Abstract

As the definitive regency, Supiori has been separated from Biak Numfor Regency, since 2003. Most of the Supiori Regency area is the Mount Supiori Nature Reserve Area which was stipulated according to the Decree of the Minister of Forestry 525/Kpts/Um/7/82 dated 21 July 1982. In line with the development plan in Supiori, conflicts of interest over the utilisation of forest areas are unavoidable. This has an impact on the condition of existing biodiversity, especially mammalian taxa which are at high risk of being threatened with extinction. Therefore, an assessment of the existence mammalian taxa and their interaction with the potential of forest areas has been carried out using the High Conservation Value - HCV concept approach. Observations were made directly and indirectly on the presence of this mammal species during October 2018. This study succeeded in identifying 16 (sixteen) mammal species belonging to 8 (eight) families that were observed and detected signs of their presence. In accordance with the HCV1 criteria, the forest area in Supiori, both primary forest and secondary forest that has been converted into community plantations, is able to create new habitats for mammal species because there is sufficient food availability there. According to the HCV2 criteria, the observed forest area is still relatively good in supporting the presence of a number of animal species, including groups of mammals. Meanwhile, based on the HCV3 criteria, the karst cave spot in the area is not only a source of water but also a habitat for bats (Emballonura beccarii, Aselliscus tricuspidatus). Considering that most of the area is the area of CA Supiori, the regional development plan for Supiori Regency should provide options for rationalization and changing the status of the area. Therefore, intensive studies need to be carried out to determine which areas in and around the area will be utilized for development activities, and other areas that will be maintained by changing the status of protected areas for the purpose of conserving endemic flora and fauna with high conservation value.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Sigim and Sinaytousi Village communities are indigenous Papuans who live in buffer zones adjacent to Arfak Mountains Nature Reserve (CAPA). People with low of education, especially the economy, encourage community members close to the CAPA area to exploit forests to obtain animal food through poaching. Efforts to solve the problem using participative sociocultural approaches with transfer methods of science and technology, in the form of training and assistance in the production and processing of rabbit as an alternative animal protein. (2) Group partners have been able to implement a good rabbit breeding system through increased management and population capability through natural breeding systems, (3) nugget products rabbit meat has been accepted by the villagers. The activity is expected to be able to socialize the group's partners to the village area around the buffer area of arfak mountain nature reserve.  Keywords: Meat; Nuggets; Protein; Rabbit   ABSTRAK Masyarakat Kampung Sigim dan Sinaytousi merupakan suku asli Papua yang mendiami daerah penyangga yang berbatasan langsung dengan kawasan Cagar Alam Pegunungan Arfak (CAPA). Masyarakat dengan tingkat pendidikan yang rendah terutama ekonomi sehingga mendorong anggota masyarakat yang berdekatan dengan areal CAPA untuk mengeksploitasi hutan untuk mendapatkan pangan hewani melalui perburuan liar. Upaya pemecahan masalah tersebut menggunakan pendekatan sosiokultural partisipatif dengan metode transfer ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi, berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam produksi dan pengolahan hasil ternak kelinci sebagai alternatif protein hewani. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan tersebut diantaranya adalah (1) Mitra kelompok telah mampu memproduksi nugget daging kelinci secara mandiri (2) Mitra kelompok telah mampu menerapkan sistim beternak kelinci yang baik melaui peningkatan kemampuan manajemen dan populasi melalui sistim perkawinan alami, (3) Produk nugget daging kelinci telah diterima oleh masyarakat kampung. Kegiatan diharapkan mampu disosialisasikan mitra kelompok ke daerah kampung sekitar kawasan penyangga cagar alam pegunungan arfak. Kata kunci: Daging; Kelinci; Nugget; Protein

Abstract

Komoditas unggulan di Teluk Arguni Kaimana memiliki nilai tinggi dan dikelola secara langsung oleh masyarakat setempat. Survey potensi komoditas unggulan pesisir masyarakat dan rencana pengembangannya sesuai dengan program pemerintah daerah kabupaten Kaimana.Potensi pesisir di Arguni sangat beragam antara lain ikan ganadi, kepiting, ikan Sembilan, udang, ikan kakap putih dan merah. Selain ikan, udang, kepiting, dan kerang-kerangan yang dimanfaatkan dagingnya dalam bentuk segar ataupun ikan asin, dari komoditas perikanan juga dipasarkan gelembung atau pelampung dari ikan gulama yang sudah dikeringkan dalam berbagai ukuran. Sektor perikanan laut ini berkontribusi signifikan terhadap tingkat pendapatan masyarakat nelayan di Teluk Arguni. Pengetahuan tentang komoditas yang dimanfaatkan cukup baik, karena aktivitas melaut ini merupakan aktivitas turun temurun yang dipraktekan oleh masayarakat setempat.  Potensi  komoditas pesisir mampu untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi rumah tangga sehari-hari.  Pengembangan ke dalam skala yang lebih luas memerlukan aktivitas produksi secara intens sehingga mampu meningkatkan produksi secara optimal untuk mencapai pendapatan tunai yang lebih besar.

Abstract

Peternakan lebah madu di Distrik Walelaga khususnya di kampung Kuluakma sudah berkembang cukup lama, namun jenis pakan dan ketersediaannya belum diketahui dengan baik. Metode deskriptif melalui wawancara dan pengamatan langsung untuk melihat keadaan usaha peternakan dilakukan dalam penelitian ini. Semua peternak di Kampung Kuluakma disensus dan diwawancarai. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara tabulasi, kemudian dibandingkan dengan standar-standar umum usaha peternakan lebah madu berdasarkan pustaka yang ada. Analisis situasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kontekstual untuk menjelaskan temuan di lapangan sehingga memperoleh gambaran yang lengkap tentang kondisi dan keadaan di sekitar lokasi penelitian. Sebanyak 43 (empat puluh tiga) jenis tanaman pakan lebah di Kuluakma, Wamena tersebar di sekitar areal peternakan, perkebunan masyarakat bahkan sampai sekitar 2 (dua) kilometer dari lokasi peternakan. Penyebaran tanaman pakan ini sangat membantu ketersediaan pakan lebah setiap saat, tetapi juga memelihara ekosistem tanaman berguna baik bagi lebah dan masyarakat secara berkelanjutan. Perlu pengamatan dampak penyebaran tanaman pakan terhadap keberlanjutan koloni lebah yang ada. Penelitian yang kami lakukan selama bulan kering, sehingga diperlukan kajian yang sama selama musim penghujan. Tanaman yang tergolong kelompok tanaman buah-buahan dan sayuran juga menjadi sumber pangan masyarakat. Tanaman pakan seperti Paraserianthes falcatria, Gravillea papuana, dan Casuarina equisetifolia adalah jenis pohon khas di Wamena yang juga dimanfaatkan sebagai kayu bakar.

Abstract

Road development is increasing worldwide. Generally, examples of road building in tropical countries demonstrate that road access can assist the fight against rural poverty, but such developments are also linked to deforestation, pollution, invasions of exotic species, and environmental degradation. For Papua and West Papua provinces (Tanah Papua) in Indonesia, the development of the provincial road network is intended to improve the rural economy, aiming to alleviate poverty within isolated rural areas. However, road development can pose particularly challenging problems to rural and Indigenous communities. Poorly planned roads can be devastating when they provide easy access to illegal hunting that threatens endangered species. In this study, we discuss how road development in Tanah Papua has changed indigenous hunting. Native Papuans have benefited from improved road access, which allows them to sell their agricultural products at local markets. Increased road connectivity has also changed how local people use natural resources and forest products, moving from subsistence to a more market-based orientation. Although policies on infrastructure development including roads form part of Indonesia’s national program, they are not automatically compatible with a sustainable development program in Tanah Papua. To foster more equitable and sustainable road development, government agencies must improve their overall coordination of further road expansion plans by promoting green infrastructure that supports the sustainable use of natural resources in a way that is reconciled with traditional knowledge of local people. Such efforts may also have positive effects on the efforts to protect biodiversity within the wider government conservation agendas.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya konservasi yang dapat dilakukan dalam menjaga keseimbangan populasi kasuari di luar habitat alaminya adalah melalui konservasi ex-situ, yakni penangkaran. Aspek manajemen pakan termasuk dalam teknik penangkaran yang memainkan peranan penting dalam menentukan keberhasilan suatu usaha penangkaran. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Unit Pelaksana Teknis Daerah Taman Burung dan Taman Anggrek Biak, Provinsi Papua, antara tanggal 6 Januari – 22 Maret 2022. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan teknik observasi. Pengamatan secara intensif dilakukan terhadap praktek pemberian pakan burung kasuari. Hasil pengamatan dianlisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis bahan pakan kasuari yang diberikan pada TBTA Biak adalah pisang kapok, pisang mas, dan papaya. Waktu pemberian pakan yaitu pukul 08:00-09:00 WIT. Tempat penyimpanan pakan yaitu di dalam gudang menggunakan keranjang untuk mempermudah pengambilan pakan. Dengan pemyimpanan pakan terbuka di dalam ruangan dan tidak menggunakan zat kimia atau freezer. Pemberian pakan dilakukan sekali sehari dengan jumlah konsumsi pakan 1.729,43 gr/ekor/hari bagi kasuari yang dikandangkan dan 4.617 gr/ekor/hari bagi kasuari yang diumbar. Diversifikasi pakan perlu dilakukan dengan menambahkan jenis pakan alami sehingga keseimbangan nutrisi pakan dapat terpenuhi. Jumlah konsumsi pakan sangat dipengaruhi oleh aktivitas kasuari dan ketersediaan ruang untuk beraktivitas.

Abstract

More than 700 species of avifauna found in New Guinea including Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Bird and Orchid Park (TBTA) in Biak, an ex-situ conservation facility of Papuan endemic birds and captive breeding center where Crowned Pigeon birds are raised. A study on care management of Goura victoria (Mambruk) is conducted to support the Master Plan for the development of TBTA as one of the Regional Technical Implementation Units under the Forestry and Environment Papua Province Office. This study indicates that feed given to Mambruk birds approximately 2.21 Kg for five individuals in average, or ± 442 g/individual, fresh, cut in the form of squares/dice, with specific smell characteristic of fresh fruit in brightly colored. Food is given once every day, between 08:00 WIT and 09:00 WIT, following the starting working hour at the TBTA Biak. Drinking water is available ad libitum. The cages used for breeding Mambruk birds in TBTA Biak are permanent cages made of wire iron for roofs and walls. Two types of cages are available, group and individual cages with supporting facilities such as eating and drinking places, rooting sites, places to make nests, trees and tubs for bathing. Eating and drinking places are cleaned before use. The environment around the cage in TBTA is quite clean. The design of the cage is quite safe for birds. Cages are rarely cleaned and no quarantine/isolation cages are available. The facility is not supporting with veterinarians to control the bird’s health, and schedule for regular health care programs.

Abstract

This study investigates the trends in goat population and meat production in Papua and West Papua from 2000 to 2023, analyzing the relationship between population growth, production output, and key management factors. Using secondary data from official sources such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Department of Animal Husbandry, the study employs descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, and both linear and non-linear regression models. The results indicate a significant positive correlation between goat population and meat production, particularly in Papua, where a cubic regression model explained 61.9% of the variability in production. In contrast, West Papua showed a weaker relationship with more fluctuations in production trends. The study underscores the importance of sustainable management practices, including feed quality and health care, to optimize goat production. These findings provide insights into improving goat farming in these regions through targeted interventions and policy alignment with national agricultural strategies.

Abstract

A study was conducted in Yemang, Yongsu Dosoyo –at the northern site of Cyclops moutains, in Depapre District, Jayapura, Papua. Twenty-four traps were randomly set in 4 trap stations per habitat (garden and forest) with 10 m distance between stations. Abstract

ABSTRACT  The development plan of Mosso Village as a tourist destination in the border area of Jayapura city needs to involve the local communities (Community Based-Ecotourism). In addition to the potential of hot water, Mosso Village has other Environmental Service Potentials that may contribute to the development of ecotourism areas. Community service activities were carried out from 4 to 7 September 2023 in Mosso village. Identification of the determining factors for the development of tourism areas was carried out using scoring for each variable according to the determining factors based on the opinions of respondents. We found that, community participation was quite good, and the community voluntarily involved themselves in the activity. Mosso village ecotourism has a diverse natural landscape including lowland tropical rainforests, rivers, mountain peaks and hot springs and waterfalls. This has become a major attraction for tourists seeking an authentic nature exploration experience. Variables identified as inhibiting factors need serious attention to be upgraded to moderate status or even become supporting variables for the development of Mosso village as a tourist destination. Infrastructure is indeed very much needed to support the development of the tourist area in Mosso village. The available minimum requirements, such as accommodation and communication facilities, are good. Non-timber forest product species – NTFPs, which exist and have not been optimally utilized, play an important role in supporting the development of Mosso village as a tourist destination. Economically, the development of Mosso village as a tourist destination is quite promising, because it can create jobs for the local population.  Keywords: Border zones Ecotourism; Mosso Vilage; Sustainable Forest Management;   ABSTRAK  Rencana pengembangan Kampung Mosso sebagai daerah tujuan wisata di wilayah perbatasan kota Jayapura perlu melibatkan masyarakat adat setempat (Communty Based- Ecotourism).  Selain potensi air panas, Kampung Mosso memiliki Potensi Jasa Lingkungan lainnya yang diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan kawasan ekowisata. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat dilaksanakan dari tanggal 4 sampai dengan 7 September  2023 di kampung Mosso. Identifikasi terhadap faktor penentu pengembangan kawasan wisata dilakukan dengan menggunakan skoring terhadap setiap variabel sesuai dengan faktor yang menentukan berdasarkan pendapat para responden. Dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini, peran serta masyarakat cukup baik, dan masyarakat yang secara sukarela melibatkan diri dalam kegiatan pengabdian. Ekowisata kampung Mosso memiliki lanskap alam yang beragam termasuk hutan hujan tropis dataran rendah, sungai, puncak gunung serta sumber air panas dan air terjun. Hal ini menjadi menjadi daya tarik utama bagi wisatawan yang mencari pengalaman menjalajahi alam yang otentik. Variabel yang teridentifikasi sebagai faktor penghambat, perlu mendapat perhatian serius untuk ditingkatkan statusnya menjadi moderat atau bahkan menjadi variabel pendukung pengembangan kampung Mosso sebagai daerah tujuan wisata di wilayah perbatasan. Infrastruktur memang sangat dibutuhkan dalam menunjang pengembangan kawasan wisata di kampung Mosso. Persyaratan minimal yang sudah tersedia misalnya penginapan dan sarana komunikasi merupakan hal yang baik. Spesies hasil hutan bukan kayu – HHBK, yang ada dan belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal memainkan peranan penting menunjang pengembangan kampung Mosso sebagai daerah tujuan wisata wilayah perbatasan. Secara ekonomi, pengembangan kampung Mosso sebagai destinasi wisata di wilayah perbatasan cukup menjanjikan, karena mampu menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan bagi penduduk setempat.  Kata kunci: Ekowisata; Kampung Mosso; Pengelolaan hutan berkelanjutan; Wilayah perbatasan
