Abstract

Mathematical literacy is crucial to understand phenomena and good decision-making in real life. This study aims to describe aspects of Islamic nuanced mathematical literacy in prospective teachers, which were viewed from the four personalities of Keirsey. This qualitative descriptive research used a questionnaire of MTBI personality types and a mathematical literacy test with Islamic nuances. The subjects are students in the 7th semester of the mathematics education program at an Islamic university in Kediri City, East Java, Indonesia. The findings showed that rational and idealist subjects could fulfill the "formulating" indicator, but not the guardian and artisan subjects. They were not able to translate problems into mathematical form. The indicators of "employing" and "interpreting" show that subjects with rational personality types can determine better strategies than artisan, guardian, and idealist personality types. That is, it is necessary to integrate the interconnections between the mathematics learning programs related to Islamic elements. A more in-depth portrait of mathematical literacy is needed in different situations from prospective mathematics teachers at Islamic universities.

Abstract

Student scores in real analysis courses are still not optimal with some students still having grades in the lower category. Efforts that can be made is to ensure that the exam questions are appropriate to be used to measure student abilities. Calibration of exam questions is carried out to ensure that the questions used are accurate in predicting participants' abilities. The Polychotomous Rasch Model is the development of the Rasch model which is used for polychotomous cases. Partial Credit Model (PCM) is part of the Polychotomous Rasch Model which is used to analyze polychotomous questions where each question has a different category. This study aims to examine the feasibility of midterm and final semester exam questions for real analysis courses in the form of essay questions using the PCM method in the Mathematics Tadris study program at IAIN Kediri. Research uses the type of research and development. The instrument used is a matter of real analysis ability which is essay in nature and consists of 10 questions. Data collection is done by using total sampling technique. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis showed that the average UTS and UAS scores were 64.53 and 56.42, respectively. The results of the analysis using PCM concluded that the UTS and UAS questions fulfilled validity because they had infit and outfit values in the specified range. The results of the analysis through the wright map provide wrightmap information. Information is obtained for the easiest midterm exam question which is question number 6 and the most difficult is question number 5. In the wrightmap image for UAS questions, the easiest question is question number 1 and the most difficult is question number 5.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the metacognitive abilities of students in solving opportunity problems with nuanced investigations based on the mathematical abilities of grade 12 students in one of the high schools in Kediri Regency, East Java, Indonesia. This research uses a descriptive type, with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in the form of giving tests with the think-aloud method and semi-structured interviews. The research instrument consisted of a problem test with investigative-based and interview guidelines. The research participants consisted of three grade 12 students each with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. The results of this study indicate that at the stage of understanding the problem, metacognitive activity appears in the form of awareness and evaluation. However, the low participant was not able awareness in a good way and the medium participant was not doing a careful evaluation of the results. In the planning stage, the high and medium participants currently use regulation activities by thinking about the right strategy. Evaluation activities, such as believing in the effectiveness of the strategy and assessing the results appropriately. In the stage of implementing the plan, the high and medium participants are using regulation activities by monitoring the planned solutions properly. Evaluation activities are carried out with an appropriate assessment of each result. However, the opposite appeared for low participant in both previous stages. In the stage of looking back, evaluation activity appears in the form of assessing the suitability of answers to the context of the problem with investigative nuances, but no metacognitive activity was found in low participant.
