Abstract

This study explored students’ perception toward the implementation of Tri Hita Karana (THK) in descriptive paragraph writing activity in English Language Education Study Program Unmas Denpasar. This qualitative study aims to find out students’ perception of the application of THK in descriptive writing class. This study employed qualitative method involving 30 students of English Language Education Study Program. The data were collected through semi-structure interview. The analysis was focused on related themes with the students’ perceptions of the integration of THK values in descriptive paragraph writing. The result of the research indicated that in general the students see it positively to the integration of THK with descriptive writing activity. They feel that the values of THK improved the quality of their descriptive writing by writing more meaningful content which is culturally more relevant. Students also noted that these values help them express their idea more creatively and deeply connected with the writing topic. This finding showed that integrating the values of local culture like THK in English learning could enhance students’ descriptive writing skill and culture understanding. This approach makes the students learning process more interesting and contextually meaningful for students.

Abstract

The latest assessment paradigm emphasizes that assessment is not only used for assessment but also for the learning process. It encourages teachers at SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud to innovate in the assessment process, such as online assessments. The observation results showed that teachers needed training and mentoring on the online assessments. It underlies the implementation of the community service program carried out by the team of the English Language Education Study Program, FKIP Unmas Denpasar entitled “Training and Mentoring Online Assessment Implementation for SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud Teachers.” After the observation, training and mentoring activities were then carried out on 2 and 15 July 2024. The training activities showed an increase in understanding of the participants regarding the implementation of online assessments, especially Quizizz, Kahoot and Formative. This can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results. The teachers also showed their enthusiasm and activeness. In the mentoring activity, the teachers were also able to implement online assessments well. They were able to use online assessments not only to create variations in assessments but also to make the assessment process more effective and efficient.

Abstract

This research aims to improve speaking skills using a reflective approach so that class X TITL 2 students achieve KKM. The method used in the research is classroom action research carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, reflection and decision stages. The first cycle held 2x meetings, while in the second cycle there were 3x meetings. The subjects in this research were students of class The reflective approach is carried out using reflective sheets, so that students can freely express their thoughts and feelings regarding learning in class. The research results are an indicator of success in this research seen from learning completeness of 75%. Students who achieved a minimum completion criteria score of 70. From the research results in cycle I, students who had achieved the KKM were 58%, with an average score of 6.96 and in cycle II learning outcomes increased by 88.5% with an average score of 10.62, so the increase was 30%. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that student learning outcomes on the concept of student speaking ability can be improved through a reflective approach

Abstract

Students in Indonesian language education programs exhibit limited speaking skills, particularly in fluency, clarity, and depth of information. To bridge this gap, this study aims to create a speaking textbook incorporating Tri Hita Karana. This Research and Development (R&D) used the ADDIE approach. The study subjects included six specialist language education experts, a local cultural expert, and a speaking skills instructor, and it was tested on nine third-semester students. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and pre-/post-tests. The research instruments used questionnaires and test items. Data analysis techniques used qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches. The study results showed that the approved textbook received excellent ratings for reflective scaffolding (M = 4.7) and cultural relevance (M = 4.2). The pilot test showed substantial improvements in speaking performance; 80% of students said that reflective exercises improved self-assessment, and 75% effectively integrated Tri Hita Karana ideas into academic and social discussions. It was concluded that the textbook successfully fostered self-confidence, critical thinking, and culturally informed speaking skills. Furthermore, this study implies that reflective and contextually relevant materials can enhance the theory and practice of speaking education.

Abstract

The transition from online learning to limited face-to-face learning requires innovation in learning to increase students' motivation and learning outcomes. This study aims to develop differentiated mathematics learning to improve student learning outcomes and determine the quality of differentiated mathematics learning. This study is a development study using the ADDIE model. The data analysis technique used in this study is for the analysis stage using diagnostic assessment, while at the implementation stage using product validity data analysis by calculating the average score, data analysis to measure product practicality by calculating the average score and data analysis to measure the effectiveness of learning. The results showed that tailored mathematics instruction significantly improved students' conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills compared to traditional instruction methods. Students who received tailored instruction tended to be more active participants in learning, had higher motivation, and showed significant improvements in final test results. This suggests that a tailored instruction approach can be an effective strategy in accommodating the diversity of student abilities, helping achieve more optimal learning outcomes. The implications of this study provide a basis for education policy to further support teacher training in the application of differentiation in instruction, especially in subjects considered difficult, such as mathematics.

Abstract

Dengan perkembangan teknologi di dunia pendidikan, guru harus memiliki keterampilan yang tidak hanya terbatas pada pedagogi dan konten, tetapi juga menguasai teknologi. Metode TPACK menjadi dasar penting untuk menggabungkan ketiga komponen tersebut secara merata dalam proses pembelajaran. Guru di SMK PGRI 4 Denpasar menyadari pentingnya menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis TPACK untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar di era digital. Berdasarkan observasi yang dilakukan oleh Tim Pelaksana Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) dari Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Unmas Denpasar bahwa guru membutuhkan pemahaman dan keterampilan praktis dalam menerapkan model pembelajaran berbasis TPACK. Selama kegiatan, para peserta menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman mereka tentang ide-ide TPACK dan peningkatan kemampuan mereka dalam merancang pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan teknologi. Hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman, kemampuan dan sikap peserta terhadap pembelajaran berbasis TPACK. Pemahaman awal guru tentang konsep dan penerapan TPACK masih rendah, sebesar 36,5% guru menyatakan Sangat Setuju. Setelah pelatihan, pemahaman mereka tentang semua aspek meningkat tajam sebesar 80% tanpa adanya respons netral atau negatif. Selain itu, para guru sangat antusias, berpartisipasi secara penuh dalam diskusi, dan sangat terlibat dalam setiap sesi pelatihan. Selain itu, mereka berharap bahwa di masa mendatang akan ada pendampingan lanjutan untuk penerapan TPACK dalam berbagai bidang.

Abstract

Penggunaan teknologi dalam pengajaran merupakan suatu hal yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Kemampuan guru dalam menggunakan media variative dalam mengajar menjadi kunci penentu jalannya proses pembelajaran. Selain membantu proses belajar, teknologi juga berperan dalam proses penilaian. Dalam pengabdian Masyarakat ini, guru diberikan pengetahuan dan pelatihan dalam membuat dan menggunakan penilaian berbasis daring. Penerapan penilaian berbasis daring ini diharapkan mampu memberikan alternatif pilihan bagi guru terutama dalam memberikan penilaian. Adapun manfaat dari pelatihan penilaian berbasis daring ini adalah: (1) meningkatkan pertisipasi siswa, (2), memudahkan guru dalam memberikan koreksi dan penilaian, serta (3) Meningkatkan pemahaman dan retensi siswa.

Abstract

Along with the rapid development of technology integrated within English language teaching, English teachers are necessitated to be digitally literate. In the attempt to be digitally literate, they need to acquire technical and pedagogical skills representing their readiness to integrate digital technology efficiently and effectively into the teaching learning process. This study, therefore, aimed at determining the digital literacy readiness level of the English teachers, to discover the differences between male and female English teachers’ digital literacy readiness and to probe the factors that affect the English teachers’ digital literacy readiness. The respondents were 33 English teachers currently working both in public and private high schools in Denpasar, Bali. Then, to address the issue, a mixed-method design was used. A questionnaire, an interview, and a focus group discussion were all conducted. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to examine the collected quantitative data; meanwhile, the qualitative analysis, encompassing data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion, was used to assess the collected qualitative data. It was found that the digital literacy readiness level of the English teachers was adequate. Specifically, based on gender, male and female English teachers were different in their readiness. They also identified 2 major factors affecting their digital literacy readiness.

Abstract

Students’ critical thinking skill is vividly crucial to be developed to enable students to solve various problems in nowadays life. Objectives: This study investigates the brainstorming strategy employed by teachers in the classroom to enhance students’ critical thinking skills. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research approach conducted in a senior high school consisting of 30 teachers and 4 teachers were selected as the research participants. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and classroom observations. The data were analyzed descriptively to establish valid and reliable findings. Findings: This study found that teachers intensively used the brainstorming method in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills by asking various challenging questions to arouse students’ critical skills. Conclusions: the Findings of this study revealed the importance of conducting brainstorming strategies during the learning activities. Abstract

Developing students’ critical thinking skill is highly important nowadays to provide students’ skills in encountering various challenges in their life. Objectives: This study investigates the strategies employed by teachers during the teaching and learning processes to promote students’ critical skills. Methods: This study used a qualitative research approach conducted in a senior high school consisting of 50 teachers and 5 teachers were selected as the participants of this research. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed descriptively. Findings: This study found several strategies employed by the teachers in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills.
