Abstract

Reading comprehension is the ability to process written text, understand its meaning, and to integrate with what the reader already knows. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Numbered Head Together technique in improving reading comprehension, where the application is carried out in two cycles. The subjects of this research were the seventh-grade students at SMPN 5 Mengwi in academic year 2023/2024. The class consisted of 33 students who were deficient in reading, especially in reading comprehension. The data were then analyzed by comparing the results of the pre-test and post-tests which showed there were significant improvements of the subjects' mean score from the pre-test to post-tests. As the supporting data, the questionnaire was also administered at the end of the last cycle and the results showed positive responses on the implementation of Numbered Head Together. Based on the results of the research instruments, it could be concluded that Reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in academic year 2023/2024 could be improved through Numbered Head Together.

Abstract

Along with technological developments in the world of education, teachers are expected to always learn and adapt to technological developments so that the learning process in the classroom is more interesting. Apart from that, the teacher's ability to master and apply competencies in the field of technology, especially in the field of education, can help teachers develop learning materials and media so that they are always relevant to current developments. However, problems were found faced by teachers at the SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud where their competence regarding the use of technology and teaching techniques was still not optimised. For this reason, the community service team provided the solutions that can be implemented by the community service team to solve the problems faced by partners. There is a solution that has been agreed upon, namely conducting socialization, training, and assistance in implementing the Flipped Classroom for the teachers as community service participants. The results of this community service activity show an increase in the teacher’s knowledge and understanding of implementing Flipped Classroom. Moreover, they gave a positive response to the activities provided by the community service team.

Abstract

Developing personalized instructional content is critical for satisfying the different needs of students, particularly in the context of education. This study aimed to identify the perspectives of in-service teachers in utilizing Artificial intelligence (AI) in education. It also focuses on Generation Z characteristics. The study uses a mixed-methods approach. There are 20 in-service teachers who participated in surveys and interviews. Regarding the use of AI in the educational setting, the findings revealed that in-service teachers have several significant opinions. The use of AI in education has both benefits and challenges. The employment of AI is causing in-service teachers to become more aware. AI has the ability to provide educational resources and enhance teaching methods. However, there are still barriers like a lack of technological know-how and issues with equity. Consequently, maximizing AI's potential in classroom practice requires ongoing teacher training programs, the development of ethical standards and best practices, equitable access to AI resources, and long-term studies on the effects of AI on learning outcomes.

Abstract

The development of tailored educational content is essential for meeting the diverse needs of students, particularly in the context of English language education. This study aimed to identify the specific reading requirements of first-year undergraduate students majoring in English language education, focusing on Generation Z, characterized by their digital nativeness and unique learning preferences. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research involved 56 Gen Z students at Mahasaraswati Denpasar University who participated in surveys and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed a significant preference for intensive reading activities driven by challenges with unfamiliar vocabulary. Additionally, students emphasized the need to improve both vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension skills. The study also identified critical procedural, setting, and role-related needs influencing the learning process. These results underscore the importance of integrating Gen Z students' target and learning needs into the design of reading courses. Consequently, English teachers are encouraged to adapt their instructional strategies based on a comprehensive needs analysis to support their students' learning objectives effectively.

Abstract

The application of multimedia in translation education enhances learning and knowledge representation. In this research, the application of animated video, infographic, and gamified translation application is applied to enhance students' performance and engagement in translation study. Using qualitative ethnographic strategies, including classroom observation and interviews, the study explores how multimedia technologies support translation learning. Results show that animated videos successfully visualize complicated translation techniques, text analysis, and cultural adaptation so that abstract theories become more clear. Infographics offer step-by-step, systematically organized descriptions of translation processes for reinforcement of learners' understanding. Gamified programmed like Duolingo and FluentU encourage active translation practice on the part of learners, while motivating them with fun activities and games. While these benefits are present, the study quotes challenges such as cognitive overload and surface learning danger in the event multimedia tools are not accompanied by structured instruction. The results emphasize the need for a balanced pedagogical approach, combining multimedia with conventional text-based instruction and discussion-based methods to maximize engagement and critical thinking. This research contributes to the discussion of multimedia in translation education, highlighting its pedagogical potential and limitations. Subsequent studies should explore the long-term impact of multimedia on translation ability and its adaptability in different learning settings

Abstract

Abstract

In recent years, the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought significant implications for English Language Teaching (ELT). This study explores school principals and English teachers’ perspectives on the integration of AI in ELT within the context of existing policy. It aims to examine how teachers perceive current ELT policies in the AI era, the challenges they face in implementing AI-based tools, and the opportunities to bridge the gap between policy and classroom practice. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, survey and structured interview were conducted with multiple informants across different educational levels, involving respondents with diverse professional backgrounds: English teachers, vice headmasters for academic and curriculum affairs, and headmasters. The survey results indicate that respondents strongly understand current English language learning policies and agree on the urgency of integrating AI developments, digital literacy, and academic literacy into policy and planning. However, while most believe AI-based policies can have a positive impact, they note that current policies are not yet fully supportive of AI integration. Thematic analysis revealed three key findings: (1) the absence of clear and comprehensive ELT policy frameworks addressing AI integration, (2) teachers’ proactive adaptation through self-initiated practices and resource exploration, and (3) persistent challenges related to digital literacy, infrastructure, and ethical considerations. These results indicate that while respondents demonstrate strong agency in navigating AI-based innovations, sustainable integration requires well-defined policies and needs-based professional development.
