Abstract

This research aims at improving students’ writing performance on narrative text by using digital application namely edmodo. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The actions were implemented in a cycle. The researcher collaborates with the English teacher as the collaborator in conducting the research. The participants of the research were 20 students of grade tenth Administrasi Perkantoran 1 of SMK Nurul Falah Pekanbaru. The data were taken by using test, observation checklist, field note, and interview. After analyzing the data, it is found that the use of edmodo in writing narrative text activity was able to improve the students’ writing performance. In the other hand, the students were able to generate idea, identify and use various vocabularies, use the appropriate language use and mechanics. The data shows that the students’ score was 80.85. It was improved significantly from the students’ previous daily score, 69. There were several factors that influence the improvement. They are the media, learning activity, and teacher’s ability toward the application usage. Digital application edmodo is an interesting media that can catch the students’ attention so that the students were focus on the use of the media. Learning activity by using edmodo can improve the students’ enthusiasm. They enjoyed learning to write through edmodo with no worry of being mistake. The teachers’ capability of using edmodo motivated and help students to be creative in writing.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary research, it was found that Junior High School Students of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill regarding to recount text was very poor. So, the researcher decided to conduct a Classroom Action Research by using Video Subscribe to improve their speaking skill. It can be stated that the research aims at improving the students of Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill by using Video Subscribe. The respondents of the research were twenty students of grade VIII.1, Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru. This research was done in a cycle with four meetings and a test. For collecting the data, a test, an observation checklist, field notes, and an interview were distributed. After analyzing the data in cycle I, it was found that the students' speaking ability was improved. It was proved by the students’ speaking criteria score; accent was about 60; grammar was about 74; vocabulary was about 79; fluency was about 72; and comprehension was about 78. So, the average score of students’ speaking ability was 72.4. This students’ speaking improvement was influenced by a factor namely interest. In the other hands, this video subscribe was very interesting media so it could foster the students’ participation and confidence during the process of learning activity especially in speaking regarding to recount text. No more students were inactive. They tended to be focus and active in doing communication such as addressing questions and giving comments.

Abstract

This research aimed at describing the difficulties in online learning faced by the students during the first semester of Academic Year 2020/2021. The method of the research was descriptive quantitative by using online questionnaire with four indicators of learning obstacles for collecting the data. The sample of the research was 35 students of English Education Department of Faculty of Education and Teachers’ Training of Universitas Lancang Kuning. After analyzing the data by using descriptive statistics, it is found that the major difficulty is about the students’ physical constraints indicator. The score was about M=3.11 with “moderate” level. Then, non-social environment indicator was about M=2.57 with “moderate” level. The next difficulty was facility. The mean score was about 2.8 with “moderate” level. The next difficulty was from the educator. The mean score was about 2.13 with “moderate” level. The last difficulty was the students’ psychological constraints. The mean score was about 2.07 with “moderate” level. In conclusion, online learning is better implemented in well preparation. It needs all the elements’ readiness such as students, educators, institution, and also the government. It must include the mental and physical readiness. For organizing the online learning, both students and educator should be supported by facility such as qualified laptop or gadget and also fast internet connection. Besides that, lecturer should have qualified competence in organizing the online class so the students motivate in following the class. The last is about the environment. Having well and comfortable environment basically increases the students and lecturer motivation in conducting the online class.

Abstract

Nowadays, ICT has huge potential to facilitate learning now, where online learning is as central media in education. Class activities directly is prohibited by government because spreading pandemic covid 19 in the world. This study aims at finding lecturers’ perceptions in using ICT as teaching and learning. This study used qualitative method. The data collection was done through a survey questionnaires consisting of open ended questions. The result of this research showed that the implementation ICT as learning media is effective. ICT helps teachers to be creative, it helps an easy in preparing the material for teaching. It can be concluded that ICT is very important to support teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Di era globalisasi ini, pendidikan telah mengalami perubahan dan kemajuan yang signifikan. Sehingga guru hendaknya mampu menggunakan bahkan mengembangkan sebuah teknik, strategi, metode, dan media pembelajaran yang dapat memotivasi siswa untuk secara aktif melakukan interaksi dengan berbagai sumber belajar. Melalui pemanfaatan dan pengembangkan teknik, strategi, metode, dan media pembelajaran yang tepat siswa dapat aktif berinteraksi dengan sumber belajarnya dan mampu meningkatkan kualitas mereka sebagai manusia yang terdidik. Dengan demikian, tujuan pendidikan secara global dan khusus dapat dicapai secara maksimal. Mitra PKM ini adalah Sekolah Dasar dan Madrasah Ibtida’iyah sekecamatan Rumbai Kota Pekanbaru Para guru di sekolah mitra ini sangat membutuhkan adanya wadah dan upaya nyata bagi pengembangan kompetensi mereka khususnya dalam hal pemanfaatan dan pengembangan media pembelajaran demi memenuhi kewajiban meningkatkan hasil dari proses pembelajaran. Oleh sebab itu, tim pengusul kegiatan PKM menawarkan solusi berupa pelatihan dan pengembangan media animasi. Di mana program ini diharapkan mampu menjadi wadah dan inspirasi bagi para guru di sekolah mitra untuk membuat media animasi yang mampu memotivasi para peserta didik. Kegiatan ini telah tuntas dilaksananakan dalam waktu 6 bulan. Dengan demikian, tim pengusul merumuskan kegiatan PKM ini menjadi Pelatihan dan pengembangan media animasi bagi Guru Sekolah Dasar dan Madrasah Ibtida’iyah Sekecamatan Rumbai Kota Pekanbaru

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Tourism Association statutes 2011, tour guideshave several duties, one of them is improving consecutively their professionalism. The indicator which can be indicated from their professionalism is their capability in doing well communication with their colleague or tourist particularly communication in English. Related to the daily activity, wheneverI invite them to make an English tour none of them ready to execute it. It one of the symptoms shows that they have limit capability in English communication. To solve this problem, I and team have trained them in English for tourist guide in several meetings. As a result, this English tourist guide training can develop their capability in making English communicationas long as they want to practice their English with their colleague or by them selves

Abstract

Teknologi memiliki peranan yang begitu penting dalam proses pembelajaran di penjuru dunia saat ini. Perkuliahan daring menjadi sebuah tren metode pembelajaran yang memanfaatkan penggunaan teknologi dalam pengaplikasiannya. Mau tidak mau baik pendidik ataupun peserta didik harus siap dengan adanya kebijakan ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi persepsi mahasiswa dan hambatan yang dihadapi selama proses perkuliahan daring di masa pandemic Covid-19 di Universitas Lancang Kuning tahun akademik 2020/2021 dengan menggunakan Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan desain survey menggunakan 1 set kuesioner online yang dibagikan pada 100 responden. Hasil analisis data dengan menggunakan deskriptif statistic didapat temuan bahwa teknologi memberikan kesempatan yang seluas-luasnya pada mahasiswa untuk dapat mengakses sumber belajar yang variatif dan terbaru. Namun, di samping kemudahan tersebut terdapat hambatan yang ditemui mahasiswa dalam proses perkuliahan daring yakni adanya gangguan jaringan yang sering dialami. Disamping itu, gangguan fisik dan psikis juga menjadi hambatan tersendiri apabila perkuliahan daring dilaksanakan dalam jangka waktu yang Panjang. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknologi sejatinya memberikan banyak manfaat bagi peserta didik untuk dapat memperkaya sumber belajar namun penggunaan teknologi sebaiknya tidak dilakukan secara terus menerus dan monoton karena dapat memberikan dampak yang buruk bagi fisik dan psikis peserta didik.

Abstract

Abstract: Language is not only used for daily conversation, but also is used in education, research, and science both written and spoken. There are four basic skills in learning English should be mastered by students such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. To support all of four skills students should master speaking. One of the ways in improving speaking skill is through the Color Vowel Chart use. The aims of this study are divided into two; first, exploring information about the Color Vowel Chart, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking, second, investigating information in terms of students’ speaking achievement. This research is a qualitative study that uses theses, articles/journals and other literature as the main data sources where research that produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data contained in the text under study. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The findings show that the students can increase their speaking skill by using the Color Vowel Chart. This happens because the success of using Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking in is determined by some factors such as the media, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking. It proves by the results of the previous researchers’ studies. The previous researchers also used the Color Vowel Chart, techniques/strategies, ways/procedures, and the assessment. Abstract

The world of education currently requires students to study from home through online learning because of the covid 19 pandemic. Online learning has been going on for almost 2 years so learning is no longer face-to-face. Students faced some problems when they should learn interpretive Listening courses through online learning. One of the problems such as; Students got some difficulties understanding the material. This is the concern of researchers to analyze students’ learning outcomes in an interpretive listening course during online learning. This research approach uses descriptive quantitative utilizing descriptive statistics. There were 55 students who participated in this research. The data was gathered by an online test. The test is available at https://www.examenglish.com. The result suggests students had an average of score 69.4 of the total sample, namely 55 students. Then there is a minimum or lowest score of 30 and the highest is 77. This score has conversion based on score of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Therefore, it indicated that student learning outcomes in interpretive listening courses can be categorized as advanced. Where they have an advanced level in understanding and comprehending of listening activities.  Even with limited facilities and sometimes unsupported internet networks, the learning outcome was running well.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis program aims at improving Elementary teachers’ skill in Rumbai Pekanbaru in developing multimedia as an interesting and motivated teaching media in the classroom in order to create a pleasant learning atmosphere to improve the students’ learning outcome. This program has been handling from March to October 2018 with some phases. This program has some phase there are observation, socialization, training, monitoring, and evaluation. The outcomes targeted were teacher’s skill improvement, scientific paper, learning media, and mass media publication. Training phase was conducted on 24 to 26 of May, 2018 in Language Center of University of Lancang Kuning. There were 9 participants who followed this training and they have been developing draft of multimedia as a learning media and it will be completed in few months later with help and guidance from the team of this program through monitoring phase. In the end of the training, participants said that this program was really useful and motivate them to improve their skill in developing and using multimedia as a learning media in the classroom.  Keywords: Multimedia, learning media, Elementary School teachers ABSTRAKProgram ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru – guru Sekolah Dasar di Kecamatan Rumbai Kota Pekanbaru Provinsi Riau dalam mengembangkan sebuah media pembelajaran berbasis multimedia yang menarik dan memotivasi untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam delapan bulan terhitung mulai bulan Maret hingga bulan Oktober tahun 2018 dengan beberapa tahapan. Program ini memiliki beberapa tahapan yaitu Observasi, Sosialisasi, Pelatihan, Monitoring, dan Evaluasi. Adapun luaran yang menjadi target capaian dari kegiatan ini adalah adanya peningkatan keterampilan guru, karya ilmiah yang dipublikasikan, media pembelajaran, dan publikasi pada media massa. Tahapan pelatihan dan pendampingan pembuatan media telah dilaksanakan pada 24 – 26 Mei 2018 bertempat di Balai Bahasa  Universitas Lancang Kuning. Terdapat 9 peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan ini dan mereka telah mengembangkan draf media pembelajaran berbasis multimedia dan media tersebut akan selesai dalam beberapa bulan kemudian dengan bantuan dan bimbingan dari tim program ini melalui tahapan monitoring. Di Akhir kegiatan para pelatih dan peserta mengatakan bahwa program ini sangat berguna dan mampu memotivasi mereka untuk meningkatkan kemampuan merekan dalam mengembangkan dan menggunakan multimedia sebagai media pembelajaran di kelas Kata Kunci: Media Pembelajaran, Mulitimedia, Guru Sekolah Dasar
