukses. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan meneliti tantangan yang dihadapi oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengintegrasikan dan menerapkan literasi digital ke dalam ELT. Responden penelitian ini adalah 33 guru bahasa Inggris yang bekerja di SMA Negeri dan Swasta di sekitar Denpasar, Bali. Selain itu, penelitian ini dirancang sebagai penelitian kualitatif dimana data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner online terbuka, wawancara dan focus group discussion. Kemudian data dianalisis secara kualitatif yang terdari dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Ditemukan bahwa beragam tantangan dihadapi oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam menerapkan literasi digital di konteks ELT. Tantangan yang dihadapi tersebut disebabkan oleh faktor-faktor yang muncul dari internal dan eksternal guru bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas X pada materi trigonometri. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada kelas X-3 di SMA Negeri 4 Denpasar tahun pelajaran 2022/2023. Subjek penelitian sebanyak 40 siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari satu siklus (pre-test dan post-test). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi trigonometri dengan pencapaian ketuntasan belajar yang pada awalnya saat pre-test siswa yang memenuhi KKM hanya 15 siswa (37.5%), menjadi 26 siswa (65%) telah memenuhi KKM saat post-test. Selain itu, rata-rata yang awalnya saat pre-test hanya mencapai 56.625 terjadi peningkatan saat post-test menjadi 69 dengan peningkatan sebesar 12.375.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a substantial relationship between vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension. of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022. Vocabulary and learning achievement, particularly reading competence, are crucial factors to consider when learning a foreign language. In the current study, there were two factors. Vocabulary was the independent variable, while reading comprehension was the dependent variable. Furthermore, the study instrument used structured sentence writing and short answer text. The research instruments were created in order to acquire the necessary data. The SPSS 23 version was used to examine the data. The data was analyzed in two steps: perquisite analysis and hypothesis testing. Pearson Product Moment Correlation and the T-test were used to assess hypotheses. The alternate hypothesis, that there was a strong association between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022, was eventually accepted based on the findings of the hypothesis testing.

Abstract

Dalam belajar bahasa tentunya siswa mempelajari keterampilan menulis. Ada beberapa teknik pembelajaran dan media yang bisa diterapkan dalam kegiatan menulis. Khususnya pada pelajaran menulis paragraf deskriptif pada siswa SMP yang sangat ditentukan oleh teknik pembelajaran yang digunakan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui respon dari siswa setelah penerapan teknik peer learning dengan media postcard dalam pelajaran menulis pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII Bilingual SMP (SLUB) Saraswati Denpasar Kelas yang terdiri dari 32 orang subjek penelitian. Dari hasil penelitian ini diketahui bahwa siswa memberikan respon yang sangat baik terhadap penerapan teknik yang digunakan tersebut dalam kegiatan menulis. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan kuesioner sebagai instrumen penelitian yang disebarkan kepada subjek penelitian.

Abstract

The latest assessment paradigm emphasizes that assessment is not only used for assessment but also for the learning process. It encourages teachers at SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud to innovate in the assessment process, such as online assessments. The observation results showed that teachers needed training and mentoring on the online assessments. It underlies the implementation of the community service program carried out by the team of the English Language Education Study Program, FKIP Unmas Denpasar entitled “Training and Mentoring Online Assessment Implementation for SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud Teachers.” After the observation, training and mentoring activities were then carried out on 2 and 15 July 2024. The training activities showed an increase in understanding of the participants regarding the implementation of online assessments, especially Quizizz, Kahoot and Formative. This can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results. The teachers also showed their enthusiasm and activeness. In the mentoring activity, the teachers were also able to implement online assessments well. They were able to use online assessments not only to create variations in assessments but also to make the assessment process more effective and efficient.

Abstract

The Listening for Daily Context course in the English Language Education Study Program, Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar, has never been evaluated even though listening is an important skill in language learning. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the course using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. This research is a qualitative study involving study program managers, lecturers, and students as participants. Data collection was carried out through open interviews and document studies. The results of the study show that this course is well designed, in accordance with clear curriculum goals, combines theory and practice, and is supported by adequate human resources and facilities. The evaluation also showed that this course was proactive in overcoming challenges, integrating feedback from students, and having a positive impact on students' listening comprehension and communication skills. However, there is still a need for improvements in technological updates and the use of more authentic materials. This study concludes that this course is effective in developing students' listening skills and recommends increased use of technology as well as opportunities for listening practice in real contexts to prepare students to communicate academically and professionally. This evaluation provides insight to continue to improve this program so that students are ready to communicate in English academically and professionally.

Abstract

This research utilized self-correction and peer-correction techniques on enhancing the writing skills of first-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program. Preliminary observations indicated that many students in semester 1B struggled with writing accuracy and fluency. The study aimed to determine whether the implementation of self-correction and peer-correction techniques could improve these students' writing skills. Conducted as classroom action research, the study was completed in three cycles, with data collected through a series of assessments: pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and post-test 3. The results revealed a significant improvement in the students' mean scores from the pre-test to the post-tests, demonstrating that both correction techniques contributed positively to their writing development. This research concludes that the integration of self-correction and peer-correction effectively enhances students' writing skills, fostering a more accurate and reflective approach to language use.
